Sing A Family Friendly Song
La La La La La La, sing a happy song! It’s an intro will never forget for not only its ability to get stuck in my head, but also for the show it represents. The Smurfs’ legacy has extended over the decades into a plethora of forms primarily in the TV shows and movies of the 80s. After a six-year hiatus from the live action movies, the blue creatures return to the silver screen to try to regain footing. Will the new style work, or does it fall much like the character Clumsy Smurf? Robbie K here with a review on the Smurfs: The Lost Village. Let’s get started.
LIKES: Animation style works Feels like a Smurfs Adventure Surprisingly emotions Soundtrack
Summary: When I saw the trailers for this film, I had my doubts after seeing the definition the live action movies did. Fortunately, the animation works and feels more Smurf like than the previous movies. Our cast of blue minis has fluid movement and style that is representative of the classic series, as the colorful world and all its creatures pop in the same happy, righteous style they capture all those years ago. However, the animation is not the only thing that represents the classic style. The adventure of Lost Village is representative of the classic Smurfs cartoon, filled with epic silliness and kid friendly action for all to enjoy. Much of the audience targeted by this film, will enjoy all the quirky jokes and simplistic scenes, sure to feel their hearts fill with joy at all the happiness packed in this movie. This movie isn’t all sunshine and rainbows though, as the film has a little more emotional punch than I expected, with a few sequences well-crafted to derail the ecstasy this movie elates. And if all that isn’t enough to convince you the movie is fun, then the soundtrack will certainly bring this point home. You will certainly find the musical numbers full of energy and may find yourself dancing in your seat
like me. Not the most unique, but the tracks picked for this film are quite perfect for the scene and would be one CD to pick up.
DISLIKES Rushed at times Lost Potential Anticlimactic Ending Gargamel not as funny
Summary: Smurfs adventures have never been long, but when in cartoon series form you had plenty of episodes to tell a complete story. Not the case for this film. Sure, they wrap up a lot of the ties, but many times the film seems rushed, leaving things underdeveloped in an attempt to cram everything into the short run time. While I give the editing props, I also sigh at the lost potential of this movie. Lost Village does a nice job showing off the Forbidden Forest and giving us some unique flora and fauna to the world. Yet, the trek could have had a few more obstacles for the heroes to challenge before getting to their goal. Not that big a deal, okay how about the fact that some of your favorite Smurfs have been tossed to the secondary bin including Papa Smurf the legendary leader. If that still isn’t enough, then how about the fact the new tribes of Smurf girls are very underdeveloped. After a cool introduction and sweet styled montage, the girl Smurfs are almost as useless as Gargamel’s jokes. No cool moves, no special magic, and almost very little importance to the plot, the girl Smurfs tribe really could have been taken further to make it worth all the casting they did for voices and the money they spent. And because of their minor involvement, and a predictable story line, the exciting climax at the end
was so climactic as it was an animated light show. Had I not had to struggle through the forced comedy of Gargamel, that often devolved into mindless, one directional banter, that few above the age of seven will enjoy. Really missed Hank Azaria’s delivery and writing on this one.
The Verdict:
The Smurfs Lost Village is a nice reintroduction of the gang back into the modern world with the feel, design, and energy the show always had. However, the lost potential, rushed development, and anticlimactic moments certainly took away from all the potential the movie could have brought. Perhaps instead of a movie, the Smurfs should have been picked up by Netflix and the show restarted for the new generation of streamers. Needless to say, this movie isn’t so much theater worthy (outside of music and animation) and would recommend waiting for this one to hit home.
My scores are:
Animation/Adventure/Comedy: 6.5 Movie Overall: 5.0

Will The Live-Action Sequel Happen?
The first two movies brought them into the real world but will The Smurfs 3 ever happen? The Smurfs started life as a Belgian comic series in 1958, and soon became a franchise that covered TV shows, movies, and toys. The animated Smurfs series by Hanna-Barbera is probably the most popular incarnation of the series, which ran on NBC from 1981 to 1989.
Sony later produced The Smurfs’ first live-action movie in 2011, which brought the title characters to life with CGI. The movie was directed by Raja Gosnell – who helmed the first two live-action Scooby-Doo movies – and boasted an eclectic voice cast that included Neil Patrick Harris, Katy Perry, and Sofía Vergara. The movie received some savage reviews but was a sizable hit for the studio, grossing over $560 million worldwide. The Smurfs 2 quickly followed in 2013, which added Christina Ricci, and Brendan Gleeson (Mr. Mercedes) to the cast.

