Show seasonal allergies who’s boss

Review of inexpensive mini-projector ProGaga GA9 (720p) with Wi-Fi on board / Projectors, TV, TV boxes and set-top boxes / iXBT Live
I continue to review budget LED projectors, this time one of the inexpensive models with Wi-Fi connection – ProGaga GA9 mini-projector.
The projector has the ability to display the screen of smartphones and connect to Wi-Fi networks. The projected resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels, but it works (compatible) with FullHD video stream as well. I also note the possibility of working with USB-drives, as well as the presence of the ScreenMirroring (MiraCast) function. The projector will be interesting for undemanding users to watch movies on a big screen, suitable for children – for watching cartoons and learning, as well as for playing games as an alternative to a monitor or TV.
MINI-PROJECTOR ProGaga-GA9 (720p) IN THE OFFICIAL STORE ON ALIEXPRESS
Android models with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth on board have recently become available. One of these is the ProGaga GA9, a compact budget-class movie projector. My model is equipped with the ability to connect to wireless Wi-Fi networks and transmit images using the ScreenMirroring (MiraCast) function. Other projectors in the article about the choice of models, including FullHD projectors (budget).
Depending on the purpose (family movie viewing, dynamic games, study and business presentations, cartoons, etc.), you can choose a projector for your needs, there are even very cheap options, for example, the ThunDeal TD860 mini projector for $50.

Comes in a small carton box, the inside of the projector is sealed in a special blown box.
I took from the stock in the MSC, delivered quickly enough.
The ProGaga GA9 projector package includes: power cable, AV adapter, instructions, protective cover, remote control.
The top panel of the projector has a button block that duplicates the functions of the remote control. It is also possible to adjust not only the focus parameters, but also the projection parameters (trapezoid).
A small plastic cover is provided to protect the projector.
Close the lid during storage/downtime, remove it for work. If necessary, wipe the lens itself with a lint-free cloth.
It is possible to adjust the focus/magnification. On the left side there are connectors for connecting devices.
On the front panel there is a receiving “window” for the operation of the IR remote control.
The right side panel has a socket for the power cord.
Rear audio speaker output.
Stands and a sticker with the model name are located on the bottom of the case.
Rubberized stands, adjustable height (tilt) of the projector.
The keypad duplicates the remote control, you can control all the necessary functions of the projector. Nearby is an indicator of operation.
I will focus on the projector connection interfaces. There are two USB sockets for storage, HDMI input, D-SUB (VGA) input, AV input, and a 3.5 mm headphone or external speaker output.
The projector is powered from the mains, the cord is standard (without grounding).
To connect sources with RCA (“tulips”), a special adapter from the kit (AV-3.5 mm) is used.
The highest quality picture is obtained when working from digital signal sources – via an HDMI cable.
Separately, I tried to work with gadgets that support video output via USB-C (you will need a USB-C to HDMI adapter). Examples of such adapters are in a separate article (Baseus review), but in general you can read about the Mobile Office technology here.
The projector reads USB drives and can play not only video files, but also photos and music.
Included remote control – simple, with additional functions (for example, the ability to zoom).
Powered by a pair of AAA elements (“pinky”, not included). I use handy Sorbo lithium batteries.
English manual, describes the basic functionality of the projector.
Also, a detailed description of the connection via ScreenMirroring (MiraCast) for various devices is also given separately.
There is a 1/4″ threaded hole near the center stand of the projector for installing the projector.
You can use a photo tripod, or a special ceiling or wall mount if the projector is used permanently.
For sizing, I’m using my old Benq W1070 DLP projector.
The Benq W1070 projector is a device of a completely different class and different cost. True, and the image from it is noticeably better (FullHD). True, the Benq W1070 does not have the ability to play from USB drives, in this respect the ProGaga GA9 looks much more modern.
When power is supplied to the ProGaga GA9, the red LED lights up (standby).
Press the power button, the projector is testing the lamp, the green light turns on.
Lamp on, video signal required.
The projector is ready to go. The only thing you need to consider is the distance for focusing – this is from 2 meters (approximately) and up to 3.5 meters.
For home movie screening, I recommend buying a special projector screen. This is a fabric with a reflective coating, and the effect is better than from a simple “sheet”.
Slightly adjust the trapezoid so that when displayed from above or below the picture is rectangular. This is the “wheel” in the second row of the projector.
You can tilt (skew) the image until you get an acceptable result.
The projector’s start menu allows you to quickly select the video source (HDMI/USB/VGA/MiraCast/WireCast). You can activate the desired function both from the remote control and from the buttons on the panel.
You can play both video files, audio files, and photos in USB playback mode.
I turn to checking the quality of the image display. I’m running a test image.
Lines are even, blurring is not visible.

This picture is useful for adjusting the focus and trapezoid. Next, we move on to the color test.

Not bad, especially for a projector like this.
Intense green.
After a small TV (the relatively small 40″), movies and videos on a large 100″ screen are quite impressive.
The kids will love it too.
Animation on a projector with a 720p matrix is displayed quite tolerably. The same goes for youtube videos.
The projector handles dynamic scenes well.
I also note that no obvious pixelation is visible, including at high magnification.
In the photo below, you can see the texture of the screen material (PVC-coated fabric) at high magnification, but there are no huge pixels, as in models of 320×240 pixels.
You can remember your youth and run filmstrips on the projector. Yes, yes, the very ones.
I will pay attention to the settings menu, which can be called up with the “M” button from the panel, or “MENU” from the remote control.
Picture, sound, projection, basic settings (including reset) are available.
By the way, the projector is Russified. You can select Russian in the menu.
You can connect the projector to your home network. Actual for Android models.
When the MiraCast connection function is activated, the projector turns on the hotspot.
The picture waiting to connect to the projector appears.
We look for it on a smartphone or tablet and connect. We put the gadget into screen mirroring mode.
The function works, you can run multimedia content, games and so on.
Due to the small font, surfing is not very comfortable (fine print is obtained).
