Best 55-Inch TVs for 2023: Samsung, TCL and More Tested and Reviewed

Generally speaking, I think bigger is better when it it comes to screen size, but sometimes “big” can be relative. Small and medium rooms deserve “big” TVs too, even if they can’t fit a 75-inch or 65-inch TV.  In this case, a 55-inch TV offers smaller spaces a big-screen feel — and also gives a good balance of size and affordability.

Most modern 55-inch televisions come with plenty of features and are smart TVs, so you can enjoy streaming your favorite shows and films on Amazon Prime Video, Hulu, Netflix, Disney Plus and more. And higher-end examples offer all the bells and whistles we’ve come to expect, including full-array local dimming, OLED screens, 120Hz refresh rate, 4K UHD resolution, high dynamic range, a plethora of HDMI ports and even high-end gaming features — including variable refresh rate — to go with a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X. The list below represents some of our favorite 55-inch TVs right now.

Other TVs we’ve tested

Sony KD-X80K series: Sony is a prominent brand and its higher-end TVs like the X90J do well in reviews, but the entry-level TV in its 2022 lineup, the X80K, didn’t make the list. It costs around the same as the TCL 6-Series and Samsung Q60 TVs, and had a worse picture than both, with lighter black levels and contrast. It’s definitely not a bad TV, and we liked its Google smart TV system, color accuracy and connectivity, but you can definitely do better for the money. Read our Sony KD-X80K series review.

Amazon Fire TV 4-Series: One of many Fire TVs available for sale, this one is typical of the breed: so-so image quality and a smart TV system that lags behind Roku and Google TV. If you’re a big fan of Alexa voice or see this TV at a really low price it might be worthwhile, but otherwise go for the TCL 4-Series. Read our best budget TVs roundup.

9 Best 4K 55″ TVs

Despite the fact that with the passage of time, television is giving way to numerous online platforms and hosting sites specializing in video display, the TV itself does not lose its relevance precisely because of the ability to connect these sites and hosting sites to the device and the ability to independently select films, series and other things for family or solo viewing. The fact is that with constant work at the computer during the working day, an additional load on the eyes is produced even after it while watching movies. A large screen and high quality viewing will help reduce visual stress, as well as increase positive viewing emotions.

Today we will talk about how to choose a 55-inch 4K TV, as well as offer a rating of the most reliable models.

Main selection parameters:

  • Features
  • Location and distance
  • Matrix technology

Features

When choosing a TV at the present stage, one should take into account several features that characterize the quality, and hence the functionality and cost of the TV. First of all, you should choose according to the resolution, which is presented in HD (1280 * 720), Full HD (1920*1080), 4K (3840*2160) and even 8K. The latter is an innovative format that was introduced relatively recently and is still limited to a small number of models, which means that there are not many videos that support this format available on the Internet.

The first two options have been popular and interesting for a long time, but not in the long run. Much more interesting is the 4K format, which is gaining more and more popularity and will be relevant for a long time.

In addition, it is important to choose the right dimensions, namely the diagonal, which is traditionally measured in inches. The ideal option is 55 inches, since it can be called the most standard. In addition, buying a TV of a certain diameter leads to some parameters that need to be considered.

Location and distance

The device is selected based on the possible length of the room and the free space on the wall that the TV will occupy. The ideal option would be exactly 55 inches, as it will fit almost any room, it will not look too big and take up a lot of space.

Matrix technology

As a rule, several basic types of matrix are presented. They are responsible for brightness, contrast, color reproduction and so on. The LED matrix variant is based on a liquid crystal coating. It is they who are currently very popular, and also have their own varieties, which are divided according to the type of arrangement of liquid crystals (IPS and VA). Variations also have their advantages and disadvantages, which you can explore if you wish.

The next variant – QLED – has a higher price, as it is a better version of the previous variant. This option is suitable for lovers of bright and more detailed pictures, as well as for movie fans.

OLED matrix models are even more expensive options with organic light emitting diodes in the matrix, which means amazingly accurate color reproduction. Another advantage of this model is its thinness.

Price and appearance are also of great importance when choosing.

Sleek and slim, the TV is not only a great design solution, but also fits comfortably on a wall or horizontal surface. At the same time, the model will work at maximum efficiency for the longest possible time, since the model is made with the highest quality and does not respond to external stimuli. The speakers make up a standard power of 10 watts each, perfectly reproduce the sound, however, for large rooms they may not be powerful enough. The TV provides the ability to connect to a Wi-Fi module, as well as an input for other devices using HDMI and USB connectors – perhaps the most popular for connecting at the moment. It is with the help of these connectors that the capabilities of the device are greatly expanded.

Regardless of whether a static or dynamic picture is displayed on the screen, it will be transmitted at a sufficient level, although not as realistic as in similar models.

However, there is an advantage – for Apple users, connection to a specialized Apple TV is available, and for owners of a smart home – to Apple HomeKit and LG Smart ThinQ. Externally, the model is quite thin and looks like a great addition to the interior.

