Homepod mini deals: Best HomePod Deals for July 2023

Best HomePod Deals for July 2023

Apple launched the HomePod in February 2018 with a premium $349.00 price tag that matched the company’s marketing angle, which presented the smart speaker as a music-first device with excellent sound quality. After discontinuing the original model in March 2021, Apple announced a new model in January 2023, which now is sold alongside the HomePod mini.

The new ‌HomePod‌ includes a backlit touch surface and mesh fabric exterior that is virtually identical to the original device. Internally, it includes a four-inch high-excursion woofer, five tweeters, four microphones, an S7 chip and U1 chip, and support for Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos. It’s priced at $299.

The ‌HomePod mini‌ is a smaller iteration on Apple’s in-home speaker, bringing the price down to a more affordable $99 price tag. In the fall of 2021, Apple added three bright new colors to the ‌HomePod mini‌ line: Blue, Yellow, and Orange.

With ‌HomePod‌, Apple Music subscribers can easily stream their favorite artists, playlists, radio stations, albums, and more by talking to Siri. The device is also a home hub for HomeKit devices, allowing users to control their Hue bulbs, Ecobee thermostats, and more using their voice.

In this guide, you’ll find the best currently available price for ‌the ‌HomePod mini‌ at major Apple resellers including Adorama, Amazon, B&H Photo, Best Buy, and MacMall (which is now integrated with TigerDirect).

If you’re on the hunt for a bargain on Apple’s HomePod or HomePod mini we are here to help.

The bad news is that HomePod deals tend to be scarce, but we have rounded up the best available right here.

See: HomePod vs HomePod mini to see how the two models compare. We’ve also looked at a selection of the best AirPlay speakers and you may also be interested in our round up of the best AirPods deals.

In January 2023 Apple reintroduced the full-sized HomePod. This came almost two years after the full-sized HomePod was discontinued, in March 2021. The new second generation HomePod is 4mm shorter than its predecessor and lighter, but there’s not a lot else that’s different.

The HomePod (2nd gen) then went on sale on Friday, February 3, 2023. You can order one from Apple for $299/£299, or try one of the stockists in the table below who might be offering a discount on Apple’s price.

Best HomePod mini deals

The HomePod mini was introduced in autumn 2020 with an MSRP of $99/£99: an appealing price that is within reach for the average budget. (The price dropped, briefly, by a further £10 in the U.K. when a new range of colours were announced on 18 October 2021, however, the price in the U.K is now back up to £99). Apple’s price at time of writing is $99/£99.

It’s certainly more budget-friendly than the standard HomePod, which was priced at $299/£279 before Apple discontinued it in March 2021 the second generation of which now costs $299/£299. The catch is that the low price of the HomePod mini means deals are rare.

In the U.S. over Black Friday 2022 we saw Best Buy discounting the HomePod mini by $5, but there are no such discounts now.

One place you won’t find the HomePod or HomePod mini is Amazon, of course there are plenty of deals to be had on Amazon’s Echo speakers.

Set up your HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV, or iPad as a Home Center

Home Center allows you to control your HomeKit and Matter accessories when you’re not at home, share control of your accessories with others, and automate accessories so they can do the right thing at the right time.

To add Matter accessories to the Home app, you need to set up a Home Center. Thread-enabled Matter accessories require a Thread-enabled home center such as a HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) with Wi-Fi + Ethernet, or a supported 3rd party edge router.

Setting up HomePod mini or HomePod as a Home Center

When you set up HomePod mini or HomePod*, these devices automatically become a Home Center. Just make sure your iPhone or iPad is signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID you used to set up your HomeKit and Matter accessories in the Home app.

Set up Apple TV as a home hub

When you add an Apple TV* to HomeKit, this device automatically becomes a home hub.

  1. Open the Settings app on your Apple TV.
  2. Select Users and Accounts. Make sure your name is in the Default User field and that you’re signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID that you used to set up your HomeKit and Matter accessories in the Home app.
  3. Go back to your Apple TV settings, then select AirPlay & HomeKit.
  4. Scroll down and select Room, then select a room or add a new room.

Set up iPad as a home hub

  1. Tap Settings > [your name] and make sure you’re signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID you used to set up HomeKit and Matter accessories in the Home app .
  2. Tap iCloud, then scroll down and make sure the Home app is enabled under Apps that use iCloud.
  3. Tap Settings > Home and turn on iPad as Home Accessory Center.

For iPad to be used as a home hub, it must be at home, turned on, and connected to your home Wi-Fi network.

iPad is not supported as a home hub in the new, more robust and efficient Home app architecture, which is available as a separate update.

If the home center is not working properly

  • Make sure your HomePod, HomePod mini, Apple TV, or iPad is running the latest operating system.
  • Make sure the person signed in to iCloud on an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV is the primary user of the Home app and not an invitee.
  • Turn on iCloud Keychain and two-factor authentication for your Apple ID.
  • Make sure that the device configured as a home hub is turned on at home and connected to your home Wi-Fi network.

Additional features provided by the Home app

1. Learn Siri commands

With HomePod, almost all interaction is done using Siri voice commands, so they are worth learning. Content playback, alarm clocks and smart home control are the tip of the iceberg. Just ask the voice assistant what she can do.

2. Set up a stereo pair

If you are the lucky owner of two HomePod mini speakers, you can pair them into a stereo pair.

How to pair two HomePod minis into a stereo pair

    1. Open the Home app and hold your finger on the speaker icon;
    2. Scroll through the menu and click “Create stereopair”.

We act according to the instructions: select the second column, its location and other settings.

3. Quick transfer of playback to the speaker

To quickly transfer playback from your smartphone to your HomePod, you need to enable this option on your iPhone.

Open “Settings” – “General” – “AirPlay and Handoff” and activate the item “Transfer to HomePod”.

Now, if something is playing on your smartphone, you just need to bring the device to the top of the speaker and the magic happens.

4. Use AirPlay

While some streaming services support HomePod playback directly, some don’t. With AirPlay, you can transfer any music or sound from a video that plays on your iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV to the speaker.

5. Set up “Intercom”

The function is relevant for those who want to communicate with households using a speaker, iPhone and Apple Watch. Conventionally, you are in the far part of the apartment and do not want to shout about some important matter – use Intercom.

It is also configurable via the Home app on iPhone or iPad.

How to set up “Intercom”

    1. Open the “Home” application and click on the icon in the upper left corner – go to the home settings;
    2. In the Intercom menu, specify when you will receive notifications and which users in the home can send them.

6. Add support for multiple users

If multiple family members use HomePod mini, they should be added to the “Home” so that they can also control the speaker.

How to add users to the “Home”

  1. Open the “Home” application and click on the icon in the upper left corner – go to the home settings;
  2. Click “Invite People” and select a contact or enter the email of the person you want to add.

7. Select a language for Siri

If you do not know English well, but speak Russian well, the column must be updated to version 15.2 – support for Russian Siri has been added.

After the update, the language can be selected in the “Home” application settings:

  1. Hold your finger on the speaker icon and scroll to the Siri section;
  2. Select “Language” and set to Russian or other familiar.

8. Stop playback when someone leaves

Automation will eliminate the constant pause check when you leave the house.

How to set up auto pause

  1. Open the Home app and hold your finger on the speaker icon;
  2. Scroll to the “Automations” section and select “Pause playback when someone leaves”.

If there is no such item, then you should create an automation: without leaving the previous menu, click “Add Automation” and configure the settings. You can, for example, set a limit and the music will stop only after the last user leaves the house.

9. Search songs by lyrics

If you don’t know the name of a song or artist, you can ask Siri to find a track by lyrics.
