Cable for street lighting.

Outdoor lighting

Outdoor or street lighting is an integral part of our
Everyday life. Modern outdoor lighting includes lighting:
roads outside the settlement, the carriageway of the streets and adjacent to them
sidewalks, squares, parks and squares, courtyards and adjacent pedestrian
paths located in the yards of children’s and sports grounds. Outdoor lighting also includes architectural and artistic lighting of building facades.

For
Each type of lighting has its own rules.

For example
for illumination of roads and carriageways
streets, there are several mandatory items:

  1. Inspection of the road (street) . Need to be defined
    type of road surface, take into account all pedestrian crossings, intersections with other
    streets and roads. It is necessary to determine all places on the carriageway of the streets, in
    which may be pedestrians. These places need to provide
    increased level of illumination relative to the rest of the road. When
    if it is planned to turn off some of the lamps at night, then in
    where pedestrians are likely to be, the level of illumination should
    be provided during this period of time;
  2. Category definition
    streets or roads.
    Categories of roads and streets are determined in
    depending on their purpose, transport characteristics, design speed
    traffic and the number of lanes. They are divided into
    highways and streets of citywide, regional and local significance.
  3. Selection of standardized
    illumination
    . Required illumination and brightness
    pavement depending on the road category. Choose such categories in accordance with the requirements of the joint venture
    52.13330.2011. (SP 52.13330.2011 is a Code of Rules. Entered into force on May 20, 2011. This Code of Rules is essentially
    is a reference book for every lighting designer and lighting engineer. The Code of Rules SP 52.13330.2011 is included in the list of regulatory documents
    mandatory application, approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 1521
    from 26.12.2014. Sections 1 are obligatory (paragraphs
    1.1, 1.2), 4 – 6, 7 (clauses 7.1 – 7.35, 7.37, 7.38, 7.40, 7.45 – 7.86, 7.101 –
    7.122) and Appendix K.)
  4. Luminaire layout selection . Placement of outdoor lamps
    lighting along a street or road is performed substantially simultaneously with
    performing lighting calculations. Light fixtures are installed on
    lighting poles specially designed for this purpose, on contact poles
    networks of electrified urban transport, on line supports
    power lines with a voltage of 0.4 kV, as well as suspended on cables (stretch marks).
  5. Calculation of illumination and
    brightness
    . During the design process of the exterior
    lighting, as well as artificial
    lighting of premises, the easiest way to perform all calculations
    computer methods using standard programs.
  6. Connection
    lighting fixtures
    . Lighting
    preferably evenly connected to the three phases of the lighting network. At
    connection, it must be ensured that in the event of a disconnection of one of the phases in
    at night, this phase was not connected to lamps that
    installed in places requiring high levels of illumination.

System mounting
external (street) lighting is fundamentally different from the laying inside
premises. The main difference lies in the materials used and
lighting fixtures. Outdoor cables and equipment are exposed to
temperature effects, as well as precipitation, wind and solar radiation,
therefore, they are subject to completely different requirements. Wiring can be
run not only along the wall, but also through pipes, flexible metal hoses,
trays or skirting boards. It is also possible to lay a cable in a pipe, which
also called corrugation. Of course, corrugated pipes certainly protect against all
types of damage and there is nothing to worry about here, but still worth several times
think before choosing this way.

Therefore, to perform this task, it is necessary to use a cable for
street lighting, which will ensure the safe and durable operation of the entire
systems.

Outdoor cable laying can be done in two ways: underground and
air.

Underground laying or as it is also called – hidden. Assumes the use of cable, in
the structure of which has armor made of galvanized tapes or wires (for example,
brand 9 cable0012 VBBSHv ).
Such a cable can be laid in the ground without additional protective
devices (pipes, trays, etc.). If you use a different type of cable
(for example, cable VVG ), then it must be laid in a protective box or double-walled corrugated pipe.
You also need to know that the trench before installing the cable must be at least
40 centimeters of depth (in case of using a protective box) and a minimum of 80
centimeters when laying without it.

For aerial installation of , it is necessary to use a cable for street lighting, which has a
load-bearing element or conventional power cable and galvanized steel cable, on
which will be further mounted cable.

The cable is mounted as follows: cable or strong rope
stretches from structure to structure and clings to it with the help of
clamp cable. When using cables or wires with load-bearing elements
the installation process is simplified by 2 times.

For air laying most often
cables and wires of brands are used: VVG-KhL (mounting on a cable), SIP-2 , SIP-4 , as well as AVT. In addition, you need to remember: use a cable for street lighting
necessary together with the rope, otherwise it will stretch, which will lead to
cliff.