A distinctive feature of this model and the line in general is a three-dimensional color that fully conveys the image both in static and in dynamics. Contrast is provided by the backlight, which also increases brightness and has a positive effect on eye strain. That is why the picture is as close to reality as possible, which looks especially impressive together with 4K quality and a frameless screen, which, as it were, are immersed in the image. Another feature is high-quality stereo sound with surround sound effect. It will help both when watching various kinds of videos, and when playing specialized games – the TV is perfectly adapted for them using the low latency mode. The connection with a smartphone, which is becoming more and more relevant lately, is also original – to connect, it is enough to touch the smartphone to the frame of the device. Rating results

Despite the rather specific parameters of size and image quality, choosing the best TV is still quite difficult: several companies compete for the title of leader at once, so each innovation almost immediately appears in another model from a competing company. A feature of the right choice in such cases is a clear awareness of one’s needs and the absence of a temptation to purchase a model with the greatest number of innovations that may not be needed in specific conditions.

Such rationality will ensure the choice of a rational in terms of price and efficient model. And the most functional devices are:

  1. The best inexpensive TV option is SUPRA STV-LC55ST0070U LED.
  2. The combination of high-quality picture and good sound – KIVI 55U790LW 2021 HDR, LED.
  3. The most innovative option – Samsung QE55Q60AAU 2021 QLED, HDR.

    Good luck choosing!

    Top 10 Best 55″ TVs – Ranking 2023 (Price/Quality)

    Content

The 55 inch TV is a great choice for your living room. It is optimal to watch it from a distance of 2-4 meters, then all the details of the image will be visible, and the eyes will not strain excessively.

So that you can choose the TV of your dreams, I have compiled a rating of 55-inch TVs in 2023, including the most popular and high-quality 4K models that are for sale on Yandex.Market.

    10. Hisense 55E7HQ 2022 QLED

    • HD resolution: 4K UHD
    • Screen technology: QLED
    • Screen refresh rate: 60 Hz
    • Wireless: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi

This model has a VA-matrix, which means you don’t have to see black, blue or gray shades. Black will be truly black. Quantum dot Direct LED backlight provides a bright picture.

The TV supports various HDR formats: Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG. This means that the image quality will be as close as possible to what the creator wanted to see it.

55E7HQ 2022 runs Vidaa OS, which allows you to download compatible applications from the company’s application store. You can also install third-party applications, although Hisense does not guarantee their compatibility and correct operation.

The sound of this model did not cause delight among users, it is flat, not voluminous. Of course, everyone has their own subjective perception, but just in case, get ready to buy a soundbar.

    excellent picture

    nimble shell

    supports Smart Home from Yandex

    supports Airplay

    inconvenient remote control

    OS is damp

    9. Samsung QE55Q70BAU

      900 14 HD resolution: 4K UHD
    • Screen technology: HDR, QLED
    • Screen refresh rate: 100 Hz
    • Wireless: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi

If you want a TV for both movies and games, then a high refresh rate (and the high price that comes with it) is indispensable.

AMD FreeSyncPremiumPro technology allows you to produce a picture without gaps and artifacts. Add to that HDR 10+ support for improved detail in dark and bright scenes, and you have a great TV for the most intense gaming battles.

QE55Q70BAU supports RealDepthEnhancer technology to increase foreground contrast. And the interior mode will make the TV part of the home environment. For example, it can display a picture or a window.

    rich, vibrant colors

    excellent black color

    good sound

    convenient remote control

    fast Smart TV

    8. Xiaomi TV A2 55 HDR

    • Screen technology: HDR, LED
    • Screen refresh rate: 60 Hz
    • Wireless: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi

A2 has a good design – thin bezels are almost invisible and do not distract from viewing. There is a TV set on a stable stand, unfortunately, it cannot be moved.

The VA panel has a high contrast ratio, but when viewed from the side, it appears faded. However, it is unlikely that you will often watch TV at an angle. This model has no problems with color rendering and picture brightness. The maximum brightness is 300 cd/m².

There are various picture modes in the settings, including Sports, Film and Vivid. And if everything suits you, then you can leave the default mode. Declared support for Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG.

Separately, I note the remote control, it is minimalistic on the TV, there is not even a button for quick access to the settings. But this can be fixed by remapping the buttons in the Button Mapper.

Android TV OS, convenient, customizable, however, according to user reviews, slowdowns happen from time to time. Otherwise, there is nothing to scold the TV for.

    loud sound

    excellent picture quality

    convenient voice control

not the most convenient remote control

    7. KIVI 55U740NB

    • HD resolution: 4K UHD
    • Screen technology: LED
    • Screen refresh rate: 60 Hz
    • Wireless: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi

This TV immediately received 4 HDMI 2.1 ports, as well as a USB Type-A connector for viewing content from external media. VA matrix, like most of the best 55-inch TVs of 2023 for price and quality. The viewing angles of such matrices may not be the best, but the black color is impeccable.

You can mount the TV on the included stand or hang it on the wall using VESA 400×300, but you have to buy the bracket separately.

