Kurt russell and goldie hawn movie: Every Movie Starring Kurt Russell & Goldie Hawn

Every Movie Starring Kurt Russell & Goldie Hawn

Hollywood legends Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have been a couple for decades, and have starred in several films together along the way. Russell first gained fame as a child star in Disney productions during the 1960s and 1970s, before transitioning into a leading man by the early 1980s. While he’s spent decades on the Hollywood A-list and starred in many high-profile films, perhaps his greatest work happened alongside friend and frequent collaborator John Carpenter, on sci-fi/horror classics like The Thing or Escape from New York.

Hawn also started acting in the 1960s and spent the next while appearing in lots of comedies and musical productions, although many forget she won an Oscar for her first big role, that coming in 1969’s Cactus Flower. She later appeared in Steven Spielberg’s theatrical film debut The Sugarland Express, and like Russell, would become a major star in the 1980s thanks to films like Private Benjamin and Wildcats. Russell and Hawn began dating in 1983 and have been a couple ever since, a rarity in Hollywood.

When two actors of Russell and Hawn’s caliber are an item, it’s no surprise they would do some work together. If anything, it’s more surprising that they’ve only collaborated in five movies to date. Here’s the full rundown.

The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band (1968)

A Walt Disney production, The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band from 1968 technically marked the first time Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn worked on a movie, back when they were both still quite young. Based on a biographical book by Laura Bower Van Nuys, The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band unsurprisingly focuses on a traveling family band in 1888 that moved to the then Dakota Territory, not yet the two states it is today. Once there, the Bower family experiences political strife as they support President Glover Cleveland, and their neighbors vote Republican. Also unsurprisingly, The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band is a musical. Russell plays a younger member of the family band named Sidney, while Hawn only shows up in a small bit role, although her screen presence is apparent right away. Notably, the two actors don’t actually share any scenes.

Swing Shift (1984)

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn’s first time properly sharing the screen came in 1984’s Swing Shift when both were steadily on the rise in Hollywood. Directed by Jonathan Demme (The Silence of the Lambs), Swing Shift is a romantic drama set during World War II, and stars Hawn as the wife of a Navy man who takes a job at an armaments factory and while there begins an affair with a charming musician named Lucky (Russell). She also makes a new best friend in neighbor Hazel (Christine Lahti, who got an Oscar nomination for the role). Of course, the fun stops when Hawn’s husband Jack (Ed Harris, Westworld) eventually comes home. While critically acclaimed, Swing Shift bombed at the box office, making back about half its budget. Hawn and Demme clashed behind the scenes too, with Demme removing the phrase “A Jonathan Demme Film” from the credits.

Overboard (1987)

A cult comedy, Overboard is easily the best known instance of Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn starring together. That’s despite its premise being problematic when looked at seriously through a modern lens. Russell plays blue-collar carpenter Dean Proffitt, who does work for a spoiled heiress named Joanna (Hawn), only to get stiffed on the bill. When Joanna has an accident and loses her memory, Dean convinces her she’s his wife and mother to his sons.

Despite being gaslit and kidnapped, after Joanna’s memory returns, she decides she’s happier with Dean and family and returns to them. It’s the kind of movie no one really thought much of in the 1980s but now seems a bit creepy. Overboard got bad reviews and dismal box office at the time of release, becoming a cult item later on video and cable. A race and gender-swapped remake was released in 2018, which saw Anna Faris and Mexican comedian Eugenio Derbez play the lead roles. It got worse reviews but did better financially. It doesn’t seem destined to be a future cult classic though.

The Christmas Chronicles (2018)

It took several decades for Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn to share a movie again, but 2018’s Netflix movie The Christmas Chronicles cast the duo in an exceedingly fitting pair of roles for such a long-lasting couple. Russell plays Santa Claus himself, who sets out to save Christmas for the children of the world after a sleigh accident throws things off schedule. Helping him do this are new friends Kate and Teddy Pierce, whose roof Santa landed on. While not an amazing effort, The Christmas Chronicles charmed many, earning mostly positive reviews and lots of viewership on Netflix. Hawn appeared in the unadvertised surprise role of Mrs. Claus, and for fans of the couple, seeing them play the first couple of Christmas proved delightful. If anything, there probably wasn’t enough of Hawn and Russell together in The Christmas Chronicles, but that would soon be rectified.

