7 Best Cheap Printers in 2023 (For Home or Small Office)
Almost by definition, the best cheap printer is going to be governed by price. Outstanding print quality costs money. So if that’s what you need, you will probably look at something more expensive. But this review concentrates on cheap printers that produce good-quality prints.
The focus is on low-volume, occasional printing. We’ve selected color and monochrome printers. But what does “cheap” mean? All the printers here are below or hovering around the $100 mark in the US. Our top pick is the HP Deskjet 3755 All-in-One Printer. It has solid print speeds, is very compact, and does a good job of printing photos.

Connectivity | USB, Wi-Fi |
Duplex | Manual |
Key Features | Very small footprint, available in seven colors, qualifies for Instant Ink |
Best For | Anyone looking for a capable multifunction machine with a tiny footprint and attractive price |
The HP Deskjet 3755 All-in-One is notable first of all for its size. It takes up very little space on your desk. It is barely bigger than US letter-size paper.
Rather cleverly, this small size doesn’t stop it from being able to scan up to letter/A4 size. Paper is fed through a scanning bar on top of the printer. So there’s no need (nor room) for a scanner bed. One disadvantage is that this limits you to sheets of paper. Scanning from a book, for instance, isn’t possible.
The printing quality is decent. We can’t expect perfect prints from a machine that costs so little. But the HP works well. And perhaps appropriately for our readers, its strength is photo printing.
The printer qualifies for HP’s Instant Ink. The company estimates that this reduces the cost of printing by up to 50%. It might not be such a consideration here. High-volume printing is not what the DeskJet 3755 is made for. But it is a consideration.
Printing speeds are unexciting but acceptable. In fact, everything about the HP Deskjet 3755 All-in-One is pretty much what you would want in a home printer and scanner. It’s an affordable cheap printer and does everything to a decent standard. And it really doesn’t dominate the room.

Scanner | N/A |
Connectivity | USB, Wi-Fi |
Duplex | Manual |
Key Features | Wi-Fi direct printing from computers and mobile devices, compact size |
Best For | Anyone looking for a fast networkable laser printer at a low price |
You might not have heard of Pantum, the company that manufactures the P2502W Laser Printer. But the printer has been winning a number of friends. Most of all because of the speed and quality of its printing. And at a price that was unimaginable just a few years ago.
There are a couple of benefits to having a laser printer at home. If you’re printing out homework or letters, then the speed is attractive. We tend to think of a laser as suited to high-volume printing. But they are also useful if you only print occasionally. There is no ink to dry up or nozzles to clog.
There’s no scanner and of course no color. But a networkable printer that can churn out 23 pages per minute for this price is hard to ignore. If you don’t need color, then the P2502W Laser Printer is worth looking at.

Connectivity | USB, Wi-Fi, PictBridge |
Duplex | Automatic |
Key Features | Borderless printing, print from iOS and Android, works with Alexa |
Best For | Anyone wanting a flexible, everyday all-in-one at a very low price |
The Canon Pixma MG3620 is a cheap printer from one of the market leaders. It has an impressively-fast scanner. And it prints text and photos of impressive quality. This is partly down to the dye and pigment-based inks. The black cartridge is pigment based which prints crisp text.
The scanner’s 1200 x 1200 dpi resolution is more than enough for everyday needs. Because it’s a flatbed, you can scan your textbook, passport, or other originals with ease.
The separate color and black cartridges mean less waste than a single cartridge. But they’re more wasteful than individual colored ink cartridges. There are three different sizes, so if you are printing a lot, you can go for the XL or XXL. But there’s no getting away from the fact that Canon ink is expensive.
Still, the Canon Pixma MG3620 offers astonishing value for money. For printing low-to-medium volumes with some regularity, it delivers quality and reliability.

