To say that I’m a wine enthusiast would be an understatement. While I’m no master sommelier, my deep love affair with the grape started early, when a life-changing semester in Europe (cliché, I know) taught me just how good a bottle of vino can be.
So, imagine my unadulterated excitement when I was tasked with reviewing the Oster Cordless Electric Wine Bottle Opener, an electric corkscrew with more than 18,000 reviews on Amazon! As if I needed an excuse to buy more wine… Here’s what happened when I took it for a spin.
What is the Oster Cordless Electric Wine Bottle Opener?

Using the Oster Cordless Electric Wine Bottle Opener is quick and efficient.
The Oster Cordless Electric Wine Opener is a rechargeable bottle opener that removes corks in a matter of seconds with a touch of a button. According to Oster, this electric bottle opener boasts a “sleek, sophisticated design,” and can open up to 30 bottles of wine on a single charge. It comes with three main components: the wine opener, a foil cutter, and a recharging base.
How does it work?
Operating this electric wine opener is actually pretty simple. Just remove any foil from the bottle using the foil cutter, hold the device over the top of the bottle, and press the down button on the switch.
The electric wine opener will spring into action, removing the cork and stopping automatically when done. The whole process takes less than 20 seconds, making it much quicker than tussling with a stubborn winged corkscrew or a flimsy wine key. To retrieve your cork, simply press the up button on the switch and wait for the cork to pop out.
What we like about it

Oster
All you have to do before using this electric opener is remove the foil seal, if present.
The Oster Electric Wine Bottle Opener does exactly what it says it does—opens wine bottles fast and with minimal hassle. (I didn’t get a chance to try it out on 30 bottles of wine, but it got my three open without struggle or complaint.)
This user-friendly appliance gets the job done quickly and efficiently. The simple design leaves very little room for operational errors, and at a $20 price point, it’s one of the most affordable rechargeable bottle openers on the market. It’s an effective product that gives you a decent bang for your buck.
I had the pleasure of reviewing this product with my mom, a fellow wine lover, who was initially skeptical of the product. She lamented the need to remove the foil first, being partial to a one step through-the-foil wine opening method herself. But after seeing the Oster Electric Wine Bottle Opener in action, she could do nothing but sing its praises to my sisters over the phone, so this product is officially suburban mom approved.
What we don’t like about it
I was a tad more nitpicky when it came to deciding just how much I liked the product. My first concern was how much space it takes up, as it’s recommended to keep this electric opener on the charging base when not in use. As a New Yorker, counter space is at a premium in my apartment, and I wouldn’t be able to justify dedicating 5-and-a-half square inches of countertop for a bottle opener when I can toss my wine key in the silverware drawer.
Another drawback for me was the overall aesthetic of the appliance. The “sleek, sophisticated” design is a tad retro-futuristic, and with a bulbous red indicator light atop the machine, it looks like something out of an old sci-fi film.
When I showed it to my sisters, one thought it was an immersion blender, and the other thought it was a personal massager. Many similar products on the market feature a clear window at the bottom of the device through which you can see the actual corkscrew mechanism, perhaps so that nobody mistakes their wine opener for, well, something else.
Should you buy it?
Is the Oster Cordless Electric Wine Bottle Opener a must-buy appliance that will revolutionize how you drink wine? No. However, it’s a pretty cool product that would make an excellent gift for any kitchen gadget collector or serious wine lover in your life. This electric wine opener could also be incredibly useful for any wine drinkers who struggle with traditional corkscrews due to a limited range of motion in their hands.

While most wine experts opt for the traditional waiter’s friend corkscrew when opening a bottle of wine, gadgets like electric wine openers can serve a great purpose, too. It may seem like an unnecessary purchase, but Michele Thomas, a Brooklyn-based sommelier and writer, has some good insights. “For those with mobility issues or an injury, an electric opener is a fantastic option.” She adds, “They can also be great for parties.”
When looking for an electric wine opener, Thomas has a few tips: “For me, the key to picking the right electric opener is about design. Is it lightweight? Is it loud? How many bottles can be opened with a single charge? Is the worm stainless steel or coated for smooth insertion?” According to Thomas, cordless models are generally the best-looking and easiest to use. There’s also the cost, too.
One thing to be aware of is that electric openers can increase the likelihood that corks on older bottles will break. So you might want to reserve your traditional manual opener for those bottles.

Well designed

Easy to use

Reliable
Secura’s rechargeable electric wine opener is a workhorse and a beautifully designed one at that. It’s sturdy with a futuristic design. Available in various metal finishes (from Champagne gold to blue) with different LED light options, this device is reliable and easy to use. It’s also a great piece to keep on display, though it can also be easily stored.
You can open up to 30 bottles on a full charge, and it’s fairly speedy, too. The cork glided out of the bottle very quickly, and the entire process (both cork removal from the bottle and from the device itself) took only 18 seconds and was one of the fastest openers we tested. (Bonus: The see-through compartment is a unique design feature; it both lights up while charging and allows the user to see the cork as it’s removed from the bottle.)
We did notice, however, that it did chew up the cork a bit but removed it mostly intact. If anything goes wrong, you’re covered under a warranty for the first year.

