please contact your local Staples with questions.
Is there a limit on how many items I can recycle?
Staples has a limit of 7 items per customer per day. Certain stores may, at the general manager’s discretion, accept a larger number of items on a case-by-case basis.
Do I have to be a Staples Rewards® member?
No, you do not need to be a Staples Rewards member to recycle or trade in items at Staples.
I have a business, can I recycle as part of this program?
Staples accepts eligible items from any customers whether they are for personal or business use. However, employees of businesses or other organizations should confirm with their information technology team about recycling
any company devices. There may be specific requirements that need to be met before recycling items.
Staples takes steps to protect customer information and can erase customer computers prior to recycling as part of our technology services, but we do not provide asset tracking, certificates of destruction or certificates
of erasure through our retail store program. Staples does offer mail-back box programs and pick up of electronics for businesses with 10+ employees through our Staples Business Advantage division.
Can I recycle at any Staples store?
All Staples stores except for our smaller-format stores in New York City and Washington, D.C. accept electronics for free recycling every day they are open. Find a Staples near you.
Why should I recycle electronics?
The average American household has 24 electronic devices, not to mention all the electronics used by businesses. Hundreds of millions of these devices become obsolete each year. That is one reason why electronic waste is
the
fastest-growing waste stream in the United States.
Recycling electronics helps ensure that the precious metals, aluminum, steel, plastics and other materials are recycled. For example, there is 324 times more gold, 13 times more copper, and 6.5 times more silver in one
pound of smartphones than a pound of ore found in typical mining operations. Recycling supports the recycling industry and helps create jobs in the United States and diverts hazardous materials like lead, mercury and
cadmium from the air, water and soil.
Why should I recycle my electronics at Staples?
Unlike many municipal programs, some other national retailers, and other local recyclers, recycling all eligible items at Staples is always free and convenient. Plus, our national recycling partner, ERI Direct, processes
all material in the US and is certified to the most rigorous standards. Staples received the highest score (B+) out of all retail recyclers in the Electronic Retailers Electronic Recycling Report Card, which evaluated
retailers on convenience and use of certified recycling partners among other factors.
How does the recycling process work?
Materials Staples collects from customers are kept in an employee-only area of the store for a short time until sufficient material has been collected to backhaul to our Staples® warehouse
locations. The Staples warehouses consolidate the electronics into full truckloads and ship the material to the facilities of our national recycling partner, ERI Direct. There, the material is triaged based on potential
for remanufacturing or parts harvesting. Items that can be refurbished or that may have parts that can be reused are separated and processed separately.
Any computers, phones or other data-containing devices with hard drives entering the reuse market are wiped to Department of Defense specifications or the hard drives/memory cards are
destroyed. Older electronic items are pre-processed and then run through a large shredder to separate various metals, plastics and glass for sending to different, downstream recycling facilities.
How does Staples ensure the material you collect is responsibly recycled?
Staples is an e-Stewards Enterprise, which means that we have committed to using certified e-Stewards recyclers whenever possible to handle the materials
we collect. ERI Direct, a certified e-Stewards Recycler, is our primary recycling partner for electronics and therefore must be audited against stringent standards and disclose their
downstream processing partners to ensure that they are using responsible e-waste recycling practices and not exporting or otherwise improperly handling electronic materials.
Do you accept batteries and if so what kind?
Staples only accepts rechargeable Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd), Lithium Ion (Li-Ion), Small Sealed Lead Acid (SSLA/Pb), Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH),
and Nickel Zinc (Ni-ZN) batteries that are 11 pounds or less. We do not accept automotive/wet-cell batteries or alkaline or lithium batteries. All
collected batteries are recycled through a program with Call2Recycle.
Are appliances eligible for tech recycling?
Staples currently accepts coffee brewers weighing less than 40 pounds. No other appliances are currently eligible for recycling at this time.
Computer recycling in Moscow. Dispose of computer equipment
Disposal of computer equipment is an important issue in modern society. All organizations without exception are equipped with office equipment. It refers to the fixed assets of companies and allows you to solve many production issues. Laptops, desktop computers and all-in-ones are purchased by the dozen, but over time they fail or simply become obsolete.
Devices that failed due to improper operation, lack of timely maintenance or for any other reason are usually written off from the balance sheet of the enterprise to simplify accounting and just to free up space. This is how an additional expense item called “Utilization of computers and office equipment” appears.
Decommissioning and disposal of equipment
Utilization of computers involves the preparation and collection of reporting accounting documentation on the reason for the write-off of fixed assets and the subsequent transfer of office equipment unsuitable for work to company specialists who receive old computer equipment. At the same time, the write-off and disposal of computers and office equipment is carried out in accordance with Federal Law No. 89-FZ “On Production and Consumption Waste”.
