Reviews of washer and dryers: The 4 Best Washing Machine & Dryer Sets of 2023

11 Best Washer and Dryer Sets of 2023

Written by Leigh Harrington and Gabriel Morgan

Updated June 12, 2023

Like any large appliance, buying a washing machine and a dryer is an investment, so you want to make sure you do things right. There are a few instances when buying a washer dryer set makes sense: one, you’re in need of both; two, you know you will want to stack them; three, you’re looking to get the most functionality and best compatibility out of your laundry room.

Many consumers spend the bulk of their time and effort researching a washer, and then just select the matching dryer as an afterthought. While washers (both top-loaders and front-loaders) do have more of an impact on your “laundry day” experience (a good washer means less work for your dryer and a shorter wash time), you also don’t want to get stuck with a bad dryer with a low spin speed and damp clothes for the next decade.

Since we’ve been testing washers and dryers in our labs for more than a decade, we know what to look for in the best washer and dryer sets. At the top of our rankings, the Electrolux ELFW7637AT / ELFE7637AT
(available at Appliances Connection)

washer and dryer combo offers one of the best performances we’ve ever seen in our labs. If you’re looking for great value, we love the Maytag Pet Pro MVW6500MBK/MED6500MBK (available at Lowe’s).

Editor’s Note:

Due to supply chain challenges and soaring demand, there is widespread unavailability of home appliances and long wait times for delivery of backordered products. If you’re a consumer in need of a washer or dryer, here are the best places to buy in-stock appliances right now.

The front-loading ELFW7637AT has excellent stain removal performance, a detergent pod dispenser, and a 15-minute Fast wash.

Best Overall

Electrolux ELFW7637AT / ELFE7637AT

  • Dimensions: Washer: 38” x 27” x 32” Dryer: 38″ x 27″ x 32″ (H x W x D)
  • Finish: Titanium, white
  • Orientation: Front-load
  • Stackable: Yes
  • Special Features: Pure Rinse, Smart Boost, Adaptive Dispense, LuxCare Wash System

The Electrolux ELFW7637AT checks all the right boxes. First and foremost, it’s a great washing machine. During testing, we found that it can deal with various stains, from protein to oil. The internal water heater also adds a lot of versatility, allowing you to sanitize clothing of common diseases, like E. coli, get rid of allergens, and help keep your whites as bright as can be.

Secondly, the ELFW7637AT comes equipped with plenty of features that just make life better. For example, instead of tossing Tide pods in the drum where soap won’t get evenly distributed, this washer has a special spot for them in the detergent drawer. There are also options like Extended Refresh that will tumble laundry after a cycle is finished to keep it from getting musty.

Finally, this Electrolux just has a great fit and finish. You can tell that the manufacturing is well done by the clean text on the control panel and the satisfying click on the dial.

After all our testing, we also think the Electrolux ELFW7637AT is perfect for most families. It has the drum capacity, cleaning performance, and features to cover all the major laundry bases. That’s why it takes the top spot in our washing machine rankings.

The ELFE7637AT dryer has an 8.0 cubic foot capacity, and has features like Balanced Dry which the company says works to eliminate temperature spikes and keep clothing cooler, Predictive Dry which calculates an accurate drying time based on your load, and the LuxCare Dry System which uses a sensor to detect humidity on items to better treat fabrics. It can also run a 15 minute fast dry load if you need those soccer uniforms dry before practice begins.

This Maytag duo is a great value and excels at removing pet hair.

Best Value

Maytag Pet Pro MVW6500MBK/ MED6500MBK

  • Dimensions: Washer: 57.5” x 27.5” x 27.5” Dryer: 40.69” x 29” x 28.38” (H x W x D)
  • Finish: White, Volcano black
  • Orientation: Top-load
  • Stackable: No
  • Special features: Internal pet hair filter, internal faucet

On our list of best washer and dryer sets, the Maytag Pet Pro MVW6500MBK washer and Maytag MED6500MBK electric dryer come out on top as our best value pick.

This top-loading washer includes a filter inside the pole agitator that is designed to collect pet hair. During testing, it removed an impressive amount of fur off of a pet bed, and the MED6500MBK dryer works in tandem with the washer to ensure your laundry comes out both dry and hair-free. This washer is a little rougher—wear-and-tear-wise—on clothes than we’d like; its Delicates cycle is only slightly more gentle than a Normal cycle.

Because of its top-load orientation, the MVW6500MBK also includes a built-in faucet which is useful for pre-treating stains and helps to save water. In terms of cleaning capabilities, the MVW6500MBK performed well—it did slightly better than average in our testing, and the Heavy and Delicates cycles did particularly well with stain removal.

For its part, the dryer outperformed most other dryers across multiple cycles. With a huge 7 cubic foot capacity, the stainless steel drum can handle large loads, and both the Normal and Bulky settings dried laundry in just under an hour. There’s even a Quick Dry setting which only took 16 minutes to remove 68% of the water in a laundry load. And it still includes popular steam features to sanitize and remove wrinkles.

Best Top-load

GE Profile PTW900BPTRS / PTD90EBPTRS

  • Dimensions: Washer: 43.88” x 27.88” x 28” Dryer: 43.88” x 27” x 31” (H x W x D)
  • Finish: Grey, Blue Sapphire
  • Orientation: Top-load
  • Stackable: No
  • Special features: Remote start, smart capabilities, steam cycles

If you’re a traditionalist who will always prefer a top-loader, this workhorse washer-dryer pair from GE will be right up your alley.

