What is USB?
USB (Universal Serial Bus) is an external bus structure for connecting the periphery of the applicable USB to the host. It is mainly used in medium-speed and low-speed peripherals. The USB data cable has four lines. Among them, two lines are responsible for transmitting 5V power supplies. They can directly power some peripherals. The additional two lines are the data line, and the data line is single work. The data rate throughout the system is predetermined, either high or low.

Basic Framework for USB

USB data cable transmission mode

Differences between USB2.0 and USB3.0
On November 18, 2008, Intel, Microsoft, HP, Texas Instruments, NEC, ST-NXP, and other industry giants officially promoted USB3.0. USB 3.0 standards offer ten times the transfer speed and ten times the energy efficiency of USB 2.0, making them ideal for PC peripherals and consumer gadgets. The theoretical bandwidth of the USB3.0 interface is 5Gbps, and the theoretical bandwidth of USB2.0 is 480Mbps. All high-speed USB 2.0 devices will have a better performance to get USB3.0.
Main difference
1. The data bandwidth of USB3.0 is ten times that of USB 2.0, which can reach 5Gb s (480MB/s). And its synchronous transmission bandwidth can reach 384MB/s, which is one of the main differences between USB3.0 and 2.0.
2. Low power consumption. The power consumption of USB3.0 is approximately 25% lower than USB2. 0 when data transfer rates are 20MB/s.
3. USB3.0 is more energy-efficient than USB 2.0.
4. USB3.0 can provide greater power (2.5W to 4.5W) through the cable

What is a data cable and what is it for?
Data cable (data cable or data-cable) is a cable with a specific interface, which is used to transfer data between various digital devices, one of which is usually a personal computer. The need to synchronize data regularly arises for each user, which means that the need for a data cable, with which you can establish the interaction of various electronic devices, arises regularly.
What type of data cables are available and which one should I choose?
Basically, there are three types of data cables:
- Cables connected to the COM port.
- USB cables with COM converter.
- USB cables (without converter).
Let’s look at cable models and find out how they differ from each other and which cable is preferable in a particular case.
Cables made using a COM port.
Cables using COM port (i.e. nine-pin connector to which a mouse was connected in older models of computers, the name comes from the English word communications, i.e. connection) contains a level converter chip. The fact is that COM port and cable connector of the phone use the same signals (in terms of logic), namely TX, RX, RTS, CTS, DSR, DTR, DCD. However, in the phone they have low levels (about 3.6V, i.e. the same as the voltage of the phone’s battery), and in the computer they have levels from -15V to +15V. Of course, such high levels cannot be applied directly to the phone, since it will not work and may even fail. Therefore, a level converter is installed inside the cable, which also provides the inversion necessary for the port to work. Cables of this type are used with Siemens, Samsung, Nokia and some other phones. It should be kept in mind that COM port compared to USB has a number of disadvantages, such as lack of power at the connector (which is why cables are sometimes even supplied with batteries), low speed, etc. The fact is that COM-port was developed at the dawn of the development of computer technology and is a rather old data transfer standard. However, for many phones, such as the Siemens 35 and 55 series, a COM cable is the only solution for connecting to a computer.
if COM cable to modify a little, then through it you can, using special programs, update the phone’s firmware and turn on / off some functions. For some people, changing firmware becomes an exciting experience, despite the fact that this is a dangerous business and, if handled ineptly, can damage the phone. Please note that such programs are called utility programs and are not intended for the end user. Cables made with USB converters.
This type of cable is the most clumsy and at the same time the most expensive. Let’s explain: the fact is that such cables have an emulator chip of COM port , i. e., you plug the cable into USB port and install the driver. The driver is for the cable itself, and not for the phone, since this cable is already an independent device. When the driver is installed, the emulator chip begins to simulate (or, as computer scientists say, emulate) the work of COM port . That is, there is a double conversion of information: the phone thinks that it is working with COM port , and the software installed on the computer, in turn, also thinks that it is communicating with COM port , but this port is virtual, it is created by the emulator chip drivers. The result is a Zaporozhets with a motor from Mercedes, or vice versa, as you like.
It is difficult to say who had the idea to produce such cables and most importantly, why and who needs it at all. Working with such a cable is extremely inconvenient, because, as a rule, proprietary programs are designed to work with real COM port , not virtual. Moreover, branded cables are not manufactured by based on the emulator. The cables with the emulator are mostly Chinese. But the paradox is that it is cables of this type that are usually littered with shop windows. What else to say: such a cable is useful only to the owner of a laptop, where there is no COM port . Although I always recommend to everyone in the case of a laptop to purchase phones that work with USB directly. (read about it below).
Most often, cables based on the USB converter are returned to the store, as their installation requires some knowledge and time, and most people do not have either one or the other, or both at the same time.
Straight USB cables (without converter).
This type of cable is the most preferred, but, unfortunately, it is not supported by all phones. The most striking example is the Motorola V150, V180, V220, C330, C350, C450, C550, C650, etc. series phones. This cable does not contain any chips. It directly connects the phone to the USB port.
