Household appliances are improving. Devices combine functions, become universal. Refrigerator with icemaker is an example of combining two appliances with cryogenic options. Among the refrigerators there are built-in models, autonomous and connected to the water supply. The device dispenses ice cubes, crushed or chilled water.

What is an ice maker in a refrigerator

Ice maker is designed for making edible ice. In combination with it, they use a system for connecting to a water supply system, filtering the incoming water, a container for ice cubes, and a dispenser. The device may have a grinder and a freezer tray. Instead of running water, purified water is poured into the tank.

The ice maker does not freeze the water, it opens the valve to fill the molds with water, measures the temperature, turns on the blade motor to push the ice out.

Advantages of using a built-in ice maker:

automation of the process of obtaining and storing ice;
versatility – obtaining chilled or frozen water;
different models.

The dispenser is used to dispense chilled water or ice without opening the refrigerator door. At the same time, the device prevents contact between liquid and food in the refrigerator. The dispensing unit gives out a portion of water or ice at the touch of a button.

Automatic refers to a refrigerator with an ice maker connected to a water system. A removable filter flask with a replaceable cartridge is mounted on the rear wall of the refrigerator. A selective tap cuts into the common line, water enters the ice maker through a copper pipe or a soft food-grade polymer hose. The product is frozen by blowing cold air, according to the classical scheme of the refrigerator or technologically chilled water.

The ice maker is set up to dispense cold water, ice, crumbs up to 4 kg/day. Unused product is not kept. Unused product is melted and fresh cubes are made. Depending on the design, a portion can be obtained through a dispenser or by pulling out a special container.

Equipment may be built-in or freestanding. Refrigerator with icemaker built-in has design features:

The dimensions of the built-in are narrower than free-standing refrigerators with icemakers.
Door awnings must be easy to open and close to the structure.
The door panel must have a fixing for the decorative panel.

Built-in refrigerators can consist of one or two cabinets with a total height of up to 2 meters. Solo cabinets with a built-in ice maker can freeze automatically or operate without a connection to the water supply. They produce refrigerators with an icemaker in different price categories, depending on the system used. Affordable, mid-range devices from Korean manufacturers – Daewoo, LG, Samsung,

Refrigerator with ice maker is often used without a water connection. The device has a simpler design. Therefore, the cost of models is affordable, the supply of cold water and ice is no longer the privilege of wealthy families. It took several automatic operations to make manual.

Production of ice in an autonomous system:

Purified, softened or bottled water is poured into a special container located in the refrigerator.
The tube drains the liquid into the ice maker that is installed in the freezer.
After freezing, the cubes are dropped into a storage container.

At home, brine and compressor freezing devices are used. If water cooled to minus 10 ⁰ C is used as a coolant, then the method is called brine. The finished product can be in the form of cubes, granules or flakes, it is stored in a special container.

Two-door refrigerator with icemaker

A large two-door refrigerator with a capacity of 500-600 liters can hold a two-week supply of food for a large family. The classic version of the American design is the vertical arrangement of the freezer and refrigerator in height. Most often, two-door and multi-chamber Side-by-Side refrigerators are equipped with an ice maker. Along with a minibar, such designs have an ice maker or dispenser. When installing a side-by-side refrigerator with an ice maker, a stationary water supply is required. The devices operate only in automatic mode, with the setting for the supply of cold water or food ice.

How to connect a refrigerator with an icemaker

First you need to find a place to install the equipment. It should be a room with ventilation, without excessive humidity. The refrigerator must not be placed near radiators, the distance from the sink and stove should be more than 50 cm. Free space should be provided for opening multi-door refrigerators. For any cabinets, including built-in cabinets, the distance to the walls must be at least 5 cm to prevent the compressor from overheating. The socket or stabilizer must be in close proximity to the appliance.

The water connection must now be made if the ice maker is in automatic mode. To do this, a tap with a tap cuts into the cold water supply. A tube is laid to the connection point of the refrigerator. The connection to the refrigerator is shown in the figure. Work on tapping the crane into the line must be entrusted to a specialist.

Further maintenance of the ice maker is the same as for all refrigerator compartments. In units with touch control, it is possible to set the type of ice, dosing of liquid and pieces of ice.
