How to Connect an iPad to a TV in Two Different Ways
- You can connect an iPad to a TV set with an AV (HDMI or VGA) cable.
You’ll need the appropriate adapter cable from Apple.
- To connect the iPad, just connect the adapter to your iPad, connect the adapter to your television with the appropriate cable, and switch the TV to the correct input.
- You can also connect your iPad to a TV wirelessly if you have an Apple TV. To do that, use the Screen Mirroring feature in the iPad’s Control Center.
- On the TV, your iPad might look somewhat low-res because its display is being upscaled to a much larger display, but your iPad will send video and photos to the TV at the best possible resolution.
- Visit Business Insider’s homepage for more stories.
It’s surprisingly easy to connect an iPad to a television. Once connected, you can project the Home Screen and any app, turning the TV into a giant iPad display.
But you can also use the iPad to deliver high resolution video, effectively turning any TV into a “smart TV. ” You can play Netflix, Hulu, or any streaming service from the iPad, or send video and photos stored on the iPad itself to the screen.
There are two common ways to connect your iPad to a TV: via an AV cable, and using an Apple TV device.
How to connect an iPad to your TV with an AV cable
To connect your iPad directly to a TV, you will need an adapter cable that’s compatible with the input you have on your TV or monitor. In most cases, that will be an HDMI cable, so you should get a Lightning to Digital AV Adapter from Apple (for older displays, Apple also sells a Lightning to VGA Adapter).
1. Connect the adapter to an HDMI (or VGA) cable.
2. Connect the cable to an input on your television.
3. Plug the adapter to the iPad’s Lightning port and turn on the iPad
Apple’s Digital AV Adapter connects your iPad’s Lightning port to an HDMI cable, which you then plug into a TV.
Dave Johnson/Business Insider
4. Use the TV’s control panel or remote control to switch to the input you just attached the cable to.
That’s pretty much it — you should see the iPad’s display duplicated on the TV. The Home Screen and most apps will probably look somewhat low resolution (the iPad’s resolution is being upscaled to the much larger TV screen) but when you play video, the full resolution of the video will be passed to the TV.
You can mirror anything on your iPad on a television or monitor using an AV adapter.
Dave Johnson/Business Insider
If you’ll be using the iPad for a long time, you might want to plug the AV adapter into an AC adapter. This will provide power to the iPad while it’s running. You’ll need an extra AC adapter and Lightning cable for this, since Apple doesn’t include one with the adapter.
How to connect an iPad to your TV with an Apple TV
If you have an Apple TV, the process is actually even easier because there are no cables — it’s all wireless, using your Wi-Fi network.
1. Ensure that the iPad is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple TV.
2. Be sure your TV is on and displaying your Apple TV.
3. Open the iPad’s Control Center by swiping down from the right side of the screen.
4. Tap Screen Mirroring, and then tap Apple TV.
Connect an iPad to a nearby Apple TV using the Screen Mirroring button in the Control Center.
Dave Johnson/Business Insider
You should now see the iPad’s Home screen mirrored on the TV.

How to connect an iPad to a TV – LG MAGAZINE Russia
Apple tablets are popular among users due to their quality and reliability. iPad differs from analogues in good performance, as well as a high-quality interface. However, watching movies and series on the big screen remains a priority option for most viewers. Therefore, the owners of such devices are interested in the answer to the question of how to broadcast content from iPad to TV.
There are 2 main ways to connect an iPad to a TV screen:
- Wired.
- Wireless.
You can use the cable to stream your iPad to your TV using the following technologies:
- HDMI cable.
- USB.
- VGA adapter.
Suitable wireless technology solutions for connecting iPad to TV:
- Wi-Fi network.
- Using Apple TV, AirPlay.
- Google Chromecast.
The easiest wired method is to connect with the HDMI cable that often comes with your TV. In second place is a USB connection, which is suitable for new iPad models. And the VGA connection will not transmit the entire color gamut on the TV and requires a separate audio connection. Let’s analyze all the ways to wire an iPad to an LG TV screen.
