Yes, antivirus software is necessary to protect your devices from potential online threats, such as malware, phishing attacks, and hacking attempts. Without antivirus software, your devices are more susceptible to infections, which can ultimately lead to data loss, identity theft, and other damages.

There are many antivirus options available, but Kaspersky is trusted by millions of users worldwide and our security plans have been consistently ranked as the best antivirus programs on the market. Our new security plans provide advanced security features, such as multiple layers of protection against various threats, real-time scanning, and frequent updates to keep your devices secure.

Kaspersky’s advanced security plans also include features such as a password manager and a VPN, providing additional layers of protection for your online activities.

Antivirus software is designed to detect and remove malware by scanning your device and comparing files to a database of known threats. It uses a range of techniques to identify online threats like viruses, Trojans, and ransomware to provide advanced protection against cyber threats.

Antivirus software can sometimes slow down your computer due to the resources it uses to scan and detect potential threats. However, Kaspersky’s new security plans are designed to minimize the impact on system resources to prevent any significant slowdowns while still providing advanced protection against online threats.

Additionally, Kaspersky’s security software has a range of customization options, allowing you to adjust scan settings and performance levels to find a balance between security and system performance.

Antivirus programs can provide some protection against zero-day vulnerabilities by detecting and blocking previously unseen attacks.

However, zero-day vulnerabilities refer to security holes that are unknown to the developer, making it difficult for antivirus software to prevent them entirely. Kaspersky’s security plans utilize behavior-based detection techniques and advanced security measures to identify malicious activity and prevent attacks, providing an added layer of protection against zero-day threats.

While no single security solution can fully protect against all risks, Kaspersky’s new plans are highly effective against a wide range of online threats, including zero-day vulnerabilities.

Antivirus and anti-malware software are both designed to protect your computer from online threats, but they differ in terms of their scope of protection. Antivirus software is primarily focused on preventing viruses, worms, and other forms of malware from infecting your computer, while anti-malware software is designed to detect and remove a wider range of online threats, including viruses, spyware, Trojans, adware, and more.

Kaspersky’s security plans offer advanced protection against all types of online threats, providing comprehensive security for your devices and sensitive data.

The offer of antiviruses by the ISPs is gaining more and more popularity. Currently, Doctor Web, Agnitum, Kaspersky Lab, Eset and Panda have entered this market with their solutions. However, the presented products differ significantly from each other.

Since 2008, antiviruses in Russia can be bought not only in stores or on the Internet, but also from Internet providers that have implemented anti-virus protection services. It’s a fashionable fad – it’s not for nothing that almost all vendors that divide the “loaf” of the Russian market in large chunks have adopted this model.

The flagship in this market, in its own opinion, is the Russian company Doctor Web, which presented its Internet service Dr.Web AV-Desk at the end of 2007. Dr.Web AV-Desk remained the only offer on the market until February 2009, when the Doctor Web initiative was picked up by Agnitum, which offered its Outpost AV Service (Agnitum, as you know, uses the core of the Hungarian antivirus manufacturer Virus Buster). In the future, Kaspersky Lab and Eset, and then Panda, announced their developments for providers.

    Market today

Today, the situation on the market for offering antiviruses by providers based on installed services is as follows: Agnitum’s Outpost AV Service was implemented by no more than 4 providers, Eset and Kaspersky Lab have similar successes. The only major provider that currently offers anti-virus data protection for vendors is ER-Telecom. It covers the 12 largest cities in Russia, with the exception of Moscow and St. Petersburg.

    ISP antivirus delivery schemes

SaaS model (for example, Dr.Web AV-Desk) Standard License Resale Service
4 tariff packages of the service take into account the needs of different segments of subscribers of providers Standard licenses for the same products as regular sales
Ease of purchase – subscriber does not need to register a license The subscriber needs to activate
The subscription is renewed automatically without the participation of the subscriber. Funds are debited from the personal account of the subscriber Extension takes place with the participation of the subscriber
The service can be suspended The term of the purchased license cannot be suspended (only at the end of the subscription period)
The possibility of using one license by several users is excluded – protection of sales of providers and reduction of piracy 1 serial number can be used by several users (if posted on the Internet)

    Protection of subscribers’ PCs only
Communication of the provider through the program with its subscribers, the ability to send updates and information There is no connection between the provider and its subscribers through the program
Endless possibilities for self-designing promotional tariff packages There is no way to independently enter new offers

    “Doctor Web”, 2009

Doctor Web was the first to trod a path in ER-Telecom, which, according to the company itself, owns the palm in this market. In comparison with it, according to Doctor Web, the shares of competitors seem insignificant so far. The Dr.Web Anti-virus service is offered only in Russia by about 170 companies that provide Internet access. In addition, Doctor Web extended its web to the territory of Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Estonia, Kyrgyzstan, as well as France and the Netherlands.

Considering the current situation on the market, one cannot but try to predict whether Doctor Web will continue to dominate or whether it will have to share market shares with competitors.

It is obvious that some ISPs, guided by the examples of ER-Telecom and St. Petersburg SkyNet, even if they have already implemented Dr.Web AV-Desk, have repeatedly thought about expanding the number of anti-virus packages offered. As a rule, behind this is the desire to offer your subscriber a choice. However, without affecting the detection quality of each antivirus, let’s ask ourselves the question: are the services offered to providers really the same?