Which cable to choose for wiring in an apartment, country house

In the previous article, we told you about the characteristics of cables, so now we will analyze in practice how and what cable options should be used when laying electrical wiring in an apartment.

Which wire should I choose to connect sockets?

As practice shows, for an average user of electricity, the maximum power consumption from 1 outlet does not exceed 4. 5-5.9 kilowatts at the peak, usually such a load occurs when heaters are connected to the network. Usually, with normal household use, the power consumption is 2 times lower. Therefore, if you do not plan to connect a large number of heaters at the same time, then it will be enough for you to lay a cable with a cross section of 2.5 mm2 – this is enough for any everyday tasks with a large margin. If a large power consumption is planned, then it is better to calculate the required cross section from the power consumption.

Which wire should I choose to connect the lighting circuit?

We figured out the sockets, but by what criteria should we select the cross-sectional diameter of the electrical conductor in the wire for the lighting circuit? Everything is much simpler here, even if you want the light from your apartment to illuminate half the block, then all your needs will more than block wires with a cross section of 1.5 mm2 – no longer required.

Two core or three core cable?

Recently, the electrical safety rules have changed, according to which it is required to ground all electrical appliances in the apartment, including lighting devices. For this, it is not only necessary to use special sockets with grounding, but also a three-core cable – phase, zero and protective zero.

What is the best cable for internal (hidden) wiring in an apartment building, country house, cottage?

As we said in the last article, we described all the possible characteristics of the cable, but we repeat that all the necessary information about it can be found on the outer insulating layer, namely:

  • number of cores,
  • Flexibility
  • Fire safety, etc.

Cable VVG

At the time of 2019, this is one of the most commonly used cables for wiring and electrical work. VVG is a copper cable with an external PVC insulator. Suitable for rooms with normal and high humidity. May consist of 1 to 5 cores. Designed for a voltage of 660 volts.

Variations of VVG cables

There are several modifications of the VVG cable:

  • VVG – vinyl insulation of conductors and outer sheath
  • VVGng – refers to non-combustible power wires, the insulation of the conductors is made of self-extinguishing material, when ignited, combustion will not spread to the entire cable.
  • VVGng-LS – the main difference from VVGng is low smoke emission, the insulator sheath material is also self-extinguishing.
  • VVGng FR-LS – includes all the advantages of VVGng and VVGng-LS, in addition it has an additional protective layer of mica tape.

If there is an NG marking on the cable, then you can not be afraid and place the cables close to each other, in bundles. For an apartment, preference should be given to cables VVGng or VVGng-LS, and for the lighting circuit.

Cable for electrical wiring in the apartment is recommended to take brands VVGng or VVGng-LS three-core with a cross section of 2.5, and for the lighting circuit, a cross section of 1.5. We recommend that you do not save money and take the cable with the NG prefix, so you can protect yourself from fires to some extent.

Cable NYM

Unlike VVG, NYM is a European cable developed in Germany, which is produced according to all European standards and GOSTs at Russian factories. NYM is similar in its characteristics to VVG-ng, it also has a number of cores from 1 to 5, and has protection against the spread of fire. As mentioned above, it is similar in characteristics to VVG-ng, so NYM 3 × 2.5 cable is suitable for sockets, and NYM 3 × 1.5 for lighting circuit.

Benefits of VVG and NYM

The cables are generally similar, and maybe even identical, so they have the same advantages:

  • Quality insulating materials;
  • High quality copper;
  • Reliability;
  • Ease of installation;
  • Fire resistant;
  • Self-extinguishing;

Which wire should not be used for wiring in an apartment

It is worth immediately clarifying, there is a clear difference between wire and cable, the cable is more durable, has two-layer insulation – separately external, plus each conductor has its own insulating layer. At that time, a wire was understood as a simple construction with not very reliable insulation and a short service life.

Using wire when laying wiring is a frankly bad option, because the main problem with wires is a high degree of flammability due to poor resistance to long-term high loads. This is the main reason why the wires are not suitable for wiring in residential premises (according to the Electrical Installation Code)

PVS wire

Many people choose this wire on the advice of friends or from the Internet, citing a more affordable price – this is not worth doing. Why? Everything is simple! The PVA wire is designed for a voltage of 380 volts, designed to connect consumer electronics to a home network, and, last but not least, is a stranded wire. Also, the PVA wire cannot be laid in bundles – that is, for each line you will have to lay a separate strobe. Based on the high fire hazard and the high cost of installation due to additional gating, the savings become illusory.

SHVVP and PVVP wire

Such wires are equipped with fire and flame protection insulation.