The PTW900BPTRS has a 5.4-cubic-foot drum, and the paired PTD90EBPTRS dryer has a 7.3-cubic-foot stainless steel drum, meaning this set can handle bulky items or larger laundry loads easily. That means running fewer, larger loads and less time loading and unloading.

Both machines were also solid performers during testing: The PTW900BPTRS outperformed the average top-loader on both the Normal and the Delicates cycle which over time results in clothing looking brighter for longer, while the PTD90EBPTRS dryer got loads 99.11% dry on Normal and Delicate cycles. It also managed to get a comforter 98.08% dry on the Bulky cycle, removing 19% more water than the average dryer.

As part of the Profile line, both machines also offer tech-forward features – On the PTW900BPTRS washer the SmartHQ platform can send notifications when a cycle completes or reminders when tanks are running low, and allows for remote control. Meanwhile the PTD90EBPTRS features a Wrinkle Care option that keeps the drum tumbling and steaming your clothes for up to an hour after a cycle, and a Fabric Refresh mode that allows you to add wrinkled laundry for a freshening up tumble without putting that load through an entire wash cycle first.

This fully integrated laundry center, meaning it’s all one unit rather than two stacked units, features a single, slim design to help it fit into smaller spaces.

The LG WashTower that we lab tested offered an above-average performance and got our laundry up to 4% cleaner than average. Plus, it did so in record time.

Drying, too, is a breeze. The dryer coordinates with the washer to automatically assign an appropriate drying cycle based on what you selected for the washer. But you can also make manual cycle selections.

We don’t see many washer-dryer pairs that feature such great performance at such a low price.

For the very specific consumer who needs a compact washer and dryer set, the Miele WXR860WCS compact washer and the Miele TXR860WP Eco & Steam compact dryer is a solid bet.

Best Compact

Miele WXR860WCS / TXR860WP

  • Dimensions: Washer: 33.5” x 23.5” x 25.3” Dryer: 33.5” x 23.5” x 25.4” (H x W x D)
  • Finish: White
  • Orientation: Front-load
  • Stackable: Yes
  • Special features: Remote monitoring, auto detergent dispensing

For the very specific consumer who needs a compact washer and dryer set, the Miele WXR860WCS compact washer and the Miele TXR860WP Eco & Steam compact dryer is a solid bet, although you’ll pay for it.

This Miele compact front-load washer has versatility and innovations that we’d normally see on a full-sized flagship model. For example, its TwinDos feature utilizes pre-filled detergent and oxygen bleach cartridges to automatically dispense the correct amount of detergent, giving you the optimum clean.

Its normal cycle is one of the best in its class when it comes to cleaning, combining high-tech features with good-old-fashioned scrubbing.

Miele’s matching dryer features temperatures that are gentle on clothes and 19 specialty cycles to take care of your clothing without adding wear and tear.

All of the cycles we ran lasted over an hour, offering longer drying times than vented dryers, but what it lacks in speed it makes up for in quality.

In the upper left corner of the machine, you’ll find a water jug into which the condensation from your laundry empties. You will have to manually empty it when it reaches maximum capacity.

Other Washer and Dryer Sets We Tested

LG WM6700HBA / DLEX6700B

  • Dimensions: Washer: 39″ x 27″ x 33. 25″ Dryer: 39″ x 27″ x 30 1/8″ (H x W x D)
  • Finish: Black
  • Orientation: Front-load
  • Stackable: Yes
  • Special features: Smart pairing, auto detergent dispensing, steam mode in dryer

Future-forward is the term that comes to mind when describing the LG WM6700HBA washer and accompanying LG DLEX6700B dryer. But this large 5-cubic-foot capacity washer and steaming dryer offer more than flashy design chops and a contemporary aesthetic.

The LG WM6700HBA washer capitalizes on speed and volume. Its normal mode can finish loads in about 30 minutes, while the washer’s Quick Wash finishes in just 15 minutes. With a drum capacity of five cubic feet, laundry probably won’t take all day even for a big family. The downside of these prodigious washing speeds is that the washer does tend to be a little rough on clothes.

The washer also has an easy detergent dispenser system that ensures each load gets the right dose.

The LG DLEX6700B dryer makes for a good match that mimics the attractive styling of the LG WM6700HBA. On its own, the dryer has above average performance, with a large-capacity 7.4 cubic-foot drum and relatively quick cycles. It offers a Turbosteam mode that uses steam to refresh clothing and unlock wrinkles.

Together, the washer and dryer set synergize via LG’s ThinQ app. With Smart Pairing, the two units communicate, coordinating the most effective drying cycle for the wash cycle that has just completed. This yields superior efficiency in both machines and contributes to their Energy Star qualifications.

Both the LG WM6700HBA and the LG DLEX6700B received Energy Star ratings, while the washer actually qualified for Energy Star’s Most Efficient award in 2023.

Maytag MHW8630HC / MED8630HC

  • Dimensions: Washer: 38.63” x 27” x 32.94” Dryer: 38.13” x 27” x 30.69” (H x W x D)
  • Finish: Metallic slate, white
  • Orientation: Front-load
  • Stackable: Yes
  • Special features: Smart capabilities, Wi-Fi, remote monitoring, PowerWash System, Fresh Hold option, reversible door on dryer

To date, the Maytag MHW8630HC washing machine is the best Maytag washer to have ever been tested in our labs. It has a massive 5-cubic-foot drum, a true Sanitize cycle, and a high performing Heavy Duty cycle. We have not tested its companion dryer, the Maytag MED8630HC, but we feel confident it’s a match for this washer.

