Designed to meet the needs of a noisy household, the 7.3 cubic foot Maytag MED6630 Electric Dryer won’t mess around. The machine easily copes with various loads and looks good at the same time.

Not your average Maytag
The
Electric Slate Dryer (also available in white) is one of the most stylish models we’ve seen from Maytag. Initially, we thought it might be a Samsung or LG dryer. The 7.3 cubic foot machine is spacious and large, measuring 38.75 x 27 x 30.75 inches (H x W x D), making it perfect for homes with lots of laundry.
The accompanying Maytag MHW6630HC0 washing machine is similarly sized and heavy duty.
You will never injure your back by taking clothes out of the machine when they are lying on the washing pedestal. As an added option, the pedestals will set you back around $300 each, depending on which one you choose.
This Maytag dryer handles heavy duvets with ease.
The dark gray tint of the plastic front door gives the car a modern look. However, we found it so dark that it’s hard to see what’s going on inside the car, and it doesn’t have interior lighting.
If you have small children or pets that climb into things, you will appreciate the control lock that can be set when drying clothes. To unlock the setting, you will need to hold the button down and watch the display count down to three. When you sit on the stand, the machine buttons are too high for small children to reach.
Intuitive display panel
As expected from a model in this price range, there are a fair number of drying functions. We really appreciated that it was pretty easy to get to grips with the controls.
To the left of the panel is a knob for controlling the various drying settings: Normal, Heavy Duty, White, Sanitize, Towels, Bulky, Quick Dry, Delicatessen, Anti-Wrinkle, Steam Refresh, Normal, and Dry Time.
The digital pad on the right has settings for temperature adjustment, dryness, wrinkle prevention, more time, less time, and control lock. The first three parameters use bars to indicate low and high values for each. The latter option is ideal for people who forget to switch their load to the dryer in time.
There are several other noteworthy features that make this dryer stand out from others. The Extra Power button does exactly what it says. This speeds up drying in any cycle by increasing time, temperature and turning. Advanced Moisture Sensing automatically monitors the humidity and temperature of the air inside the machine, allowing you to dry the clothes inside more evenly. Finally, the quick dry cycle is ideal for drying small loads quickly.
There is also a steam mode (you do not need additional plumbing).
In our tests, it performed great and helped a little with wrinkles. However, as is the case with many of these steam options, it does not replace an iron.
The
Metal Slate Dryer is one of the most stylish models we’ve seen from Maytag.
After you download the clothes, you need to first press the power button (it has a play button icon) to select the settings. If you need extra washing power, just press the button on the main dial labeled Extra Power. Each press increases the cycle time, and the idea is that Extra Power speeds up the fight against stains.
The digital display shows the details of the current cycle with the corresponding icons highlighted and the estimated time it will take to complete the download. It should be noted that many cycles on this machine last over an hour, and if you keep adding tweaks and extra power, it can take quite a long time to complete the download.
Drying power plant
We’ve been using both Maytag machines for several months on a variety of items and have been very satisfied.
However, we must note that the cycle did not always end when expected – sometimes it lasted longer, and sometimes it shortened.
To test this, we made two loads of different items, including delicate fabrics, blankets and wrinkle-prone materials. For quilts, we used the Heavy Duty setting, set the temperature to medium, and added an anti-crease option. We pressed the play button (also known as the start button) and saw the digital display count down 3, 2, 1.
In general, the duvets came out dry and in sufficient time. Our Maytag quick wash cycle dries quickly in the quick dry cycle on the Maytag dryer. While we appreciate the anti-wrinkle and steam features, as noted, they are not a replacement for an iron or handheld steamer.
Warranty Information
This Maytag dryer is backed by a one-year limited warranty covering parts and labor. There is an optional second to ten year limited warranty that covers the drum motor and stainless steel or powder coated drum only.
