Micro sd card for samsung phones: MicroSD cards and your Galaxy phone or tablet

MicroSD cards and your Galaxy phone or tablet

Running out of room on your phone or tablet? If you have a microSD card in your device, it lets you expand memory space and exchange pictures, music, or data with microSD compatible devices. It’s a must for that catalog of pictures or songs you’ve accumulated over the years.

Note: Available screens and settings may vary by wireless service provider and software version. Samsung Android phones do not support the Adoptable storage feature.

Unless you are a tech wizard, you probably aren’t aware that microSD cards come in multiple classes. Other than storage capacity, there are different factors that separate them. Some also come with extra features that give them distinct classifications.

While you can use any class of microSD cards in your phone or tablet, the microSDXC card is recommended for high-resolution video recording, due to its large storage capacity and high-speed read and write capability. For less demanding use, such as still photography, regular microSD or microSDHC cards will be sufficient.

Note: Not all phone or tablet models support microSD cards. On these models, there will only be a slot for the SIM card.

MicroSD cards give you tons of space on your phone or tablet, but they are really tiny. Just be careful not to drop or lose the microSD card.

  1. Insert the ejector tool (which comes with your phone or tablet) into the hole in the SIM and microSD card tray on the top of your phone or tablet. If you have any issues removing or inserting the SIM card tray, service may be necessary. If you need a replacement SIM ejector tool, you may be able to get one from your carrier or an electronics retailer.

Important: Be careful not to insert the ejector tool into any of the microphone or speaker holes along the edge of your device. Look for the outline of the tray to make sure you’re in the right place.

  2.  When the tray pops out, pull it out of the phone or tablet.

  3. Carefully place the microSD card into the larger opening in the tray – the SIM card slot is the lower, smaller opening. Then, reinsert the tray into the device.

  4. If you have trouble getting the SIM and SD card tray out or it becomes damaged, service may be necessary.

Changing out the microSD card on your XCover6 Pro is different from other phone models.

  1. Turn your phone off, remove the phone’s back cover, and then remove the battery by lifting it up from the bottom.

  2. Insert the microSD card in its designated slot.

Note: This slot is right on top of the SIM card slot.

  3. Then, replace the battery by sliding it into its slot. Replace the back cover and make sure it snaps into place.

  4. To remove the microSD card, first remove the phone’s back cover and then the battery.

  5. Remove the microSD card from its slot. Then, replace the battery and the back cover.

Just insert your microSD card and you can begin transferring your files. You can also use the options in Device care to help clear space.

  1. With your microSD card inserted, navigate to and open the My Files app.

  2. Find the file(s) you want to move, and then touch and hold the file(s).

  3. Tap Move or Copy at the bottom of the screen, and then navigate back to the My Files Home page.

  4. Tap SD card – this will only show up if you have a SD card inserted. Navigate to the folder where you’d like to place the files.

  5. Tap Move here or Copy here and the files will be placed on the SD card.

Note: You can only move or copy files this way in the My Files app. You cannot move or copy files to other apps, such as Gallery.

Note: Many apps are not eligible to be moved to the microSD card.

Before you relocate an app to a new storage location, make sure you have a microSD card inserted. Otherwise, your apps will have nowhere to go.  If you do not see the Change option available, then you can’t change the app’s storage location. For example, preloaded apps cannot be moved.

  1. Navigate to Settings, and then tap Apps.

  2. Swipe to and select the app you want to move.

  3. Tap Storage, and then tap Change. If Change does not appear, this app cannot be moved.

  4. Choose SD card, and then tap Move to change the app’s storage location.

  5. If needed, follow the on-screen instructions to complete the move.

Important: If your phone or tablet is factory reset when the microSD card encrypted, it will no longer be able to read the microSD card. Decrypt the SD card before resetting or using it with another device.

If you use removable storage on your phone or tablet, you can protect your files by encrypting the SD card. Encryption converts data from a readable form to an encoded version that can only be read on the device that was used to encrypt it. Even though it sounds high-tech, it’s easy to encrypt files stored on your memory card on a Galaxy device.

  1. Connect your device to its charger. The process of encrypting or decrypting is CPU intensive and can drain the battery quickly.

  2. Open Settings, and then search for and select Encrypt SD card or Decrypt SD card.

  3. Tap Encrypt SD card or Decrypt SD card.

  4. If you have a lock screen set up, you will be required to enter your credentials before your device encrypts the files stored on the memory card.