During our testing on the washer, it showed top-tier cleaning performance, especially when using its heavy cycle. It also features an internal heater that allows it to heartily sanitize your clothing at around 130°F, which is hot enough to kill 99.9% of illness-causing bacteria, like pneumonia.

Like this Maytag washer, the dryer offers smart capabilities with both Amazon and Google Home, plus you can employ remote control and remote monitoring through its app as you wash and dry. This dryer also boasts a massive, 7.3-cubic-foot dryer, which is ideal for families and others creating oversized loads.

Cons
  • Expensive

  • Slow cycles

Samsung WF53BB8700AT / DVE53BB8700T

The Samsung WF53BB8700AT brings the popular Bespoke line of appliances to your laundry room, to impressive results. Not only does this washer have faster cycles to scrub out more stains, the WF53BB8700AT distinguishes itself with a solid feature set starting with a huge 6.1-cubic-foot drum.

That giant wash drum is about 33% larger than the average washer’s, which means you’ll need to run fewer wash cycles each week—those with larger families stand to gain the most benefit here. The WF53BB8700AT also has a ton of other features to help sweeten the deal, from a full set of steam cycles to help sanitize your laundry and remove wrinkles, an interior LED for easier loading in dim laundry rooms, a self-cleaning mode to cut down on odors, and quiet cycles.

Those with limited space will love its ability to stack up with its paired dryer and still be able to fit inside a laundry closet — and the paired Samsung DVE53BB8700T dryer can also be controlled via the washer’s MultiControl smart feature.

The DVE54BB8700T dryer, which we have not tested, also features an AI Smart Dial, which learns and recommends favorite cycles, a 30 minute Super Speed cycle, a Steam Sanitize+ cycle and smart features courtesy of the SmartThings App which will send end of cycle alerts, as well as schedule, start and stop cycles.

Maytag MHW6630HC / MED6630HC

  • Dimensions: Washer: 38.62” x 27” x 32.94” Dryer: 38.62” x 27” x 30.75” (H x W x D)
  • Finish: White, metallic slate
  • Orientation: Front-load
  • Stackable: Yes
  • Special features: Extra power, sanitize cycle, wrinkle prevent option

Long-time fans of Maytag won’t be disappointed with the Maytag MHW6630HC washer and the Maytag MED6630HC dryer set.

During our lab testing, this Maytag washer’s normal and heavy cycles performed strongly, and it also has a speedy, highly effective 13-minute-long quick wash. This washer is less gentle on clothes than we’d hoped, but it makes up for it with some neat features.

Three such: A steam option, an extended tumble cycle to keep post-wash clothes from clumping and wrinkling, and the Extra Power button that helps get tough stains out of family-sized loads of laundry.

The Maytag dryer is the perfect combination of looks, usability, speed, and power. It has a large, central dial and a streamlined control panel that makes cycle selection a breeze.

It dries clothes quickly without raising the temperature to the point where you’d have to worry about heat damage, and the test loads in the normal and delicates cycles came out 100% dry.

GE GFW850SPNRS / GFD85ESPNRS

  • Dimensions: Washer: 39.75” x 28” x 34” Dryer: 39.75” x 28” x 32” (H x W x D)
  • Finish: White, Sapphire Blue, Diamond Gray
  • Orientation: Front-load
  • Stackable: Yes
  • Special features: Microban antimicrobial gasket, auto dispense, smart connectivity, Wi-Fi, steam features, reversible door in washer

The sleek and stylish GE GFW850SPNRS washing machine and its matching GE GFD85ESPNRS dryer are feature packed and high performing.

Despite its bells and whistles, this GE washer still comes at an affordable price. Its stain removal abilities are strong across the four main cycles we tested, and it exhibited relatively low wear and tear on our test laundry loads.

Common with many front-load washers, a smelly interior is due to bacteria build-up in the gasket. GE solves this problem with Microban antibacterial materials and a through-door vent system that doubles as a dryer for small laundry loads.

The matching GE dryer features a wide range of cycles and options (including PowerSteam cycles, a sanitize cycle, and a static reduction option).

The cycle times on this dryer are relatively long (quick equals an hour), and its cycles all get the laundry more than 97% dry.

LG WT7900HBA / DLEX7900

  • Dimensions: Washer: 44.5” x 27” x 28.38” Dryer: 44.5” x 27” x 29.5” (H x W x D)
  • Finish: Black steel, white
  • Orientation: Top-load
  • Stackable: No
  • Special features: Remote start, smart capabilities, steam cycles

Laundry traditionalists will always prefer top-loaders vs front-loaders. If this sounds like you, this workhorse of a washer-dryer pair from LG will be right up your alley.

The LG WT7900HBA top-loading washer and the LG DLEX7900BE dryer can handle lots of laundry and lots of different laundry situations.

This LG washer’s cycle times are short, including the heavy duty cycle, which performed the best in our stain removal tests and takes less than two hours to run. It also boasts the Allergiene cycle, which claims to remove pet dander and dust mites, and seven steam cycles.

When tested, the dryer got our laundry loads more than 80% dry, but the speed dry and delicate cycles are highly effective. It’s also full of neat cycle options and features, including an anti-bacterial cycle and wrinkle care.

A huge perk, the dryer door can open to the side or open downward, giving you flexibility when it comes to popping wet, heavy laundry loads into the dryer without wrenching your back.