Connect iPad via HDMI cable to TV. To connect via the HDMI port, use adapters for an iPad such as Lightning Adapter and a Digital adapter. For 4th generation devices, the first version of the HDMI cable is used, and older iPad models are connected using the second type of HDMI cable.
Connecting an iPad to an LG TV display via an HDMI port is the most popular wired sync method. The user gets the opportunity to duplicate the screen of the tablet without unnecessary settings and installation of special programs.
Synchronization with the TV through the HDMI port takes place in several stages:
- First, connect the HDMI cable to the iPad, after selecting a cable with a suitable connector (8 pin or 30 pin).
- Then connect the HDMI connector to your TV model. It does not matter which manufacturer the device will be, the main thing is the presence of the appropriate connector.
- And select “HDMI output to screen” in the TV settings. The connection is ready.
iPad 9 connection0104 via USB to TV. You can connect an iPad to an LG TV using a USB adapter. This method involves using the gadget as a removable drive that stores photos or videos. The only difference with the USB connection is that you will need to select a different type of cable for each iPad model:
- For iPad 1, 2 and The New iPad, use the 30 bin USB port on the side of the TV connection.
- iPad mini and 4th generation connect with a USB Lightning adapter.
The ends of the USB cable are inserted into the corresponding ports of the gadget, after which you need to confirm the connection on the TV screen. Next, the file manager will start with all the files available for viewing: the choice of the desired one is carried out using the remote control.
iPad screen duplication via VGA TV adapter. The VGA adapter is a vivid example of an analog connection, the peculiarity of which is the independence of data quality from the transmitting device. This is a big minus, because even if you transfer Full HD video from your Apple tablet, you will get a muddy picture without sound. The VGA adapter does not have a sound playback function, and for this you will need to use the AUX connector.
VGA technology will be useful in the absence of other large screen communication options. A special VGA cable will allow you to display the image on your TV. The connection is the same as with the HDMI cable and USB.
Modern technologies are gradually taking away the abundance of cords and cables for a stable connection into the past, more and more advanced wireless data transmission technologies are emerging. Currently, to broadcast iPad through the LG TV screen, you can use one of the technological methods. Next, we will look at each of them in detail.
Connect iPad to TV via Wi -Fi . In order to display only photos or videos on a large Smart TV display, the user can use a wireless Wi-Fi adapter. To connect, you will have to download a special application on your iPad, for example, iMediaShare, which is free to download from the App Store. In this case, the only requirement for the TV is to support DLNA or AllShare technologies (all modern equipment is equipped with such technology).
Devices are prepared for content broadcasting as follows:
- LG TV connects to the Wi-Fi network through a router (gadgets must have one subnet).
- After starting iMediaShare, the user selects the video or photo they want to play, and in the menu of available devices that appears, clicks on their TV.
- The start of synchronization is confirmed by the remote control.
iPad 9 connection0104 to the TV via Apple TV and Airplay . The Apple TV set-top box has become very popular for synchronizing a TV with an iPad. It works on the principle of AirPlay, allowing you to use a wireless connection:
- Display an image.
- Open programs, applications and games.
- Communicate on social networks and send e-mail.
Apple TV has the main advantage of maintaining excellent image quality. And the main disadvantage is the high price compared to other methods of broadcasting data from an iPad to a TV. The set-top box allows you to work with your iPad at any time through the big TV screen, as well as synchronize other devices with your TV. At the same time, the high quality of the connection is maintained.
To watch TV using the Apple TV, do the following:
- Connect your set-top box, tablet, and TV to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Connect your Apple TV to your TV using an HDMI connection.
- Activate the AirPlay function on your iPad.
- In the AirPlay settings panel, find your TV model and select it.
- Specify the HDMI port as the source of the TV.
- Turn on screen rotation on your iPad.
It should be noted that AirPlay technology is supported only by the Apple TV set-top box and a few Smart TV models that have passed the certification procedure. LG TVs support this technology.
Connecting iPad to TV with Google Device Chromecast . Google ChromeCast is a miniature device that plugs into a TV’s HDMI port to wirelessly stream online content from an iPad browser.
For a stable connection, you need to follow several important steps:
- Connect Google Chromecast to the HDMI port and restart the TV.