Connectivity | USB, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, NFC |
Duplex | Automatic |
Key Features | Automatic document feeder, NFC, mobile app for easy control |
Best For | Home office or small business users |
The Brother MFC-J1010DW has a tilting control panel for ease of use. This gives it the look of an office machine. And this isn’t a misleading look. Whilst it might be unexciting, it offers a range of features that are attractive to the small office user.
It has the connectivity we would expect via USB and Wi-Fi. But it also has Ethernet. This is a robust solution to networking a printer that is perfect for an office. The Brother mobile app allows access to all the printer’s controls and settings. And the control panel and screen are clear and easy to use.
Another very handy feature is the automatic document feeder. If you need to copy or scan a number of pages, it will let you get on with other things. It also handles double-sided copying. This is a real bonus. And if you’re in a world where the occasional fax is needed, the Brother MFC-J1010DW has you covered.
The best way to describe the performance of this printer is that it is competent. It won’t wow you with its speed. And you won’t be hanging its photos in an exhibition. But it does everything competently. When you consider the price and the business-friendly features, this is all you can ask for.
The Brother MFC-J1010DW is a solid small-office all-in-one machine at a pretty remarkable price.

Connectivity | USB, Wi-Fi |
Duplex | Automatic |
Key Features | Works with Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant, color touchscreen |
Best For | Anyone looking for a budget all-in-one printer with virtual assistant connectivity |
The Epson Expression Home XP-4200, as the name suggests, is designed for home use. So there is no Ethernet and no fax modem. But you do get integration with all the major virtual assistants. So you can use voice commands to control the printer. You can also use the Epson app or the touchscreen.
A cheap printer for the home needs to handle the occasional needs well. Typically we might want to print letters. Or we want to copy an important document or print a photo. Homework projects with mixed graphics and text are also common. The XP-4200 handles all of these tasks sufficiently well.
One notable advantage is the individual ink cartridges. That means no more throwing away two colors because one is empty. This is good news for your wallet and the environment.
So for an up-to-date printer with acceptable speeds and print quality, the Epson Expression Home XP-4200 is a solid choice. The price is very attractive. Especially when you consider the advantage of individual ink cartridges.

Key Features | Borderless printing, rear paper tray |
Best For | Budget-conscious users who need a basic printer |
The Canon TS202 Inkjet Photo Printer has very few bells and whistles. It is an unashamedly basic and cheap printer. And it is very cheap. So much so, that it’s hard to think that any major manufacturer could undercut this price.
So, if you need a cheap printer with no frills, this is worth looking at. The print resolution is decent, so the occasional photo will be OK. Mixed graphic and text documents will also be produced to an acceptable standard. None of this will be done very quickly. But that isn’t the point of this printer.
The Canon TS202 fills a particular need. It’s for someone who needs to print the occasional letter, project, or photo. And you have a very limited budget. Canon has the answer for you here. If those are your criteria, then it is well worth a look.