How We Tested Washer and Dryer Sets

The Testers

Many members of the Reviewed Lab staff past and present have tested washing machines and dryers, including our chief scientist David Ellerby, our former senior scientist Julia McDougall, and lab technicians Jonathan Chan, Kyle Hamilton, Beckett Dubay, and Michael Elderbee.

The Tests

Credit:
Reviewed / Timothy Renzi

Reviewed looks at stain removal prowess, using strips of AHAM-approved stains, which includes cocoa, sweat, pig’s blood, red wine, and oil, wear and tear, water retention, and cycle time.

If blood, oil, and sweat sound like something out of a Saw film, you’re right on the money. They’re also some of the elements we use to test washing machines in the Reviewed labs. We’ll know a winner when it can truly tackle those nasty stains.

Our chief scientist, team of lab experts, and our appliance reviewers take testing washing machines and gas and electric dryers seriously. We bring in top-rated and best-selling models from brands like Maytag, LG, Samsung, Speed Queen, GE, Miele and more, and we run them through rigorous, science-based tests and gather concrete data that we use to compare, contrast, and rank machines.

For washing machines, we look at stain removal prowess (using strips of AHAM-approved stains (which includes cocoa, sweat, pig’s blood, red wine, and oil), wear and tear, water retention, cycle time. For dryers, we look at performance and maximum temperatures, and cycle times, to name a few things.

We also take into account user experience factors, so consumers can get the whole picture. We also assess how easy it is to use each washing machine and dryer. This involves cumulatively assessing the control panel, door, detergent dispenser, and any smart features that are included.

What You Should Know About Buying Washer and Dryer Sets

When it comes to laundry pairs, the washing machine and the dryer are designed to work together.

For instance, if a washing machine does a great job of removing stains from a laundry load, but has a tougher time spinning out all of the water, the dryer can be programmed to anticipate extra-wet laundry and run at temperatures hot enough to remove all of the moisture. This way, you end up with clean, dry clothes after one full laundry cycle.

On the other hand, if you pick a washer and a dryer that are unrelated to one another, you could end up with a washer that leaves clothes wet, and a dryer that doesn’t know to compensate appropriately.

How Much Is A Washer And Dryer Set

While it’s cheaper to replace just a washer or a dryer when one of your existing ones breaks down and dies, there are definitely some advantages to buying a laundry pair, including a reduced price.

Buying a washer and dryer set will typically save you a few hundred dollars—think of it like a bundle. The depth of the savings depends on where you shop.

You may also save even more money on major sales times, like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Memorial Day weekend, President’s Day, and Labor Day. If you have flexibility, you should also consider shopping during the spring when warehouses are cleaning out their inventories, in the fall when brands begin launching new models, and right after the holidays.

Where To Buy Washer And Dryer Sets

When it comes to where to buy washer and dryer sets, the answer is easy—wherever large appliances are sold. The best—and our favorite—online retailers include AJ Madison, Abt, and Appliances Connection. You can also shop locally or online at stores like Best Buy, The Home Depot, and Lowe’s.

We always recommend shopping around for large appliances. With supply chain issues and fluctuating demand, finding the appliances you want in-stock when you want them can be challenging.

We strongly recommend against buying a washer and dryer set, or any large appliances for that matter, on Amazon or at Walmart. From mostly third-party sellers to voided warranties to not including installation for all items, buying appliances here could come with more risk than we think is necessary.

How To Set Up A Washer And Dryer

You should consider buying a laundry pair if there’s a chance you’ll want or need to stack the washer and dryer.

The first rule of stacking a washer and dryer is to never stack them unless the manufacturer indicates they are meant to be stacked, and you’ve purchased a stacking kit. The washer also needs to be a front-load washing machine, and the washer and dryer should be a matching set.

You’ll typically need tools like a screwdriver, wrench, level, and tape measure. You’ll also want to locate your owner’s manual or look on the brand’s website for installation instructions. You won’t be able to do this job on your own, so bring in a friend or partner who can lift.

The washer goes on the bottom, and the dryer goes on the top—always. Dryers are much lighter, and they never fill with water.

Best washer-dryer

Siemens WD14U520GB Washer Dryer

£867 at AO

This Siemens model is one of the more high-end washer-dryers in the brand’s range and the winner of our tests. It has a generous 10kg capacity and good stain removal, making it a great choice for a family. We thought the ‘reload’ function that allows you to pause the wash and anything you’ve forgotten was a useful feature.

This machine performed very well for stain removal on cottons, removing an impressive 85% of stains, compared to 82% of stains from synthetics. In our tests, it dried efficiently and very quickly too, taking just over an hour to dry cottons and 55 minutes to dry synthetics.

Its electricity consumption was low compared to other models we tried, but the cotton drying cycle left clothes very creased.

Runner-up washer-dryer

Bosch Serie 6 WDU28560GB Washer Dryer

While pricey, this is one of Bosch’s mid-range freestanding models. It has a jog wheel control which is clearly labelled and the touch screen is intuitive. It’s really simple to operate and we like that some cycles can be paused to allow you to add forgotten items into the wash, like the winner. Anyone who is sensitive to washing detergents will be pleased to know the default rinsing cycles are effective compared to other models tested. You can also choose an option for an even more thorough rinse.

We did notice some timer inaccuracy during the cotton wash cycle, and this wasn’t the case with our winner. The timer said that there was one minute remaining before the rinse had finished. After displaying one minute for a while, it suddenly switched to over an hour remaining.