The Christmas Chronicles 2 (2020)

Two years later, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn would return as Santa and Mrs. Claus in The Christmas Chronicles 2, also on Netflix. This time, through a series of fantastical circumstances, Kate is transported to the North Pole, along with Jack, the son of her mom’s new boyfriend. Once there, they’re taken in by Santa and Mrs. Claus, but all isn’t happy. A malevolent elf named Belsnickel wants to overthrow Santa and steal the ancient religious artifact that powers his famous village, the Star of Bethlehem. The Christmas Chronicles 2 got similarly good reviews and also drew a large audience. While a Christmas Chronicles 3 isn’t yet greenlit, it does seem likely to happen if the cast is up for returning, as the series has quickly become a holiday staple for the streaming giant. Russell and Hawn were again great together onscreen, and one wonders where they’ll team up next.

Tests which exist to pigeonhole children’s potential, a thing which cannot possibly be measured, least of all by anal-compulsive huns! Another Jewel from the 80´s

The cruel and wealthy owner of a yacht Joanna Stayton (Goldie Hawn) hires the poor carpenter Dean Proffitt (Kurt Russell) to remodel her closet and build a shoe rack. She does not like his work, does not pay him and throws Dean and his tools overboard. Dean loses his tools and goes home to meet his four problematic sons in a dirty simple house in the middle of nowhere. Meanwhile Joanna slips on the deck and falls overboard, and is found amnetic. Her husband Grant Stayton III (Edward Herrmann) goes to the hospital and pretends he does not know Joanna to travel alone. Dean decides to use Joanna to pay her debt working for him at home and convinces her doctor that she is his wife and mother of his sons and her name would be Annie. When Annie goes home with Dean, she fells living in a nightmare. But soon she improves the lives of Dean and his sons and they respect her. Meanwhile her mother presses Grant to talk to Joanna and he decides to return to the hospital. What will happen?

“Overboard” is another jewel from the 80´s, maybe the best decade to comedies and romantic comedies. Directed by Gary Marshall, this romantic comedy has Goldie Hawn stealing the movie and showing awesome chemistry with her partner Kurt Russell. My vote is seven.

Love story of Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn

Just imagine! They met when Kurt was 16 and Goldie was 21. And only after almost 20 years, already being movie stars, they met again and never parted again! Yes, this happens even in Hollywood.

A love story that gives everyone faith in a great feeling

Russell and Hawn are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year.

How Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn met

On the set of The One and Only True Original Family Band, Russell and Hawn were budding actors, with the only difference being that Goldie is five years older than Kurt. Of course, she, a young girl, did not pay attention to the schoolboy at all. But I remember him as a charming and talented guy.

The most fun couple among Hollywood actors in their age category

One of the first joint appearances of Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn happened at the Oscars

    The second fateful meeting

The actors, already in the status of Hollywood stars, met for the second time only after 17 years. Both of them were invited to take part in auditions for roles in the film Shift Change. Then the re-acquaintance began with Kurt’s compliment to Goldie’s figure. Another in her place might consider this as rudeness, but Hawn said “thank you” and, perhaps, both immediately realized that something more than just sympathy could arise between them.

The relationship between Kurt and Goldie is as warm now as it was 40 years ago

Then she was 39 years old, she managed to get divorced twice and single-handedly raised two children: daughter Kate (today actress Kate Hudson) and son Oliver. Kurt was also divorced and lived with his son Boston.

As a result, the actors began to spend a lot of time together, not only on the set of the film, but also after work shifts. Russell, under the pretext of rehearsals, begged Hawn to see him alone. As soon as it became clear that an affair began between them, Goldie immediately introduced her boyfriend to the children. They were the main critics of Mom’s possible companion.

