Nintendo’s Mario Day Switch console is pretty baffling

Rumours about a special edition Nintendo Switch console for Mario Day on March 10 have been doing the rounds for a while, and this week they were finally confirmed. But while we weren’t holding our breath for an upgraded version of the console, the announced has still managed to majorly disappoint Nintendo fans.

That this wasn’t the much-rumoured Switch Pro (or Switch 2) was no surprise – that’s rumoured to be arriving at the end of this year. But we at least expected a new colourway for the OLED version of the Switch. Instead, we’re getting a standard Switch that’s slightly less Mario-ified than 2021’s special edition. Really, Nintendo? The special Mario bundle includes a standard Switch with red joy-cons and a download code for one of three Mario games; Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, or New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe. It’s retailing for $299.99 – which, as many are complaining about on Twitter, feels particularly high for the basic, non-OLED Switch.

And to add insult to injury, Nintendo dropped a Mario Switch two years ago that featured a stronger Mario-themed design. This new version features red Joy-Cons, but grey everything else. 2020’s edition at least included a red console and dock, along with a blue controller adapter. And even that wasn’t Mario enough for some.

The new Nintendo Switch Mario Red and Blue console is now available to pre-order

Nintendo has unveiled a new Nintendo Switch Mario Red and Blue Edition console, and it’s as fetching as you might expect.

The special edition hardware will be available at select retailers on February 12, and will be sold for a suggested retail price of $299.99 (£279.99/AU$399). While no games are included, you do get a snazzy carrying case to protect your console while you’re on the move. 

Strangely, the console itself is actually exclusively red, with black face buttons. The Nintendo Switch dock is also red, with the blue element only being found on one side of the carrying case, on the Joy-Con controller straps, and when using the Joy-Con Grip.

Still, this is another attractive special edition Nintendo Switch console, and it joins the likes of the Animal Crossing: New Horizons console and Fortnite Switch bundle, both of which were in high demand during Black Friday 2020.

It’s available to pre-order from the Nintendo Store for £279.99 in the UK, with various bundles available.

It’s-a him again

The new console ties in with Nintendo’s ongoing Super Mario Bros. 35th anniversary celebrations, which have seen the company release Super Mario 3D All-Stars. That collection includes Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy, but it’s only available until March 31st.  

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, a re-release of the Wii U game with additional content, continues the plumbing hero’s anniversary shindig, and you can check out a new trailer below. The game arrives on Nintendo Switch on February 12, the same day as the new Nintendo Switch Mario Red and Blue console.

Nintendo Switch continues to be one of the most popular devices, and with games such as Breath of the Wild 2 (Tears of the Kingdom) and Metroid Prime 4 still to come, there’s plenty of life left in Nintendo’s hybrid console. 

But will we see a Nintendo Switch 2 now that the PS5 and Xbox Series X are here? Nintendo is pretty good at keeping things under wraps, but we’ll be on the look out for any new details.

New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe

New Super Mario Bros. Series is a legacy Classic Mario Platformer . In this case, it’s , a port of straight out of a game that came out on the Wii U in 2012. The expansion was added to the original game. The new Super Luigi U and Toadette have also been added as a playable character.

Super Mario Maker 2

The Mario game, which allows you to create your own Mario games, was released for the second time in 2019 for Nintendo Switch. This is an evolution of from the original Super Mario Maker for Wii U. Among its innovations, the ability to create scenarios in 2.5D perspective is exactly the same as in Super Mario 3D World. New objects and more variety are also included to avoid monotony in scenarios.

Super Mario 3D World (+ Bowser’s Rage)

The Switch catalog is full of games that never made it to success due to the failure of the Wii U. Super Mario 3D World was released for the Wii U in 2013. Bowser’s Fury was added to the Switch as pack . This open world mode was heavily influenced by what was previously seen in Super Mario Sunshine.

Super Mario Odyssey

Odyssey is the latest game in super mario 3d line like Mario 64 or Mario Galaxy. It also brought back the open world aspect that was completely lost in Super Mario Galaxy 2. Designed by Intelligent Systems, the original team of Paper Mario, this piece of Paper Mario adheres to the RPG concept we’ve seen in some previous generations, like in Paper Mario and the Millennial Door.

In this part, King Ollie kidnaps Peach and takes control of Bowser’s army to turn the paper world into origami. Our sworn enemy Bowser will fight with us throughout the adventure to thwart the plans of the villain.

Mario Tennis Aces

It was produced by Camelot Software Planning. This is a typical Mario game of tennis, absolutely chaotic, with hitting techniques and movements that are completely different depending on the character we have chosen and the several game modes in which he can participate. up to 4 players at the same time.

Mario and the Bunnies: Kingdom Battle

The new part of this game could not be missing on the Nintendo Switch. Crossovers between Mario and Rayman’s rabbits.

This is RPG with exploration and turn based combat. It was released in 2017, but the new part of this game is planned for 2022 and will be called Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope .

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Super Mario 3D All Stars