The synthetic drying cycle is quick and clothes weren’t overly creased. The cotton drying cycle is also speedy, clothes were almost perfectly dried but heavily creased. Both the wash cycles and the combined wash and dry cycle used an average amount of energy. Consumption on the drying cycles was low on the whole, though not lower than the winner.

AEG OkoMix L8WEC166R

£1,099 at AO

This is AEG’s mid-range washer-dryer. The brand claims it’s the first model on the market to pre-mix detergents and softeners separately to activate them before they enter the drum, and this method is supposed to offer the most thorough clean. On test, we found it removed almost 77% of stains from cotton and an impressive 93% of stains from synthetic fabrics. It scored full marks in our rinsing test, meaning nearly 100% of the detergent was removed, making it a great option for those sensitive to detergents.

Despite its 10kg washing capacity, we struggled to even fit 7.5kg of the laundry in the drum. The cotton drying cycle left our laundry perfectly dry and is speedy, but left the clothes heavily creased. The synthetic cycle left the clothes almost perfectly dry but also very creased.

Like our winner and runner-up, this model’s energy consumption on the washing cycle was low. However, we found its drying cycle was more energy efficient than the runner-up. It has a longer combined wash and dry cycle than most on our list and – as expected – it uses a lot of energy.

Miele WTF121WPM Washer Dryer

As always with Miele, you pay a premium price for a premium product. This model is really quiet, the control panel is intuitive, and the large display screen is clear with helpful prompts. It removed 71% of stains on cotton and 82% of stains on synthetics, which would be fine for laundry with ordinary dirt and staining. Helpfully, for heavily stained clothes, there’s an intensive option which can be activated for most cycles if you need better stain removal. During the combined wash and dry cycle, we noticed that the timer got stuck and said there were 12 minutes remaining for over an hour.

This model is the most energy-efficient on the list. The consumption for the wash cycles was very low – lower than our winner. And this Miele scored full marks for low energy usage on our drying cycles and the combined wash and dry test.

The cotton drying programme over dried our clothes, leaving them very creased, while the synthetic programme left clothes a little damp. Though expensive, this is a quiet machine with lots of programmes and straightforward controls  – it’s an upfront cost that’ll save money in the long run.

Zanussi ZWD91683NW Freestanding Washer Dryer

This is the newest model in Zanussi’s freestanding washer-dryer range. With its large, clearly labelled dial, it’s simple to operate. It excelled at stain removal, removing 78% of stains from cotton and 91% of stains from synthetics, making it one of the best washer dryers tested for stain removal. The porthole only measures 30cm, which is on the smaller side compared to other models – of the maximum 9kg capacity, we struggled to fit even 7kg of washing in the drum.

Drying won’t be a problem as this is one of the top-performing washer-dryers for drying cycles. It dried both cotton and synthetics in a good amount of time – two hours and just over an hour respectively (but cotton clothing came out with a lot of creases).

The energy consumption varied depending on which function we used. On the washing cycle, consumption was only average, compared to the drying cycle, where we found it was very low when drying cottons, and scored full marks for efficiency when drying synthetic fabrics. Like on our runner-up, consumption on the combined wash and dry cycle was very high due to the length of the cycle.

This is one of the more basic washer-dryers in Beko’s range. We were impressed by the overall design of this Beko washer-dryer. It’s intuitive, has a good drum size and an attractive appearance. It also scored highly for its drying efficiency and we were pleased with its separate wash cycle stain removal.

However, the drying was so strong that it did over-dry some laundry in places, causing it to harden. This indicates that the maximum drying capacity was too high and it found it difficult to dry evenly. The combination wash failed to remove stains as effectively as a separate wash too. We also saw a lot of shrinkage on our cotton drying test.

The energy consumption was neither markedly high or particularly efficient on our separate wash and dry tests. Unfortunately, the combined wash and dry cycle used a significant amount of energy, despite it being one of the fastest machines on this list.

This Samsung washer dryer has a smart design and the wash options are really easy to navigate and understand. Like other Samsung machines, this model plays a long song at the end of the cycle, but you can turn this off if you want to. It’s also one of the newer Samsung models on the market but comes at a mid-range price-point of £600.

Rinsing is effective on the default rinse setting, which is good news if you’re sensitive to detergent residues. In our tests, it scored average results. It removed almost 77% of stains from cotton and 88% of stains from synthetics.

This model was slightly more economical than others. It’s more economical than our top scorers when washing and when drying cottons. It’s best on the synthetic programme, and despite taking a very long time, the combined wash and dry cycle didn’t use as much energy as others we’ve tested.

There’s an intensive wash option which can be utilised for even better stain removal. At the end of the cotton drying cycle, the clothes were creased and still damp, the synthetic cycle left the clothes only slightly damp but still with heavy creasing.

While slightly less advanced than the Beko washer-dryer in sixth place, this model has a basic yet clear display panel rather than an LCD screen. There was very little detergent residue left in the laundry, so this budget machine is a good choice if your skin is sensitive to washing detergents. Almost 75% of the stains were removed from cotton, which is average, but we were impressed that almost 92% of stains were removed from synthetics.

The cotton drying cycle left clothes very creased but almost perfectly dry. However, at the end of the synthetic drying cycle, the clothes were still damp. We were glad to find that this model does not tangle laundry. We had to wait a long time for the door to open at the end of the cycles, which some may find annoying.

Like the other Beko model on our list, the energy consumption was neither high nor low on our wash and dry tests. However, unlike the sixth place model, this tumble dryer scored full marks for energy consumption on the combined cycle, but you’ll have to wait over eight hours for it to finish.