Form and function meet in Oster’s cordless electric wine opener, which is made from sleek brushed metal and black plastic. Designed to work with any cork (synthetic or natural), this opener comes with a recharging base and a foil cutter, all at a reasonable price point.
The Oster opener benefits from its soft plastic sleeve, which gives it extra ergonomic value and makes it comfortable to use. The shape of the opener fits nicely onto any wine bottle, and the control switch is easy to reach and manipulate, although just a heads up that it’s not explicitly labeled, and the little “up” and “down” arrows on it are hard to see.
You can open up to 30 bottles on a single charge with this device: simply place it on the neck of any standard 750-milliliter bottle, hold it firmly in place, and press the button. Press again to release the cork from the worm after removal from the bottle. The cork retrieval at the end of the wine-opening process does slow things down a bit, but from start to finish, you can use the Oster to open a bottle in 30 seconds.

Expensive
“I really like the Peugeot electric wine opener,” says Thomas. “It’s a bit of a splurge, but it is so smooth and quiet.” This high-performing rechargeable corkscrew features a streamlined stainless steel design and a delicate, yet powerful mechanism that can be used on any type of cork—even older and more fragile ones.
With the single touch of a button, the cork is removed in seconds, and to remove the cork from the device, simply press the top button. We liked how easy it was to use. When not in use, store the corkscrew and charger away in the included compact case. Additionally, this electric wine opener can uncork around 40 bottles on a single charge.

Ivation’s sommelier-designed electric wine opener set has everything you need to enjoy (and preserve) any bottle of wine. The seven-piece kit is comprised of a rechargeable electric wine opener, an electric vacuum preserver pump, aerating pourer, two airtight stoppers with a date stamp function, a charging station, and a foil cutter. The opener works just like any standard electric wine opener—place it on the bottle’s neck and press the button to remove the cork while holding it firmly in place (and press again to release the cork once it’s out).
One thing worth noting is that there’s a bit of a learning curve with this set. If the screw doesn’t go straight into the cork, the sensor won’t work and it will take a few attempts, plus some adjustments, to get the cork removed from the bottle.
This opener can extract around 30 corks on each charge, which is comparable to many others on this list. Use the aerator to help any wine breathe as you pour it into your glass or decanter, and if you’ve got leftover wine, extend its life by sealing the bottle with one of the airtight stoppers, which are a nice addition. It’s a very handy set for anyone looking for a complete wine-drinking experience, from opening a bottle of wine to sealing it back up. The wine opener itself is lightweight yet sturdy with a unique matte finish.
Material: Plastic, stainless steel | Color: Matte black | Power Source: Rechargeable batteries | Dimensions: Wine opener dimensions: 2 x 8.27 inches; wine preserver : 1.7 x 6.67 inches; charging base dimensions: 5.9 x 5 x 1.41 inches

Heavy
Houdini’s no-frills battery-operated wine corkscrew is incredibly easy to use. Built to extract all types of corks from standard 750-milliliter bottles, this stainless steel corkscrew features a recessed worm that allows you to securely lock the device on the bottle’s neck while using it. Place it on the bottle, press the down arrow to remove the cork in just a few seconds, and then press the up arrow to release the cork from the screw. The removal was incredibly clean, which we appreciated.
Simple yet reliable, this affordably-priced corkscrew also requires four AA batteries, which makes it a little bit heavier than other models, but the batteries are included. And despite the fact that it doesn’t have a stand, it’s sturdy and can stand on its own with no wobbling.

More basic design
“Cuisinart makes a great rechargeable wine opener that can be used for up to dozens of bottles with a single charge—it’s a cinch to use,” says Thomas. With this cordless, lightweight opener, you’ll be able to open up to 50 bottles of wine before needing to be recharged, as well as synthetic and natural corks. Sleek, yet functional, the opener features a brushed stainless steel exterior, compact charging base, and hidden foil cutter. Plus, it comes with a three-year warranty. The design and function are definitely more basic than others on this, which might be a deterrent for some.
While the Cuisinart opener isn’t automatic and does require some button manipulation, the buttons are very clearly labeled: “Remove” for getting the cork out of the bottle and “Eject” for discarding the cork. Also, the heavier weight provided by the stainless steel tool made it easy to anchor the bottle in place during the opening process, so you don’t have to worry about it sliding or wobbling (which definitely sped everything up). The “Eject” function also worked well, and our tester was left with a totally intact cork that I could use to reseal the bottle.