The Smurfs 2 also received terrible reviews though its gross was noticeably lower. Sony originally announced a trilogy of live-action adventures, so is The Smurfs 3 still being planned?
The Smurfs 3 Was Cancelled In 2014
The Smurfs 3 was originally put in development when production commenced on the second movie. The third entry was earmarked for release in 2015, only for Sony to later confirm the movie had been cancelled. No plot details for The Smurfs 3 were ever revealed, and it’s possible it was scrapped due to the combination of the franchise’s dire critical reception and the second movie’s lower gross.
Smurfs: The Lost Village Rebooted The Franchise
Instead of The Smurfs 3, the series was rebooted with Smurfs: The Lost Village in 2017. This animated adventure was directed by Kelly Asbury (Gnomeo & Juliet), with a voice cast that featured Demi Lovato, Julia Roberts, and Mandy Patinkin. Patinkin took over the role of Papa Smurf from actor Jonathan Winters, who passed away before the release of The Smurfs 2.
Smurfs: The Lost Village was something of an origin tale, and leaned closer in spirit to the original comic and TV series than the live-action movies. The Lost Village was a comfortable financial success and while it didn’t receive great reviews either, it received a slightly warmer reception than the previous movies.
A Smurfs 3D TV Series Will Arrive In 2020
While no new movies appear to be in the works, a new Smurfs series is set to arrive in 2020. Like Smurfs: The Lost Village, the new show will feature 3D animation, with each episode running around 11 minutes. Given the amount of time that’s passed since the second live-action adventure was released, its doubtful Sony will ever revisit The Smurfs 3.

The Smurfs 3 – the release date of the continuation of the family film
The comedy film “The Smurfs / The Smurfs” was released in 2011. It grossed over $500 million at the box office. So a sequel came out two years later. The second part of The Smurfs, although it could not repeat the success of the first film, was also liked by the audience. And many of them are still waiting for the continuation of the story – The Smurfs 3. During this time, two more feature films about funny blue men were shot. But they are separate stories, not a continuation.

What happened in the first movie
The Smurfs live in a magical village. One day, Papa Smurf has a vision. He sees the evil wizard Gargamel, who brings evil to all the villagers. Papa Smurf is trying to prevent a catastrophe. Clumsy Smurf accidentally leads Gargamel to the village. And then he runs to the Forbidden Falls. The rest of the Smurfs try to stop him. But they are caught in a big whirlwind. And they end up in a New York park. And they are followed by Gargamel and Azrael.
In town, the Smurfs meet Patrick and Grace Winslow and stay at their apartment. Papa Smurf is trying to figure out how to get home. Meanwhile, Gargamel is looking for them. The Smurfs go in search of a bookstore where they can find the spell they need. It will help them find their way to their village.
Gargamel gets to the store first. He finds the dragon’s wand. With the help of his wand, he manages to capture Papa Smurf. The rest he managed to send to a safe place. But friends are not going to leave Papa Smurf in trouble. They go looking for him. They manage to defeat evil.
The plot of The Smurfs 2
Two years pass. Gargamel is now a celebrity. He surprises people with his abilities. The sorcerer creates Bad Boys, very similar to the Smurfs. Gargamel calls them Splinter and Sturdy. They must help him master the magical power of the Smurfs.
But only a real Smurf can control the force. And to make Bad Boys like this, you need an update. It can be carried out by Smurfette. To do this, Gargamel kidnaps Smurfette and takes him to Paris. eiffel tower
Should become a kind of antenna. All the Smurfs go to Paris to save Smurfette and thwart the plans of the evil sorcerer.
Characters in the film
Papa Smurf is the head of the Smurf family. Reasonable, kind, always tries to protect other Smurfs. Has magical powers. Wears a red hat and pants.
Smurfette is a kind and cheerful Smurf girl. She was created by Gargamel to do bad things to the rest of the Smurfs. But later she confessed to Papa Smurf that she didn’t want to be bad. Papa Smurf changed her.
Grumpy is a very kind Smurf. But he likes to grumble about everything.
Clutzer – everything falls out of his hands, that’s why he was called that. Grace Winslow loves him the most.
Daredevil is a Smurf who always wears a kilt. He speaks with a Scottish accent. The bravest in the village.
Handsome — loves himself very much, constantly admires his reflection in the mirror.
Blogger is a very smart Smurf.
Reasonable – smart, but too boring.
Gargamel is an evil sorcerer. Constantly wants to get the power owned by the Smurfs.
Thorn and Robust are bad guys created by Gargamel.
Azrael – Gargamel’s cat.
Grace and Patrick Winslow are a couple who adopted the Smurfs in New York. They have a son, Blue.
Interesting facts
- The first film at the box office earned 563 million dollars on a budget of 110 million.
- The second film was not as successful. With a budget of 105 million, he collected 347 million.
- In 2011, the short film The Smurfs: A Christmas Carol was released.
- In 2017, viewers were able to watch the movie The Smurfs: The Lost Village. It became a reboot of the franchise.
The Smurfs 3 release date
Will The Smurfs 3 ever be made? We probably won’t see a sequel. The second part failed. And the death of Jonathan Winters, who voiced Papa Smurf, finally put an end to this issue. It is possible that the franchise will be rebooted again, but that will be a completely different story.