Kurt Russell so quickly found a common language with the son and daughter of his beloved woman that she had no doubts about the correctness of the choice. Just a couple of months later, they began to live as one family.

Kate Hudson has repeatedly stressed in interviews that Kurt Russell was her father figure and was the best parent imaginable.

Why the actors decided not to get married

It’s funny that the actors hid the romance for a long time. For the first time, they started talking about the relationship between them after the release of the cult comedy Overboard. In it, Kurt and Goldie play the main roles. According to the plot, the heroine Hawn falls overboard, loses her memory and ends up in the house of a young widower with three sons. He, in turn, convinces the girl that she is his wife and the mother of his children. Kurt and Goldie were so convincing on screen that after the movie premiere and outings, Hollywood pen sharks suspected that the two were romantically involved.

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn on the set of “Overboard”

Amazingly, the actors fell in love 17 years after they first met

In 1986, the couple had a common son, Wyatt. And as the actors later recalled, around the same time they realized that they did not want to marry. “Long-term relationships and marriage are essentially different things. This is communication and mutual desire to be together. It is difficult to keep him in a marriage for a long time, ”said Hawn. So for 40 years now they have been living without a stamp in their passport and with their happy experience they prove that, perhaps, they really don’t need it?! However, the secret of the relationship between Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn lies elsewhere.

In the photo, both smile or laugh all the time – and it does not matter that they are at the Oscar ceremony

The secret of a strong relationship between Kurt and Goldie

Kurt is sure that Goldie’s support is the foundation of their happy family. At the opening of Russell’s personal star on the Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, he said, looking at Goldie: “I owe you my whole life, everything that I have.”

But Hawn gives more specific advice on strengthening relationships. Especially when you have been together for more than a dozen years: “Be sure to get out somewhere together, laugh more, let the children go. Go and find yourself a fun activity – take a walk or rent a hotel room. Do something different for your relationship. This is how we rekindle our fire of love again and again.” Everything seems to be obvious, but how difficult it is to do it in the endless bustle. Personally, we admire this couple!

    Psychology of relationships

Kurt Russell turned 68 on March 17th. Of course, he could be proud of his creative track record, but he never does. Because the main gift of fate considers Goldie Hawn, with whom he is still in love, like a youngster.

    still from the movie “Overboard”

Kurt first met Goldie when he was only sixteen, and Goldie, a bright, blooming blonde with funny eyes, was five years older than him. This meeting passed somehow imperceptibly, without hints of a close relationship. And it took a long time for them to face each other again in unknown ways in their lives. But this time it was different. Kurt and Goldie met on the set of Shift Change directed by John Demme at 1983, not suspecting that from that moment they would never part.

still from the movie “Shift Change”

There were two unsuccessful marriages behind the fragile shoulders of the Oscar winner. And about her ex-husbands, she made an unflattering opinion. After all, each of them actually rudely robbed her during a divorce. Unhappy was the marriage and Kurt Russell. But the bitter experience of family life did not prevent the actors from starting a love affair, which continues to this day. Their feelings have not dulled at all, and they do not part with each other for a minute. It’s funny, but Kurt Russell made the first step towards him, ahead of Goldie, who was already ready to confess her sympathies to him. On Valentine’s Day, he suddenly asked her to teach him how to dance the jitterbug, although this was completely not required for the film. But smart blonde Goldie realized that this was just an excuse to develop a closer relationship.

However, at the Playboy Club, where Kurt invited her, they didn’t dance at all. They were just talking nicely, enjoying the conversation, and then Goldie unexpectedly invited him to her own new house. Opening the door from the back entrance, she, like a playful child, jumped on his back, saying the words: “How great it all is!”, which Kurt Russell still remembers with a smile. He easily got along with the children of Goldie Hawn, who became his wife.

True, they did not officially register their marriage.