Why dispose of computer equipment?
Computers, while useful within businesses, pose a serious threat to the environment. If you do not dispose of the computer, but place it in the conditions of nature, then it will begin to act detrimentally on it. Office equipment emits a huge amount of hazardous substances.
It is enough to disassemble a computer to understand that its components are poisonous to all living things. Heavy metals, derivatives of gases – all this can penetrate into the soil and groundwater, they will easily poison the air and cause significant harm to the Flora and Fauna. Lead, mercury and cadmium can have a negative impact on all systems of human life. When ingested, they will damage the nervous, excretory and digestive systems.
Acceptance of computers for recycling: where to hand over?
Recycling your computer is very important, as its casing uses polymers that take hundreds of years to degrade in natural conditions. And before the moment of complete collapse comes, they will send everything around with their fumes.
Dealing with such issues on your own is difficult from a technical point of view – you need a specialized company for recycling computer equipment. A license is needed for such activities – this is another reason why such cases are not done on their own.
Recycling old computers and saving are practically incompatible things. There will always be tricksters who decide not to spend the organization’s funds to throw away a computer. It would seem that it could be easier – to take office equipment unsuitable for work to the nearest trash can or to a city dump?
Let’s just say that the correct disposal of computer equipment at a price will cost you less. The bottom line is that if you try to take such “garbage” to an unauthorized place, for example, to a landfill or simply to the nearest forest belt, then there is a big risk of receiving a significant fine from the state environmental service. The amount of the fine will be proportional to the severity of the harm caused to nature or human health. So it is better to contact a specialized company that provides services for the disposal of computer equipment.
The Waste Management group of companies accepts computers for disposal. We have been working in this area since 2007. Services are provided to commercial organizations from the Central and Northwestern Federal Districts.
Disposal of the PC must be carried out in full compliance with current legislation. Utilization of computer equipment in Moscow is a service that can be ordered from the Waste Management group of companies and absolutely not worry about the degree of legality of the disposal of waste of various hazard classes. We have extensive experience in such matters – it will do without fines and harm to the environment.
The basis for our work is a state license and other permits. We do not work without a contract – cooperation begins only from the moment the document is signed by both parties. The contract prescribes all the nuances of future cooperation, including the schedule for the removal of waste from the customer’s possessions.
The Waste Management group of companies has its own fleet of vehicles. Own special transport in matters of waste disposal of varying degrees of danger is a necessary thing. Personal cars allow us to timely withdraw the fixed assets of organizations that have become illiquid.
Upon completion of the computer equipment disposal procedure, customers receive supporting documents, which are presented to representatives of regulatory authorities during verification. These documents are a guarantee that there will be no administrative punishment for a company that got rid of unnecessary office equipment.
How much does it cost to dispose of computers in the Waste Management group of companies?
Specialists of the group of companies “Waste Management” approach the pricing process individually for each client. Just leave a request for a calculation in any way convenient for you – call us by phone, leave a request in the feedback form, write in any messenger convenient for you or by e-mail.
We will evaluate the amount of work and prepare an individual commercial offer, in which we will indicate the cost of the service. For each client, we assign a personal manager for prompt resolution of issues.
Contact our specialists right now – and we will restore order in your territory quickly and legally.
Recycling computers – the price of recycling computer equipment
How is the recycling of computer equipment?
The first stage of the process is the write-off of unclaimed or failed devices from the company’s balance sheet. The equipment is sent to a warehouse for temporary storage or immediately transferred to a recycling company for recycling. But it is important to hand over a broken or outdated computer to the contractor for recycling under a contract. The absence of documents confirming the processing will be the reason for the imposition of environmental fines.
Computer recycling steps:
- disassembly of the unit, sorting parts by type to simplify further recycling;
- sending metal parts for recycling, shredding plastic, using pellets in production;
- processing of motherboards, extraction of precious metals, removal of solder from electronic parts;
- destruction of materials that cannot be reused or recycled;
- preparation of documentation, transfer of documents to the customer, consultations and support during inspections.
Such recycling of computer equipment prevents the ingress of hazardous materials into soils and soil waters, and prevents potential harm to the environment. If the company threw out the old office equipment in a landfill, the next check will impose a fine. Penalties apply to the company, as well as to those responsible for the proper handling of waste. Given the tightening of liability for violation of environmental laws, it is more profitable to order official disposal.
Why dispose of computer equipment at EKMUS LLC?
Our company carries out complex processing of waste of any hazard class. Reception of products takes place at your enterprise, we take out unclaimed equipment on our own, destroy and process it, issue a package of documents. For the disposal of computer equipment, we use modern safe methods. We submit the necessary reports to state services and funds. Cooperation with specialists will relieve you of risks during the following inspections of the enterprise.