I would like to note the high peak brightness of this model – 500 cd/m2, as well as a good contrast ratio (7500:1). Android is chosen as the OS, so there will be no problems with installing third-party programs.

    convenient remote control

    quick interface

    best buy soundbar

  • Screen technology: HDR, LED
  • Screen refresh rate: 60 Hz
  • Wireless: Bluetooth, Chromecast, Wi-Fi
  • A budget option in the top 55″ 4k TVs, but in this case “inexpensive” doesn’t mean “bad”.

The model has a good peak brightness of 270 cd / m², supports HDR10 and HLG, so the picture will be clearly distinguishable even in very dark and bright scenes.

The TV is equipped with three HDMI 2.1 ports, supports the Wi-Fi 5 standard. It has a smart interface, and it is possible to install third-party applications. Voice search is also supported. In general, the TCL 55P637 has no significant drawbacks for its price. Even the sound – a weak point of other models – this one is surprisingly good.

    juicy picture

    nimble interface

    easy setup

except for small highlights at the edges of the frames, but when watching movies they are invisible

    5. LG 55UP7750

    • 4K UHD
    • Screen refresh rate: 60 Hz
    • Screen technology: HDR, LED
    • HDR Formats: HDR 10 Pro
    • Wireless: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth

Large, thin, stylish, modern – the 55UP7750 model from LG fully corresponds to all these epithets. Almost imperceptible frames, a tiny, not conspicuous stand, brightness, color, viewing angles – everything is on top.

The system operates smoothly, quickly and reliably, and the remote control is small and precise. But if your goal is integration into the “Smart Home” from “Yandex”, then it is better to look towards other models. Because although the specifications claim to work with Alice, in reality it does not. What is the reason is unclear. Yandex technical support sends to LG technical support, but she is silent.

    build quality and materials

    good picture

    fast processor and OS

no integration with Yandex Smart Home

small set of interfaces (2 HDMI, 1 USB)

    4. Samsung UE-55AU9 000

    • 4K UHD
    • Screen refresh rate: 60 Hz
    • Screen technology: HDR, LED
    • HDR formats: HDR 10, HDR 10+
    • Wireless: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth

It is easy and simple to set up – you take it out of the box, hang it on the wall and, using a special application on your phone, you can deal with its controls and characteristics in just 5 minutes. The interface is clear and logical.

Image quality is good out of the box, plus it can be improved further with a variety of technologies. Dynamic Crystal Color is responsible for color and detail, High Dynamic Range – for image contrast, brightness of light and blackness of shadows without sacrificing detail, and players will appreciate Motion Xceleration Turbo (motion transmission system) and special modes with changing screen aspect ratio.

However, Samsung programmers went too far with some modes – for example, if you watch a video with dynamic scenes unfolding on a stationary background, you can notice slight tremors in the background image – this is the anti-aliasing algorithm. Fortunately, the level of customization in Samsung’s software is high, everything can be adjusted to your tastes and abilities.

    picture quality

    wide viewing angles

    many settings for gamers

    mediocre sound

    anti-aliasing algorithm not working correctly

    3. Philips 55PUS8057/60

In general, the TV turned out to be successful, first of all, thanks to the picture. Color and light/shadow ratios are brought to their full potential in Dolby Vision.

Attention – there is a danger of getting hooked on the Ambilight; she’s just gorgeous. It is clear that it does not change the actual technical characteristics of color and contrast, but only affects the human brain, but after trying it once, you don’t want to watch movies and programs without it. And it can also be used as color music or as a source of soft diffused light in the evenings and at night. The interface with Android TV OS just flies, all applications start and turn off instantly. The amount of RAM – 2 GB, built-in – 16 GB.

I would also like to note a large number of HDMI ports – 4 pieces, so that you can connect your favorite console to the TV, and there will still be free ports for other tasks.

There are a large number of pre-installed codecs (HDR, already mentioned Dolby Vision and many others). However, many buyers are not happy with the sound of this model, so get ready to buy a soundbar. The remote seems to be convenient, but without voice control.

The matrix of the TV is VA, which means black is real black, not dark gray (however, you will have to hang the TV strictly opposite the viewing place, otherwise color aberrations appear when viewed from an angle). Colors are good, and image enhancement programs honestly correct for weaknesses. For example, the software turns the usual 25 frames per second into 60, so the picture is smooth and pleasing to the eye everywhere, from streaming to applications and the browser.

As for the set of applications, the Samsung store is on top – there are all popular services, and they are pre-installed. Interfaces work like clockwork. The light sensor allows you not to bathe with the brightness settings, the TV itself will do everything as it should. It’s nice that for this price category, Samsung chose a real One Remote. And the legs of the device do not need to be screwed in with a screwdriver, they are simply inserted, latched, and you can use the TV.

    1. LG 55UP7500

    • Screen refresh rate: 60 Hz
    • Screen technology: HDR, LED
    • HDR Formats: HDR 10 Pro
    • Wireless: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth

LG’s 55UP7500 is #1 in the 2023 mid-price TV rankings for price and quality – and for good reason. The IPS matrix perfectly conveys colors, they are juicy, natural – in general, the picture quality is very pleasing, especially if you take the time to set it up. Sharpness and detail are also excellent.

Sound for a TV in this price range stands out from its peers; it can be compared with a high-quality portable speaker. The strength of the TV is in the operating system and processor.