The Kodak Mini Shot 2 Photo Printer is a total outlier in this group. It is an instant camera that will also print from your mobile device. If all you want is to print occasional photos, it’s an interesting proposition. Why take up space and buy ink cartridges if all you want is mementos?
And the added bonus here is that you get a fairly funky instant camera as well. It’s not the only printer for mobile devices. We have a review of the best smartphone printers if you want to read more. But it was our top pick in that review.
If you only need to print the occasional photo from your phone, the Kodak Mini Shot 2 Photo Printer could be the answer.
What Should You Consider When Buying a Cheap Printer in 2023?
All the printers in this review offer remarkable value for money. Considering the technology involved in their printing processes, the prices are astonishing. There are a few things for you to consider when looking for a cheap printer.
What Features Should you Look for?
Print resolution is expressed in dots per inch (dpi). The higher the number, the better the image quality. This is because details are finer. Of course, this depends on the surface characteristics of your paper. That’s why a photo will never look great on standard copier paper.
All the printers in this review are capable of printing good-quality photos on specialist paper. If you’re looking for a specialist photo printer, take a look at our review of the best ones available.
A printer’s speed is expressed in pages-per-minute (ppm). Some of these cheap printers are slow by modern office standards. Quick printing needs top-quality engineering to ensure smooth and accurate paper handling. And that is expensive. So a common tradeoff is slower speeds. For the home user, it’s rarely an issue. If you need very high speeds, you will need to pay more.
Duplex printing allows you to easily print on both sides of the paper. If it’s automatic, the print driver will cause the printer to reverse the paper and print the second side. If it’s manual, a dialog box will instruct you how to reinsert the paper for the correct duplex function.
Some of these printers have a built-in scanner. Scanner resolution is also measured in dpi. All of the scanners here will work well for copying documents. And some will be good for scanning photos. If you want to know more about scanners for photos, head on over to our review of the best photo scanners.
What About Running Costs?
If you’ve ever bought ink cartridges, you will know this is an important consideration. Budget printers are not immune to this. The best way to cut down on ink costs is to choose a printer that has individual ink cartridges.
And refillable tanks are even cheaper in the long run. But you won’t find these in the “budget” section. And even separate cartridges might not offset the extra cost of the machine itself. The Pantum P2502W Laser Printer in this review will significantly lower your costs. But of course, it is only a monochrome printer.
Just bear in mind that you will probably print more than you think you will. After all, you have a printer now, so why not?
Conclusion: The Best Cheap Printer
Choosing the best cheap printer is like most of our technology decisions. It involves compromises. A low price doesn’t necessarily mean low quality. But it will mean sacrificing features, speed, or connectivity.
Once you decide what you need from your printer, you can make your choice. If it’s the occasional monochrome printing job, then the Pantum P2502W Laser Printer might be all you need. For something more colorful, like our Photography Cheat Sheets or photos, you’ll need a color printer.
We think that the HP Deskjet 3755 All-in-One Printer offers an appealing blend of features, quality, and price.

Best Cheap Printers Of 2023: Printers For Home Or Office
When you purchase through links on our site, we may earn an affiliate commission. Here’s how it works.
The best cheap printers of 2023 prove that you don’t need to spend a small fortune if you’re looking to do some printing out in your home office. Most of the printers on our list sell for less than $100.
We’ve compared these printers across various aspects, like the price, print speed, print quality, design, ease of installation, and color fidelity, among other aspects. One important thing to remember when buying a cheap printer is that some manufacturers lower the price of the printer to entice people to buy but keep the price of its consumables (such as ink cartridges) high, making their money back that way. This means some cheap printers end up being quite expensive over the course of their lifetimes. We’ve kept this in mind while compiling this list of the best cheap printers.
Because home printers don’t need to handle large amounts of print tasks like a printer in an office, you can invest in a budget printer that can handle those requirements. We’d recommend spending a bit more for busy home offices.
So, read on to find the best budget printers available now, and check out the included price comparison tool to find the best deals and save money.

Canon has stripped all but essential functionality from this all-in-one, leaving a portable-sized printer that works surprisingly well. There’s no Ethernet port or scanner bed, but its gridded flat top is perfect for scanning documents using your smartphone and Canon’s iOS/Android companion app. Including Bluetooth and AirPrint makes it easy to connect wirelessly, so the printer does not need to have its own touchscreen.
It prints on glossy photo paper or plain paper with room for sixty sheets of A4 in the main tray. Canon bundles the printer with two small inkjet cartridges, one black, and one combined color. There’s no auto-duplex mode, but that may not be a problem if your print jobs are small and infrequent. There’s also a quiet mode to lower the printing noise for home office use.

When we tested it, this was the smallest laser printer and likely to remain so. The two trays fold away neatly so that the footprint is only a little larger than a sheet of A4, and it stands no taller than the average smartphone.
Being as small and inexpensive as an inkjet, yet with all the speed, economy, and consistency of a laser, the LaserJet Pro M15w is, in many ways, the ideal cheap printer. The LaserJet Pro M15w can print a thousand documents consistently and quickly on a single toner cartridge. It manages to hold one hundred sheets of paper and print on them at the respectable rate of 19ppm. Sadly, there’s no duplex mode and no display, but at this price, it’s hard to argue.

