an easy way for an accountant to get into IT and earn more

A tester is one of the new professions in the IT field, which attracts the attention of those who want to get a specialty that is in demand on the labor market.

Online schools promise that in just a few months you can master the basic skills and tools, and then successfully get a job in a prestigious company and start earning. Another statement is that anyone at any age can become a tester, even someone who is good at mathematics and does not know any programming language.

Action Digital School experts collected the most frequently asked questions by our future students and addressed them to a real professional in the profession, Vasily Kirnos.

Tell us who testers are and what they do.

A tester is a person who checks whether the developed application or program meets the user’s expectations. If suddenly during the test the tester notices that something is not working as intended, he makes an error report, in the language of the tester, this means “start a bug report”.

Bug report is a fairly simple and understandable document. It prescribes the problem, and also indicates what the expected result of the check was, and what happened during the check.

A simple example, a company has set up a new website to sell its products. And before entering it, the user needs to register there. That is, enter your data in the field: login and password, and click the “login” button. So the task of the tester is to check whether everything is working correctly. For example, he sees that there are data entry fields, but no buttons.

Find out more about the professions you can learn in the webinars that take place at to our telegram channel Action Digital School l. In it, we not only communicate, but also share useful cards, checklists and guides on how to restart your career. Subscribe!

Which companies need testers, in which areas they are more in demand

In fact, all companies need testers, because when creating a website or program, any employee, be it a developer, designer or designer, can make a mistake. In this case, the user will receive a bad or “raw” product.

A simple example, the company decided to transfer to 1C not only accounting, but also the personnel department. A special configuration was installed for this task, but the manager understands that the data is displayed incorrectly.

In this case, you can involve a tester with knowledge of the 1C platform, who, according to the test case, that is, the instructions, checks this configuration as a user. Further, all identified errors are fixed in a bug report.

Reference:

✓ Test cases ( instructions for testing ) – documents that contain detailed requirements for the order of actions performed and the results of testing a software product.

test plans — documents describing the entire scope of testing work: description of the object, strategy, schedule, start criteria, end of testing, necessary equipment, special knowledge, etc.

What categories testers are divided into by experience and complexity of work

All testers can be conditionally divided into 2 large groups – these are manual testers and automated testers . The former check user scripts manually, while automators write small programs for verification, that is, they automate this routine process.

If we are talking about beginners in the profession, then after the course you will be able to work as a manual tester. But, if you have a desire to develop further in the profession, then you can master a programming language like Python and improve your category.

If we talk about the status of a test engineer, here, as in any IT field, specialists can be conditionally divided into junior, that is, beginners, middle, that is, advanced, and senior, the highest category.

A novice tester performs simple tasks, works according to a ready-made plan. After he masters the basics, which is about six months, he becomes a middle, that is, a specialist.

Midly already knows how to optimize work, develops methods for this or uses additional tools. A tester in senior status thoroughly knows all the nuances of the work and can pass on his experience to beginners.

You can get a prestigious profession at Action Digital School on the Tester course. You will dive into the world of debugging websites and applications using modern programming languages. Start applying the acquired knowledge in practice from the first lesson and become an expert in your field in 3 months.

What skills should a person who wants to do testing have?

Among the technical skills are possession of the console in the browser in Google Chrome, knowledge of the command line of popular operating systems, the ability to use Postman, Charles tools.

Help:

Postman is an application for creating, testing, documenting, publishing and maintaining APIs

Charles is a traffic analysis tool. It is usually used when testing mobile applications to understand how the phone communicates with the service and what requests it sends.

Among the flexible, I consider attentiveness and “a sense of beauty” to be important. What does it mean? So you open the site, look at it, click on the buttons, go through the tabs and you can say whether it’s beautiful or not.

For example, you open the catalog of an online store selling refrigerators, and there different refrigerator models are photographed from different angles. Is it nice and comfortable? I doubt.

In addition, a tester very often has to communicate with colleagues, so he must be sociable, but also convincing and assertive, otherwise no one will listen to his opinion.

What skills and experience can an accountant use to become a sought-after tester

An accountant is a specialist who knows the specifics of his work, the company’s financial scenarios, and works with the 1C platform. This means that all the professional skills acquired over the years of work, he can use in a new profession.

For example, it is precisely such specialists who have received the additional profession of a tester that companies attract to check the correct operation of the new 1C configuration.

What are the pros and cons of being a tester?

Like any profession, being a tester has both pros and cons. But there are many more pros in my opinion.

For example, if you lack communication in your life, and you are tired of constant reports and filling out paperwork, then the tester profession will fix this. After all, you will have to constantly communicate with managers, developers, customers, and so on.

The second huge and indisputable plus is that you can work from anywhere in the world, all you need is a good internet connection and a laptop. For example, the company I work for is located in St. Petersburg, while I myself live in Yaroslavl.

But, like in any company, testers have their hands full. You are strongly tied to the work of developers. It happens that the deadlines are burning – the developers have just made the functionality, and tomorrow it already needs to be given to the client and you have to go out at night to check. Such cases do occur, but are extremely rare. Although who am I telling this to, those who work with reports until late?

How much testers earn and whether it depends on the region where the person lives

Salaries certainly depend on the region and the company. But they are higher if you have experience in some professional field behind you. For example, you know accounting very well, or you understand the functionality of the 1C platform.