For comparison, let’s take Kaspersky Subscription Services, ESET NOD32 for ISP and Dr. Web AV-Desk.

    There will be a subscription

Access to the subscription management system, regardless of the solution, is carried out through the subscriber’s personal account, which is quite convenient, given that it is customary to pay for the Internet there. However, before using the service, it must be connected. And this is where the differences begin.

In the variant with Kaspersky Subscription Services and ESET NOD32 for ISP, we are faced with a classic model that has nothing to do with the SaaS (Software as a Service) model. The fact is that subscribers receive the same licenses as when buying a regular antivirus, moreover, they require activation – the introduction of a key. A more convenient model is offered by Dr.Web AV-Desk, or rather, the Dr.Web Anti-virus service based on it. Here, the connection takes place “in one click” – that is, the subscriber puts a checkmark and downloads an individual distribution kit, which in a couple of seconds launches an anti-virus agent on his computer.

If a Dr.Web Anti-virus subscriber does not plan to turn on the computer for a long period, he can suspend the subscription

Next, consider the process of extending the use of the service, which is also implemented in all three solutions mentioned. The renewal of the anti-virus protection service offered on the basis of Dr.Web AV-Desk occurs without the participation of the subscriber, unless he suspends the subscription to the service for the next accounting period. In this case, the money, if any, is automatically debited from the account. In the variant with ESET NOD32 for ISP, everything happens a little differently – the subscriber is required to confirm the renewal. On the one hand, it is not so difficult, on the other hand, which of us did not forget to pay for the Internet on time? Exactly the same thing can happen with the anti-virus protection service.

Having touched on the connection and renewal, we cannot but touch on the possibility of suspending the subscription. Here the service “Dr.Web Anti-virus” also has a significant advantage. The fact is that, unlike ESET NOD32 for ISP and Kaspersky Subscription Services, following the implementation of Dr.Web AV-Desk, subscribers are provided with a service, not a license. Behind these beautiful words are extremely simple conclusions. Having gone on vacation, a subscriber who has connected Kaspersky Anti-Virus from the provider (any action with the subscription has an effect only at the end of the paid period) or ESET NOD32 pays for it, even if he does not use it. And a subscriber of the “Dr.Web Anti-virus” service, if he does not plan to turn on the computer for a long period, can easily suspend the subscription on any day and not overpay.

And, finally, without delving into the features of detecting malicious objects by various solutions, let’s consider what the subscriber receives as a result. When connecting ESET NOD32, the user has the opportunity to choose just an antivirus or an Internet Security class product (includes antivirus, antispam, firewall, and, as a rule, the so-called “parental control”). These are the same solutions that you can see on store shelves. In the case of Kaspersky Subscription Services, a similar scheme applies. Doctor Web developers have taken a more tortuous path, offering subscribers via providers four tariff packages at once to choose from. It is assumed that in this case everyone will be able to find a service according to their needs – either just an antivirus, or antivirus and antispam, or a service similar to Internet Security. In addition, there is also a service for protecting Windows server platforms.

    On the other side

Until now, we have considered antivirus from providers through the eyes of ordinary users. Now consider the presented services from the point of view of the providers themselves. From the outside it may seem that the number of such differences is not large, but in fact it is not.

By installing Kaspersky Subscription Services and offering licenses to subscribers, the provider eliminates the problem with the virus threat on their PC. At the same time, another software solution may be installed on the computers of employees in the provider’s office, which requires additional costs. Using ESET NOD32 for ISP, the provider, unfortunately, also faces this problem. In turn, Dr.Web AV-Desk makes it possible to protect not only subscribers’ computers, but also all PCs located in different operator’s offices by including them in a single information security network. Moreover, we can talk about a single network only in relation to the development of Doctor Web, since the solutions of Kaspersky Subscription Services and ESET NOD32 for ISP do not imply communication with them from the provider. In contrast to this, Dr.Web AV-Desk assumes the possibility of sending updates and special messages to subscribers from the administrator, who also has the ability to control the virus situation in a network consisting of protected PCs. Here, the analogy with corporate antivirus is more appropriate – in fact, this is what home users get.

Speaking of the marketing component, one cannot fail to mention another key feature of the Internet service developed by Doctor Web specialists. Provision of the Dr.Web Anti-virus service, according to Doctor Web itself, provides ISPs with loyalty and trust from subscribers who feel that they are really taken care of. In addition, in addition to the four tariffs, the provider can create their own promotional tariff packages, thereby attracting new subscribers. Kaspersky Subscription Services and ESET NOD32 for ISP, unfortunately, do not provide such features yet.

Summarizing the above, it is worth noting a positive trend in the Russian information security market – anti-virus services from providers in one form or another are gaining popularity in our country. And the fact that others followed one anti-virus vendor suggests that in the future, competing with each other, developers will offer even more attractive and functional services for providers. As for ordinary subscribers, by and large it does not matter for them whether Doctor Web retains its leading position or whether it will have to “move over” – the main thing is to work comfortably and calmly at a computer connected to the Internet.
