To answer the question “Which TV is better: LG or Samsung”, you need to know what, when and how you will watch. Consider which brand to choose based on these data. One can definitely say only that the TVs of these brands are definitely not the same thing.

A bit of background.

Both of these companies are from South Korea, one would assume that it is easier for them to develop something together, as many other brands do. In fact, these are the worst competitors and they are moving in a fundamentally different direction. But it is precisely this opposition, at least in the field of televisions, that drives progress forward.

To name a few fun differences:

All connectors for connections in modern TVs for LG are on the left side, for Samsung – on the right. LG uses mainly IPS matrices in LCDs, Samsung – -VA. LG used passive 3d in their TVs, Samsung used active. This is not to mention the design and so on. If it suddenly happens that in the same year a model with a suspiciously identical design comes out, proceedings begin. If you follow the design of technology in general, you will notice that one manufacturer after some time takes certain features from another. Reminds advertising chocolate sticks, only here everything is serious.

Which is better: LG or Samsung TVs in terms of reliability? They are approximately on the same level and, ultimately, everything will depend on what is sold more in a given region (more sales – more breakdown statistics). In general, the equipment is quite reliable by modern standards. And, most importantly, problems with the availability of spare parts rarely come up. But, of course, if the TV matrix is smashed, it’s easier to buy a new TV, because. all spare parts are purchased in dollars and, taking into account the exchange rate, inflation, it often turns out that the matrix costs more than the TV itself.

So which TV is better to choose: LG or Samsung?

If you and your family will watch TV from different points of the room, if the interior does not allow you to watch TV strictly opposite the screen, LG TVs with IPS matrices will be preferable – the colors will not fade away. Due to the fact that the contrast in IPS matrices is low, the picture looks soft, without sharp drops. The LG processor is a match – you won’t see sharp edges, ladders, uplifted clarity, characteristic of some other brands. Also out of the box, IPS TVs show less shadow detail. This can be fixed with settings, but in general, for a bad signal (analog, highly compressed digital), the picture looks neater, with less garbage in the background.

If you watch TV strictly straight or at small angles, the lighting in the room is very bright or, on the contrary, you watch in the dark, you prefer a sharper, more voluminous picture – Samsung looks more interesting. Due to matrices with high contrast and relatively deep blacks, even conventional digital TV looks somewhat clearer. If in bright scenes both manufacturers give a generally similar image, in dark scenes Samsung will have a more contrasting and voluminous picture.

A separate line of TVs is LG’s OLED technology, which combines all the best from plasma and LCD.

Thanks to perhaps the most effective anti-glare filter to date and a decent margin of brightness, these TVs are suitable for a bright room. At the same time, this technology allows you to completely turn off any of the pixels on the screen, making viewing in the dark with nothing comparable before.

The viewing angles are as wide as possible, the pixel response tends to zero, the TVs practically do not heat up and do not emit excessive noise. The picture, depending on the settings, can be both natural, soft, and sharp, bright, with rich colors.

For some, this technology is the future, others have been with it for a couple of years already. Mass sales of these TVs began in 2013 and every year the technology is only improving. One of the major pluses is that all TVs in the lineup have the same image quality, albeit with different settings out of the box, and it remains only to choose the design and other minor things. Whereas LCD only the most expensive FALD backlit TVs make the most out of LCD, the rest are top notch in terms of image quality.

This year, Samsung introduced QLED TVs with a price tag close to OLED. However, in fact, this is an excellent LCD with an extended color space. That is, nothing radically new in the TV structure.

Regarding smart – a matter of personal preference. Both Web Os (LG) and Tizen (Samsung) look modern and work quite fast (especially on 4K TVs). At LG, the remote combines a pointer and a scroll wheel for more convenient Internet surfing, while the digital button block is preserved. Samsung in 2016 has a miniature remote control with a minimum of buttons, the TV interface is adjusted so that it is as easy to control as possible. In 2017, the pointer will be returned again, and the remote control will become more massive.

Summing up the article, first of all, we advise you to take materials that are well known to you on a USB flash drive and twist them in the store, because. advertising demo videos are infinitely far from reality. It will not be superfluous to familiarize yourself with all the factory picture modes. Overall, both brands provide plenty of customization options.