The HP Deskjet 2755 (known in the UK as the HP Deskjet 2710) is a smart-looking small-in-one with an even smaller price tag. It can print, copy and scan in color and accept any size media from envelopes up to A4. It cannot auto duplex, but it has self-healing Wi-Fi and is compatible with AirPrint and Google Cloud Print.
This printer’s printed photos are not great, and the color fidelity and page yield for both color and black documents are low.
As with every other cheap inkjet printer, the cartridge cost is the kicker, but this model is eligible for an HP Instant Ink subscription, which could bring your consumables bill down by around 70%. It also means your replacements will be sent to your letterbox before you run out.

The Pantum P2200W proves that laser printers don’t have to be expensive. This basic black-and-white print-only device costs less than a lot of inkjets but prints much faster at 22 pages per minute, and the bundled starter cartridge is good for 700 pages. A standard cartridge will yield 1,600 pages at a lower per-page cost than any inkjet cartridge.
Unfortunately, it cannot auto-duplex print, but Wi-Fi with Wi-Fi Direct is built for a ready wireless connection. It’s small enough to sit on your desk and big enough to hold 150 sheets in its input tray and 100 in the output tray.

Combined ink cartridge
HP’s oddly shaped all-in-one includes every feature from a fax facility to an SD card slot, giving you easy access to them via a colorful touchscreen interface. The colored inks are combined in one cartridge, and if you subscribe to HP’s Instant Ink service, it will be automatically replaced just before you run out. But it makes sense to subscribe only if you’re regularly printing.
It feels a little flimsy, but photo prints, in particular, look vibrant, and the print resolution is high enough to make the photos appear sharp and colorful when printed on glossy photo paper.
The Envy Photo 7855 is versatile because it can print, copy, scan, and fax. It can auto-duplex print at a decent rate, but what’s problematic is the high replacement cost of the cartridges.

Can feel a little cheap at times
The HP Deskjet 2130 All-in-One printer is another great example of a cheap all-in-one printer. It’s cheaper than the HP Envy 5540 (above), but the lower price does mean you don’t get quite as good a print quality as HP’s other printer.
It’s also a bit slower and feels a little cheap at times. However, if you only want a cheap printer for occasional use (rather than heavy-duty printing), and also need a scanner and photocopier, then the HP Deskjet 2130 All-in-One printer is probably the best cheap printer for you.
The Deskjet 2130 isn’t large and won’t eat up your desk’s real estate. It’s also fairly lightweight, so you won’t have any difficulty shifting it around when you’re not using it. A major problem is the expensive ink cost — if you plan to print regularly with this machine, it’s wiser to opt for HP’s Instant Ink subscription.

The competent Canon PIXMA TS705 is an all-in-one that will not break the bank. It can print, scan and copy in color despite lacking its own flatbed scanner. You use your smartphone instead, thereby decreasing the cost of this simplified device and making more room for paper. You can fit 250 sheets in the main tray and another 100 in the rear tray.
It is very flexible in what it can print onto with blank CDs and even fingernail stickers featured on the list of compatible blank media. It can auto-duplex and achieve enhanced print quality by using five discrete ink cartridges instead of the usual four.
The PIXMA TS705 also supports Canon’s XXL ink cartridges, so you won’t have to refill often (but it will cost more than a regular ink cartridge).

Brother has stripped this laser printer right back to basics to bring the price down to that of the average inkjet printer. It may have lost a few features, such as an auto-duplex mode, a Wi-Fi module, and a covered paper tray, but the Brother HL-1112 is conveniently compact and efficient. It can print at a speedy 20 pages per minute, and there is room for 150 pages in the open paper tray.
This printer is compatible with both Windows and macOS and is fairly lightweight so that it can be moved around easily. There is enough toner in the box for 700 pages, and a new standard cartridge will give you 1,000 pages. For cheap and fast mono laser printing without the frills, this is the Brother you want by your side.

