  If “Tethered Mode” does not work on iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular)

  The Hotspot feature allows you to share your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular) cellular data connection with another device. If you need help using the Personal Hotspot feature, follow these steps.

  Basic steps

  Try to connect to the device in tethering mode again after each step.

  1. Verify that Personal Hotspot Mode is enabled in Settings > Personal Hotspot. If you can’t find or turn on the Personal Hotspot setting, check to see if your carrier supports it and if it’s included in your data plan.
  2. Restart the iPhone or iPad that is in hotspot mode and the other device that you want to connect to the device that is in hotspot mode.

     • macOS Ventura: Click iPhone USB. Click Deactivate, then click Activate.
     • Earlier versions of macOS: Click iPhone USB. Click the More button below the list of services, select Deactivate Service, and then click Apply. Click the More button again, select Activate Service, and then click Apply.

  To avoid additional data charges, turn off Personal Hotspot when you don’t need it. Otherwise, the computer may use Hotspot Mode every time you connect an iOS device to it with this feature enabled.
