Figure, a startup that builds general-purpose humanoid robots, today announced it has received a $9 million investment from Intel Capital, Intel’s investment arm. This funding will accelerate the development of the Figure 01 humanoid robot, create an AI data pipeline for its autonomous operation, and bring the startup closer to commercialization.

Intel Capital’s investment is a notable addition to a Series A funding round that has included other investors such as Parkway Venture Capital, Brett Adcock, Aliya Capital, Bold Capital Partners, Tamarack Global, FJ labs and former KUKA Robotics CEO Till Reuter.

The Figure 01 humanoid robot entered the testing phase a few months ago and went through a series of major technical milestones under the guidance of a best-in-class engineering team. Most notably, the robot took its first steps in May, less than a year after the company was founded. This is a landmark achievement for Figure and one of the fastest results in the history of humanoid robots.

Intel Capital is at the forefront of creating big and bold frontier innovations, and we’re excited to share its vision for a better future for ,” said Brett Adcock, founder and CEO of Figure. In addition, he expressed his hope that the investment, together with the resources and experience of the Intel team, will help accelerate the growth and success of his startup.

The fundamental difference between Figure 01 and most similar robots is the AI-based control algorithms. Over time, they allow the robot to learn and improve its functions, making it more versatile. It is expected that in the future this will allow Figure 01 to move from basic tasks, such as lifting and carrying loads, to more complex ones. Such a robot will be able to perform labor-intensive work that is inaccessible to humans.

“Intel Capital’s is constantly looking for companies that push the boundaries of innovation, and we believe Figure has the potential to change the way the world thinks about AI,” said Mark Lydon, managing director of Intel Capital. “ Figure’s focus on the development of the labor economy is an important part of our future, and we hope to be at the forefront of supporting the development of humanoid robots.”

Startup Figure, supported by Intel Capital, makes a significant contribution to the development of robotics and AI. Their interaction provides new opportunities for the development and commercialization of breakthrough technologies. Despite the complexity and ambition of this project, the support from Intel Capital helps to ensure its sustainable development and progress in this area.