Cons

A bit pricey
-
A bit slow
If you’re looking for a display piece with an equally aesthetically-pleasing foil cutter, look no further than this rechargeable wine opener set from Sharper Image. With its simple rectangular charging base, LED charging light, various metal finish options, and streamlined foil cutter, you can open over 30 bottles on one full charge.
We liked the modernist design; it features a see-through section that lights up when charging and also allows you to see the cork as it’s removed. It works well, but the system moves around when first removing the cork, which is just something to be aware of. This remover works a bit slower than other models, especially when ejecting the cork from the system.
This electric wine opener is designed for use with all standard 750-milliliter bottles and can also accommodate most oversized bottles. It comes complete with a one-year warranty from Sharper Image.

Final Verdict
The Secura Electric Wine Bottle Opener gets our top vote for its reliability, ease of use, and overall smart design. If you’re on a budget, you can’t beat the price of the Oster Electric Wine Opener, which is cordless and a snap to work with.
What to Look For in an Electric Wine Opener
Weight
Many electric openers are lightweight, but some definitely weigh more than others. If the heft of something in your hand is a deterrent, that’s a good thing to know before you purchase one. In that case, you might want something that’s more nimble and easier to work with.
Design
There are so many factors to possibly consider here. Is it loud? How long does a charge last? Does it take batteries? How many bottles can you open before you need to recharge or replace batteries? How does it feel in your hand; is it ergonomic? Is it easy to hold and grip? Maybe it feels clunky. Some electric wine openers come with other attachments or elements to consider. You might prefer a more straightforward model.
Cost
Price is often a factor. Most of the electric wine openers on our list are not expensive, coming in at under $30 or so. Materials will often make a product more expensive or other features that will affect the price.
Our Testing Process
All of the products featured in this list of electric wine openers have been carefully chosen by our editors and writers. We then sent each of the products directly to the writer for at-home testing. After applying a comprehensive list of methodologies—rating each item through a number of steps, and ranking them on key attributes tailored to each category—the writer provided personal feedback and captured photos of the items in use.
Some of the attributes we looked for and rated each electric wine opener on included its design, the material and weight of the openers, the battery life, the aesthetics, and the price, too. The overall value of each product was also taken into consideration.
FAQs
Do electric wine bottle openers work?
They most certainly do! The only caveat experts often add is that using an electric opener on a bottle of an older wine can increase the likelihood that the corks on these bottles will break. Handle with care in those scenarios.
How long does it take to charge an electric wine bottle opener?
It’s best to defer to the manufacturer’s instructions in this case, but typically these chargers can bring your opener up to charge within several hours.
Do electric wine bottle openers work on synthetic corks?
Yes! Electric wine bottle openers work on both synthetic corks and natural ones, so there’s no need to buy separate products for this.
How long is wine good for after opening a bottle?
The answer to this can vary, but 3 to 5 days is the most common window of time for wine freshness. You can vacuum seal the bottle and store it in the fridge, which will help delay the rate of oxidation. But the best way to check is to smell or taste it. If it smells or tastes off, cook with it instead.
Why Trust Liquor.com?

Trinity is a system integrator who implements complex IT projects for government agencies and commercial organizations

Prepare New Year gifts for company partners
Result
We made a batch of automatic corkscrews
Situation
The Trinity Company was looking for gifts for its partners for the new year. The client searched for ideas on his own and collaborated with other agencies. Our acquaintance happened when the client had already decided on gifts: automatic corkscrews for wine.
The electric corkscrew is a great gift for lovers of wine and gadgets. At first glance, this seems to be just entertainment. However, with such a corkscrew, the process of opening bottles becomes much more pleasant. Having tried once, there is no desire to use any other corkscrew.
Despite the fact that the client knew exactly what he wanted, it was difficult to find a decent solution. There are a lot of models of automatic corkscrews.
Implementation
We already had experience in the supply of corkscrews at the time of the request. We searched, compared different models, ordered samples from different manufacturers. Therefore, we are well versed in the functions and differences between different models of corkscrews.
Our corkscrews are pleasantly designed and easy to use. The body is made of steel, and the control is just one swing button.
How it works
The corkscrews are equipped with a light. When the cork is taken, the backlight glows blue, after the cork is removed from the bottle, the backlight will turn red, signaling the completion of work.
The autonomy of the corkscrew is ensured by a 550 mAh lithium-ion battery. When fully charged, the device will last for 70 bottle openings or 2.5 hours of operation.
Another significant advantage over competitors is micro-USB charging. This is better than analogues with a 3.5 connector or corkscrews powered by AA batteries
Micro-USB – a connector that is used on many modern smartphones. This means that there will be no problems with the charging cord, even if you forget or lose it. In addition, this allows you to charge the corkscrew from a power bank or laptop.
If the corkscrew runs out, you will need about a minute to recharge. This is enough to recharge the corkscrew to open one bottle. With finger batteries, most likely, you will have to look for a store.
We sent a sample of the corkscrew to the client, and his expectations were met. Our corkscrew turned out to be better than analogues offered by other companies.
Production
The metal surface of the corkscrew is perfect for laser engraving your logo. Engraving on metal looks organic. Such a logo seems to be made on the thing initially, and not added after. We proposed this application method and agreed with Trinity.