This is one of the newest models in the Samsung tumble dryer range and, while not cheap, this model features the “AddWash” option that allows you to pause some wash programmes and add in anything you may have forgotten. The higher scoring Samsung model doesn’t have this feature. Plus, there’s also an app that can be downloaded on Apple and Android phones. The app is user-friendly, and allows you to start, pause, and cancel wash and dry programmes offering extra control when out of the house.

This machine performed very well on stain removal tests, removing an impressive 80% of stains from cotton fabrics and 90% of stains from synthetics. This excellent stain removal coupled with the large 9kg capacity makes it a great choice for large families.

When it comes to energy efficiency, this model was slightly more economical than average on separate wash and dry cycles. However, unlike the other Samsung model, this tumble dryer scored full marks for efficiency on the combined wash and dry cycle.

Sadly, this model disappointed with its drying performance. The “auto cupboard dry” setting left our cotton and synthetic fabrics damp and they needed a lot of extra time to fully dry, but you can use the manual drying option to specify the drying time instead.

Washing and drying machines – reviews of the owners.

Advantages:

God, this is brilliant! Two drums – just the solution to all problems!

Drawbacks:

Comment:

There is no place (and, frankly, money) for a washer-dryer column, so such a machine is a good compromise, it seemed to me. And there is no load limit, as in single-drum washer-dryers.

And a very cool control panel! It bribed me and inclined my choice from a similar Hayer model. Until I regret it)

Advantages:

you take out already dry clothes, you can reload during work, it washes very high quality

Drawbacks:

Everything is fine

Comment:

The model is modern and thoughtful. Finally, the problem with forgotten things is solved, here they can be thrown after launch. Drying saves a lot of time in the morning, I take out a clean thing and iron it right away.

Advantages:

The machine is definitely worth the money. Huge load volume, a large number of washing modes for all needs. Quite economical in terms of electricity consumption. A large number of protection functions, the main plus is loading up to 8 kg, optimal for a large family. Wash quality is excellent. There are more than enough programs. Spinning 1400 rpm, even when fully loaded, squeezes almost dry. And if you wash the laundry and put 5 kilograms of the washed, then the machine will dry it completely dry. At the same time, the linen does not dry out, it does not strongly doubt, and later it is perfectly smoothed out. Synthetics can be immediately cleaned in the closet.

Drawbacks:

Not very happy with the fact that we wash more than we can dry later. Therefore, you have to adjust or put less laundry in the wash.

Comment:

The machine is cool, many programs for washing, for any type of fabric you can choose. Water, electricity and powder are economical. Washes perfectly even the most soiled things, rinses and dries well too. All modes can be adjusted, the display shows full information. The drum is roomy, it even washed a huge and heavy blanket, pulled it without difficulty. Fitted into our kitchen. Noisy, not annoying.

Advantages:

A very worthy washing machine, firstly it is built-in, which has a huge plus, it’s exactly the one we looked like that, it has three different special drying programs built in, it’s very practical and very convenient. Secondly, it is very roomy, it has a large load, there is a reload mode, it wrings out all the laundry very well, and quietly, it works really very quietly. Management is simple and very convenient, there are a lot of programs for washing and all of them are really very necessary and very effective. A convenient compartment for loading washing powder, the powder does not remain on the linen, it rinses very cool, and very high quality. , this is also nice, there is a delay start and a foam control system, so that the machine would wash things in water with the addition of powder and not just in one foam. The cost is normal adequate, of course, like everyone would like it to be cheaper, but in principle they agree with the cost.

Drawbacks:

Well, as I said, of course, the cost would be less, but we understand that this will not happen, especially since the quality of the washing machine is very high, and pricing is understandable in this case. So in general, there is nothing bad, so far we have not found it, let’s see what happens next

Comment:

We are very glad that in the end we settled on this option. I confess that there were a lot of options, I wanted exactly another washing machine, one of our options. But we looked at the reviews on the Internet, read the reviews, and the sales manager advised us this particular washing machine, well, we agreed. They brought it, helped install it (for which special thanks) and then I realized that I was wrong and I really liked it! Of course, there were fears in the first months that something would not be pleasant, but in the end we liked everything, we have not yet found any cons! Thanks a lot! I am very happy and satisfied with my purchase! I advise you to consider! Great washer and dryer!

Advantages:

This model is the most modern at the moment. It’s not cheap, but worth the money. The quality of washing and drying is far ahead of other devices, everything washes and dries perfectly. White things do not get gray and always wash perfectly. The functionality of the car is great. There are so many programs that you can wash whatever you want in the machine. Works quite quietly. Does not create discomfort.

Drawbacks:

There are no significant shortcomings in this model. It can only be noted its great value. There is nothing more.

Comment:

Bought the car about a year ago. We decided to buy a reliable, strong, therefore, purchased this model. We liked it right away. The first impression is its design and appearance. It is cool, you can immediately see that this is a modern device. It has electronic control. The machine has the ability to automatically determine the weight of the laundry, based on this, select the amount of water to fill and the appropriate program. In this regard, the machine consumes water and electricity very economically. The washing quality is good. The linen is always clean. After washing, all linen can be dried, therefore, it is not necessary to carry linen somewhere to hang it to dry. Drying quality, linen does not lose its appearance. The capacity of the car is large, perfect for large families. When washing, the machine holds up to 10 kilograms of laundry, and when drying, six. But, in such machines, the capacity for drying and washing is always different. This does not affect the result of her work. I recommend this car to everyone, this is the best option!

