DJI OM5: specifications, price and comparison of the latest version of Osmo Mobile
DJI has updated its gimbal for mobile devices, and in the new version it introduces some interesting changes compared to the previous generation, which was already very complete. However, is it worth buying a new model if you already have Osmo Mobile before this one? DJI OM 5 ? Let’s see it.
- 1 DJI Osmo Mobile 5
- 2 New DJI OM Light clamp
- 3 DJI OM 5 specifications
- 4 Should I buy the new DJI Osmo Mobile 5?
DJI Osmo Mobile 5
DJI has released a new version of its popular XNUMX axis gimbal for mobile devices. DJI OM 5 or DJI Osmo Mobile 5 as it is also commonly known. This time around, there have been design changes and some other innovations added that help improve a product that was already great in its past generations. So much so that this first model can be said to be the benchmark in the mobile gimbals sector.
The first major change is that this new DJI OM 5 is smaller than than its previous few, up to a third when folded. In addition, this is 25% lighter than . It’s something that’s valued because one of the reasons we tend to bet on a cell phone over a compact or DSLR is comfort.
So the fact that the new Osmo Mobile is smaller and lighter makes it more comfortable to carry around during the day. Although these are not the only dramatic changes he has undergone.
Although not visible when folded, the DJI OM 5 now includes the retractable arm or selfie stick, which may seem unnecessary when we use the main camera, but enhances the experience when using the front camera. Because the angle of view of some selfie cameras is not always the widest. So if we can push her back a little, we’ll win. Likewise, in other types of situations, the extra that comes from expanding it also helps to get the shot you’re looking for.
Then there were some changes in terms of the keyboard, now there are independent controls that make it easier to interact and use certain options. This is especially useful when combined with the DJI Mimo video recording app. This one uses all those smart shooting modes, people tracking, etc. for more creative results.
Otherwise, physically it’s still a very well built product with quality materials and an overall feeling of resistance to the passage of time.
New DJI OM Light Clamp
Of course, apart from everything we’ve told you, if there’s an interesting detail about this new DJI OM 5, it’s the new clamp the brand is selling. This is purchased separately and costs 49 euros, which will put off some other users, but will give a plus to those who use their mobile phone as a camera for vlogging.
The new DJI OM Clamp includes two LED lights. which allows them to be used as fill light when recording with the front camera of the terminal and in low light conditions. This way you don’t force the ISO as much and reduce the potential noise that may appear in the video. Something that directly affects the final sharpness of the clip.
In addition, these LED luminaires can be adjusted not only in intensity but also in color temperature. So you can adjust to make it colder or warmer as you like. It is true that it will not be the same as some LED spotlight that can be added to the gimbal in a different way, but the integration will be better and more convenient than adding another element.

Should I buy the new DJI Osmo Mobile 5?
Whatever the product, with every new version it’s logical to wonder if it’s worth changing or not. Even if there was a new model or a bet on the previous one, which supposedly should fall in price.
If you ask yourself these questions about the DJI OM 5 and its predecessor, the DJI OM 4, the answers are pretty simple. So let’s get down to business.
To a simple question of price, if you can’t take advantage of the offer, the DJI OM 4 costs 149 euros and the costs 159 euros the DJI OM 5 , the answer is that logically the latter model is more attractive. But, as we say, it will depend on the price at which you find both.
In terms of size, although the new DJI mobile gimbal is lighter and more compact, if you usually carry it in your backpack when traveling or recording with it and your smartphone, the difference will not be as noticeable, and if you have a gimbal , which allows smooth video recording, may not compensate you.
About the features and performance of you probably won’t be interested in changing either. Because even with the new motors, the axes will stabilize the recording in much the same way, and the options or smart recording modes will be the same. So this is also not a reason to change the model.
However, is why you should bet on the DJI OM 5 . Well, primarily because of that retractable arm. If you are one of those who use the front camera a lot and at some point you would like to be able to move it a little further, then this is your ideal stabilizer. Also because if you place it on a table or other surface to record yourself, you can easily lift it up so that the camera is at eye level, for example, and doesn’t take a picture from a low angle.