  5. Your device will begin the process of encrypting or decrypting your SD card. This can take several minutes to complete, depending on the size of your SD card, and the amount of data stored on it.

Need to remove the microSD card from your phone or tablet so you can upgrade? No worries, we’ll walk you through it. Remember, you must unmount the microSD card before removing it.

  1. Navigate to and open Settings.

  2. Tap Battery and device care, and then tap Storage.

  3. Tap More options (the three vertical dots), and then tap Storage settings.

  4. Tap Unmount, and then insert the ejector tool into the hole in the SIM and microSD card tray on the top of your phone or tablet.

  5. When the tray pops out, pull it out of the phone or tablet.

  6. Remove the microSD card from the tray, and then insert the tray back into the device.

  7. If you have trouble getting the SIM and SD card tray out or it becomes damaged, service may be necessary.

Does the Samsung Galaxy S22 series have a microSD card slot?

By

João Carrasqueira

Want more storage for your phone? The Samsung Galaxy S22 series doesn’t support microSD cards, but you can try other solutions.

Over the past few years, microSD cards have been slowly but surely disappearing from premium smartphones. As phones get thinner and more compact, there’s no longer space for microSD cards, and you have to rely on internal storage. If you’re wondering whether the Samsung Galaxy S22 series bucks that trend, we have the answer: It doesn’t. And at this stage, you should stop holding your breath for a comeback.

The Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22 Plus, and Galaxy S22 Ultra all come without support for microSD cards. There’s a SIM card slot, which often doubles as a microSD card slot in some phones, but not in these models. Instead, you get up to 256GB of storage in the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus, and up to 1TB on the Galaxy S22 Ultra. If you want to see everything that’s included in the box, check out our unboxing for each of the models:

  • Also, check out the available colors on the Galaxy S22 series

Why is there no microSD card slot on the Galaxy S22?

One of the reasons microSD card slots aren’t included in a lot of premium phones is because microSD cards tend to be a lot slower than the internal storage of a smartphone. That was the reason Samsung provided when it first removed microSD card support in the Galaxy S6 back in 2015. While there are standards for high-speed microSD cards, particularly with SD Express, SD cards with these speeds are very rare and incredibly expensive. Most common microSD cards offer maximum bus speeds of around 100MB/s, which is a big step down from the 2900MB/s of bandwidth in UFS 3.1, which is the storage standard used in the Galaxy S22 series.

Of course, another reason for this is that companies would rather have you pay a premium to upgrade to a higher storage configuration, so they get more money from you directly. If you want more storage, you have to pay more for a higher storage configuration.

Finally, there’s also the matter of physical space. Companies simultaneously try to cram as many new features as possible into a phone while also trying to keep phones as slim as possible, so some sacrifices have to be made. The space that would be used by a microSD card can be used for a slightly larger battery, more camera sensors, and other hardware.

How can I get more storage without a microSD card?

The first and most obvious way to get more space for files on your phone is to buy a configuration with more storage space. 128GB isn’t a whole lot, but if you upgrade to the 256GB model, you should have a solid amount of space. And in the case of the 512GB or 1TB versions of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, it’s fair to say most users will never use up that much space.

If you use a lot of space for storing photos and videos, another good option is resorting to cloud storage. There are plenty of cloud services that offer automatic photo backups on Android, including Google Photos, OneDrive, and many others. These are usually paid services (if you want more than a few gigabytes, at least), but in addition to saving space on your internal storage, they let you easily access your files from any device so you don’t have to worry about copying them over from your phone to your PC.

Finally, you can buy a USB Type-C flash drive, if you want a physical storage device. The Samsung Galaxy S22 series and most modern Android phones support USB-C flash drives, which you can use to store documents, photos, and more. You can also use it to move files to another phone or a PC. Samsung itself makes some of these, like the Duo Plus flash drive.

Five microSD cards ideal for use with the Samsung Galaxy S7

Now that microSD card compatibility has returned to Samsung’s high-end terminals, it’s time to take a look at some of the recommended models for use with them. Samsung Galaxy S7 that we are talking about. We’ve selected five accessories that, in terms of capacity and price, we think are the most suitable for taking advantage of the Korean company’s new phone (and other Android phones on the market).

The maximum capacity of microSD cards that can be used with the Samsung Galaxy S7 is 200 GB , which is not bad at all and makes this device a model that has very few storage restrictions, be it documents or multimedia files. In truth, there aren’t many products that offer this option, so the vast majority of the ones we’ve chosen come with 128GB, which isn’t bad either and offers a very interesting value for money.