The Canon Pixma range has always been rated especially well for photo printing, and the Canon Pixma MG3650S doesn’t let the team down. The budget model in this range is even better, so you won’t have to break the bank to get high-quality photos and other images printed.
Another big plus is that it’s a wireless printer, so there is no having to mess about with leads and cords. With a print resolution of 4800 x 1200dpi and a color print speed of almost 10 pages a minute, this is a model that can surprise and impress, especially at this price range. It also has a scanner and copier option to boot.
Owing to the high price of Canon’s black ink cartridge, this printer isn’t ideal for those who only want to print plain text documents. But it’ll be a decent investment if you’re going to print color photos.

The printer’s four-color individual ink set is also 50% more efficient in comparison to combined color cartridges. Wi-Fi is built-in for a network connection or a Wi-Fi Direct link with your smartphone.
It can print envelopes and glossy photo paper and hold a hundred sheets of A4 in its main paper tray. The only feature missing is the auto duplex, which is a pity, but with Epson’s aggressive discounting, we think this model is well worth the money. Another potential problem with the printer is that it’s not the easiest to set up and can eat up your time.
How to choose the best cheap printers for you?
To select from the best cheap printers for yourself, begin with assessing where you’ll be using the printer — for an office or for home use.
You’ll want to consider what kind of printing you majorly need — is it image oriented or text-heavy? It’s essential to check the price of the printer’s ink cartridge because if it’s too steep, you’ll end up spending a lot on printing in the long run.
Other than evaluating the print speed and auto duplex functionality, you’ll also want to look at the printer’s connectivity options, control panel usability, and Wi-Fi functionality.
The best cheap printers: how we test
To test the best cheap printers, we’ve looked at the prices of the printers and their ink cartridges. If the price of the printer’s low but the ink cartridge’s expensive, then users will end up spending more in the long run, depending on usage and printer efficiency.
We analyzed the printers’ print quality by printing the same bunch of text documents across all the machines and checking how they perform when printing color and black and white documents. We assessed the quality, vibrancy, and overall fidelity of the color prints.
We also considered the build quality, design, and dimensions of the printers and included both, compact and large printers in our list.

Cheap inkjet printers | Best of 2023
You can certainly understand how in an increasingly digitized world it may seem that the printer, this “old technology” tool, is gradually losing its leading role. But despite this, you will be surprised to know that printer is still widely used . Whether for home use, to print recipes, photos or various documents, or in a semi-professional or corporate context, to create reports, contracts or brochures, the printer is still a permanent fixture in our offices and homes.
In a recent article, we wanted to explore the world of multifunction laser printers that offer a full range of services, from printing to scanning, copying and, in some cases, even faxing. However, these printers are often quite expensive and may be too much of an investment for those who use them infrequently.
However, in this article, we have decided to focus on cheap inkjet printers. These printers, which use ink to print an image on paper, are often more affordable and easier to maintain than their laser counterparts. However, despite the lower price, the market offers a wide range of models and brands, some of which are well known, others lesser known, but all of which are capable of providing a quality product.
To help you make the right choice, we have selected several models of inkjet printers, excellent value for money . But not only that, we also took into account another factor that is often overlooked, but which can make a difference in the long run: cost of cartridges. In fact, while the purchase price of a printer may seem low, the cost of cartridges can make the investment less convenient than you might think in the long run. Thus, the models we have chosen are distinguished not only by their low initial cost, but also by the low cost of cartridges.
When deciding to buy an inkjet printer, it is important to consider a fundamental detail. The ink present in the cartridges of this type of printer has a specific feature: it can dry out if not used with a certain regularity. This means that if you only plan to use the printer occasionally, you may find it difficult to replace ink cartridges not because they are empty, but because the ink inside has dried up. This can increase operating costs and reduce the efficiency of the printer.
For this reason, if the intended use of the printer is occasional or very limited in time, it may be more convenient to switch to a laser printer. These printers use powdered toner that doesn’t dry out, so you shouldn’t have any issues even with infrequent use. Also, while the initial cost of a laser printer may be slightly higher, you can save on running costs in the long run due to the longer life of the toner compared to ink cartridges.
If this is your situation and you want to consider purchasing a laser printer, we advise you to read our guide for this type of printer. In our article, you will find a selection of the best models on the market with all the information you need to make an informed choice based on your specific needs.