Comment:

8 out of 10

Advantages:

Great option. In this machine, you can not only wash clothes, but also dry them. Perfect for those who do not have a place to dry or for families with children. Both washing and drying are always of excellent quality. The machine washes and does not make a lot of noise, does not jump around the bathroom. This is a very reliable technique.

Drawbacks:

Different maximum load for washing and drying.

Comment:

The car is awesome! Works great. Washes everything perfectly, even old stains from children’s things. And socks after washing become snow-white. Very good car, I recommend this model to everyone.

Advantages:

Cool, modern washing machine with a large availability of programs and functions. It has a classic front loading, maximum load up to 9kilogram. The car is perfect for a family of 5 people or more. Washes qualitatively, the extraction is excellent, the linen is always clean and almost dry.

Drawbacks:

It is necessary to clean the filter often, then the machine will wash and wring better.

Comment:

I am very pleased with the washer. The old machine did not wash so well. Almost all stains are washed off in this model. During operation, there is no strong noise and the machine does not jump all over the bathroom.

Advantages:

Machine two in one. She washes and dries clothes. It performs both functions perfectly, during operation it does not shake and does not jump around the bathroom.

Drawbacks:

Different load weight of laundry during washing and drying, but we get out of the situation, we put less in the wash.

Comment:

This is a great option for those who have nowhere to dry their laundry. We got tired of the floor dryer, which is constantly in the room, so we bought this machine. it is certainly expensive, but in order to live in comfort, we spared no expense. I recommend, the device is very good.

Advantages:

I was looking for exactly the two-in-one option in order to save space and to have a built-in, it is always beautiful when the appliances are hidden, but this, of course, is in my opinion. It suits in terms of volume, in terms of the quality of washing and drying, too, but here is a subtle point, you still need to understand what things can be washed together, the result is completely different, if it fits wisely or not

Drawbacks:

there is only one caveat that, unlike two separate devices, you cannot start both washing and drying, that is, you have to wait until the machine finishes everything in order to fill a new cycle. But I do not regret that I did not buy separate

Washer-dryer – reviews of customers and specialists

Reviews of washing machines with dryers are invariably of interest to potential buyers of a new home assistant with a hitherto unknown function. It just so happened that consumers trust more those who have already used this product, even if their opinion is sometimes biased. As part of this publication, we made a selection of real reviews from people who have been using washer-dryers for some time and have already managed to form an opinion about them. Here are the reviews.

LG

Elvira, 29 years old

My husband and children have been living in the Moscow region for 5 years. Housing conditions have become much better than at the time when we had to rent housing in Moscow and now you can afford a lot, but some habits, as they say, do not let go. The fact is that while living in Moscow, I got used to using a tumble dryer, since there was nowhere to dry clothes. Now we live in a private house, you can dry things outside, but I still prefer convenience, so after a short meeting, after looking at the reviews about the washing machine with dryer, my husband brought me a new LG F1255RDS7 washing machine. The equipment, of course, is not cheap, but I am very satisfied. The washing machine has a lot of advantages:

  • a very large drum, as much as 17 kg of laundry, in my case it’s just the perfect size, since we have three small children;

I didn’t understand it right away, but you should keep in mind and don’t repeat my mistakes, 17 kg is the maximum load that concerns washing, you can only dry 9 kg of laundry.

  • the laundry dries perfectly, you can select the gentle drying mode and then the machine leaves things a little damp, so that they can immediately be ironed;
  • consumes much less energy compared to my old dryer, I was even surprised if you believe the technical documentation, it eats 2. 7 kWh, while the old machine consumed 12 kWh, it gets tangible savings;
  • a bunch of different programs that allow you to wash children’s down jackets, and blankets, and many other large things, I have never washed woolen clothes in the car before, now, thanks to the “Hand wash wool” function, I forgot what real hand washing is and what it is bliss;

I also liked the “Reduce Washing Time” option, now you can shorten any program if it seems to you that it takes an unreasonably long time, a couple of button presses and here is a program that should “wash” the laundry for 2.5 hours, it will do the washing, rinse and dry in 1.5 hours.

Be careful, washing quality may be affected by changing the program time.

The machine has a very beautiful design, an informative dashboard, in general, I am very, very satisfied. Without exaggeration, this is the best washer I have ever come across. I advise everyone!

Karim, 42 years old

Zhenya liked the dryer for a long time, but we still could not buy it. There were always some reasons: either it’s expensive, or you don’t like the models, or you don’t feel like buying at all. But now, six months ago, they decided to buy a washing machine with a built-in dryer LG F14U1JBh3N, for as much as 1230 dollars. I will not hide that I was worried before buying, and suddenly the machine turns out to be bad, so much money wasted, but my feelings soon disappeared, and they were replaced by a feeling of deep satisfaction.

Immediately after the purchase, as an experiment, they loaded two sets of bed linen and some small items. We put on a long program of washing cotton with drying, and went to watch a movie. The film is over, and the machine has already washed and dried everything, it remains only to get the pastel from the drum and stroke it – it’s just fantastic. Oh, how nice it would be if the washing machine could also iron things, it would be simply priceless.

What else can I say about our LG F14U1JBh3N. Firstly, the machine is not to say that it is quiet, but not very loud either. In general, for those who are looking for a quiet model, I will say: our previous Hotpoint-Ariston was quieter, but it did not have so many functions, and most importantly, there was no drying. Secondly, the machine has a decent load of 10.5 kg, which is very convenient, you can wash large items at home and save on dry cleaning. Thirdly, the machine has a beautiful, futuristic appearance, touch control completes the picture. Personally, I really like it.