For complete convenience, all microSD cards we offer are available at Amazon , where if you have a premium user, you can get them at a more adjusted price than the original one – by saving on postage. The thing is, with all the models chosen, quite a lot of extra space can be provided in a model like the Samsung we discussed and some others like the most famous HTC model.

First of all we leave the microSD card, which allows you to take full advantage of the compatibility of the Samsung Galaxy S7, since its memory capacity is 200 GB. The model is Clase 10 , so the speed at which it transfers data is up to 80 MB / s, which is not bad at all. It includes an adapter for reading and allows you to record videos in Full HD without quality loss. Its price is 131.83 euros.

Samsung EVO MB-MP128DA / EU

This is a Korean company’s own model that we think is better value for money for use with their new high quality model. It’s also a class 10 adapter that offers really great resistance (even to x-rays so you won’t have problems at airports). It is able to withstand the moisture and water of the and, as usual, it includes a reader adapter for the SD slots. It costs 44.69euro and is 128 GB.

Kingston SDC10G2 / 128 GB

A model that has one of the main advantages in terms of security. An example of what we’re talking about is the durability of the data stored inside and even the extra plastic layer to keep it from getting damaged. Thus, you are always sure that there will be no problems with data loss. It’s a class 10 microSD card, so it’s perfect for the Samsung Galaxy S7. It can be bought for 50.29Euro.

Toshiba EXCERIA M301

Another model 128 GB capacity, so it does not take full advantage of Samsung Galaxy S7, but also not far behind. Weighing just five grams, this model offers a minimum operating speed of 10MB/s, which is why we’re talking about a Class 10 accessory. UHS-I compliant, this model costs €46.15 on Amazon.

Transcend MXTFSD128GBC10

An interesting model with stable transmission 45 Mb/s which is not bad at all. It has 128 GB of free space inside and is compatible with devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and other mobile devices, including digital cameras. It includes an SD adapter and provides a high level of security for stored data. Its price is 57.83 euros.

How to install SD card on Samsung Galaxy A03

One of the main advantages of the Samsung Galaxy A03 smartphone is the support for MicroSD memory cards. This feature allows you to expand the internal storage using an external drive. Installing an SD card on the Samsung Galaxy A03 is quite simple, but some users still have difficulties. In addition, it is important not only to install the card, but also to configure it.

    Inserting a memory card

Due to the fact that the MicroSD card is very small and the Samsung Galaxy A03 does not show the presence of a connector, it can be difficult to find the location of the drive. Therefore, it is recommended to follow the instructions:

    1. Inspect the body of the device and find the tray. As a rule, it can be identified by a small hole located nearby (just do not confuse it with a microphone). Also, the tray stands out a little with its edges.
    2. The Samsung Galaxy A03 comes with a special paper clip to remove the tray. See if it was lying around in a smartphone box. If not, you can use a needle of the appropriate diameter. Insert the paperclip into the hole until it clicks into place.
    3. The slot will pop out at the same time as the click. It automatically extends only 10-20%. Next, you need to pull it to completely remove it.
    4. Inspect the tray. It must have a special area for installing a microSD card. As a rule, it is slightly larger than the SIM platform.
    5. Place the memory card on it with the chip facing downwards according to the design of the tray.
    6. Insert the tray until it clicks into place.

After following these steps, the Samsung Galaxy A03 should display a notification to install an external drive. Do not rush to start using it, as it is also necessary to carry out preparatory steps.

    Steps to take before use

Although the memory card is ready for use after insertion, it is recommended that you format it before use. The operation is performed according to the following instructions:

    1. Open Android settings.
    2. Go to the “Storage” section.
    3. Select the SD card you are using.
    4. Click on the “Format” button and confirm the action.

Please note that formatting will erase all data from the card. Therefore, do not fill up the external drive before use.

    Troubleshooting

Although it is not difficult to install a memory card on the Samsung Galaxy A03, various problems may arise during its operation. The main one is that the phone does not see the SD card. There can be two reasons for what happened:

    • you have installed a larger memory card than the smartphone supports;
    • drive is defective.

In both cases there is practically no chance of correcting the situation. But some actions are still worth taking. First, visit the manufacturer’s website to find out what memory cards the Samsung Galaxy A03 supports.