Tatyana, 31 years old Volgograd

A year ago I went on maternity leave for the second time. You understand diapers, undershirts, sliders, a whole mountain of washing every day, and in fact, in addition to the baby, there is also a five-year-old child who does not diminish homework at all. My husband works for days, but still manages to help well. He looked at how I was “fluffing” with two children and a bunch of laundry that was drying all over the house and decided to give me a washing machine with a drying function LG F12U1HDM1N. The husband explained that this was an inexpensive and reliable model, which was advised to him by a familiar specialist.

At first, I decided to quibble a bit and look for flaws, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t find it. Electronic control is very clear. The washing mode is easy to choose, you learn to manage it almost immediately. Quite roomy, for two bookmarks it is possible to wash almost everything. The main thing is that there is no laundry on the dryers, no dampness in the house, since things are dried right in the drum. My friend scared me that things would stink after a washer-dryer, but in reality they smell like air conditioning, at least I didn’t notice anything unpleasant, although I don’t complain about problems with smell.

The car has a bunch of, from my point of view, unnecessary functions like diagnostics using a smartphone, but I just don’t use them, and the rest of the functions are very much in demand. LG F12U1HDM1N is an excellent washing machine that has solved the most unpleasant household problems.

Electrolux

Alexander, 34 years old Pskov

2 months ago “the devil pulled” me to buy an Electrolux EWW51476WD washing machine with dryer. At first, it seemed that the drying function was cool, but it turned out not to be cool at all. I overpaid about $ 350 for it, but in the end I don’t use it at all, I dry things on the balcony. A couple of times I tried to dry things in the drum, but it turned out that after such drying they begin to exude a pungent smell of plastic, I had to give up this disastrous business.

I can’t judge all washing machines with a drying function, I haven’t used it, but Electrolux EWW51476WD is definitely complete nonsense. The materials from which it is made are clearly not of high quality, especially plastic , the electronics are sometimes buggy, in addition, the manufacturer clearly overestimated the maximum load of laundry. And for all this they ask for 1,000 dollars, and her “red price” is two hundred on a market day. Absolutely dissatisfied with the purchase, I do not advise anyone.

I checked, 7 kg, it does not erase at all, it pulls out a maximum of 6 kg, put a little more, it starts to freeze.

Elena, 27 years old

With the purchase of the Electrolux EWW51696SWD washing machine, my life has changed for the better. It looks like an advertising slogan, but it’s true. How I suffered when I had to hang clothes in the apartment every time. These endless ropes, drying, how tired it all is, it seems that we live in a communal apartment, but in reality we have a three-ruble note in the city center.

Unfortunately, the windows and the balcony face the polluted street. It’s more expensive to dry clothes there, so you had to endure the neighborhood with “garlands” of wet things. Now all this is in the past, because now I take things out of the drum completely dry. As disadvantages, I can point out that Electrolux EWW51696SWD is quite noisy during the spin cycle. I tried to put the wash at night, but “the number didn’t work”, the washing machine woke up all the household members.

Candy

Anastasia, Saratov

We needed a washing machine with a drying function and inexpensive. The choice fell on Candy GVW45 385TC-07. Outwardly, nothing special, very similar to other washing machines from the line of conventional machines from Kandy, but the quality, surprisingly, pleased. Particularly surprised by the almost complete absence of the smell of plastic. Neither after washing nor after drying things do not acquire extraneous odors, only a little smell of powder. There are many washing programs, but I only use a few.

After the first start, I really didn’t like the rattling during spinning and drying, but it turned out that the problem was not in the machine, but in the crooked hands of the workers who installed it. I called others, they put it on the level for me and strengthened the floor, the rattling almost disappeared. The load of laundry is quite sufficient – 8 kg, however, only 4 kg can dry the machine, although 5 kg is stated in the passport – this is not true. In general, a very good washing machine, which really made life easier, I recommend it to everyone.

Sergey, 45 years old Moscow

I have absolutely no luck with dryers. First I bought an expensive drying cabinet, in which all the electrics and electronics burned out after a month due to a power surge. Then there was the dryer, which fatally broke down six months later. My wife jokes that I will soon be working on one household appliance. Finally, I bought a Candy GVW45 385TC-07 washing machine with a drying function and for the second year now, pah-pah, it has been working without failures. I like the washer.

  1. The drum contains a lot of laundry. 8 kg total and 5 kg for drying.
  2. The drum spins very fast, judging by the passport, 1300 rpm.
  3. Includes touch screen and electronic controls.
  4. A bunch of functions that I still can’t figure out. Among them: anti-allergy, children’s things, curtains, soaking, washing wool and others.
  5. In the arsenal of the washing machine there is a delayed start as much as 23 hours, which I often use.

I am often away from home for a long time, the delayed start helps when you need to accurately calculate the start time of the washer. The main thing is that nothing breaks through and the neighbors are not flooded, and so, everything is fine.

Cons: noisy, vibrates a lot when spinning, rustic in appearance. This design is typical for inexpensive washing machines, which Candy GVW45 385TC-07 is. I paid $760 for it. I think the price is even a bit too high, although the model can be recommended, especially for young families.

In conclusion, we note that carefully reading people’s reviews of washing machines with dryers, we can conclude that not everything in this technique suits users.
