With the wall screen for the projector, ViewScreen uses unique technical solutions. Each model of screens clearly corresponds to the characteristics of the equipment, the features of the room. That’s why we offer a wide range of wall mounted projector screens. Stationary placement of equipment involves the use of a wall-mounted screen. It is perfectly compatible with a home theater system that justifies its permanent presence, eliminating the need for regular disassembly.
To choose a wall screen for projectors, it is necessary to take into account the technical characteristics of the ViewScreen equipment, the dimensions of the location. The type determines the proportions, the aspect ratio of the screen. When choosing home theater systems, a 16:9 width-to-height ratio is preferred. Projection wall screens used for presentations may have an aspect ratio of 4:3 or 16:10, depending on the type of playback device. It is necessary to take into account such parameters of the wall screen as the brightness of the image, the location of the equipment, the level of illumination. If these interrelated factors optimally complement each other, the image will be ideal, in order to achieve this, we advise you to get professional advice when choosing a wall screen for the projector.
The ViewScreen projector screen is not a complex technical device, but when choosing it, the number of parameters taken into account can be daunting. It is worth consulting with experts on how to choose the right type of wall screen, according to the viewing angle, gain, assess whether an extradrop is necessary – a black field when lowered to the desired height from the floor.
The main advantage of a wall-mounted projector screen is its appearance. Standard models of screens are reminiscent of analogues of cinemas that are familiar to our eyes, creating a unique atmosphere of expectation of viewing. The similarity is strengthened by the fact that the screen is a wall-mounted direct (frontal) projection, which requires an adjustable level of illumination. The gain is 1-1.2, so the lighting will have to be dimmed. In this way, wall-mounted projector screens differ from analogues that have a higher gain but a smaller viewing angle.
Choosing the right screen for your projector
The projection screen is an integral part of any presentation or home theater. Despite the fact that no matter how excellent the projector is, the image is projected onto a surface that should provide an ideal image of graphics and texts.
Choosing the right projection screen is important, as the screen is the final component in the chain of an audiovisual installation, necessary to obtain the highest quality projection image. Perhaps projecting onto a plain wall will deliver the picture, but it will never deliver the bright and uniform image that only a projection screen guarantees.
Projection screens must meet the following requirements:
- A flat surface onto which an image is projected.
The projection screen must provide a flat surface to reflect the projected image towards the audience without distorting the content. This is essential to achieve a focused and detailed image.
- Large image. Projection helps produce very large images for very large audiences. We offer projection screens that take into account the impressive capabilities of most sophisticated projectors.
- Uniform image. An even distribution of light on the projection screen is important to obtain a uniform image with a wide viewing angle in the desired direction.
A projection screen should serve two purposes: to reproduce visual information without loss of image quality, and to distribute the projection light in the direction of the audience. Modern projection screens have a wide choice of projection cloths. To enhance or preserve the image, each projection plane has its own features that help to convey the image in different conditions. The projection surface has a reflective coating that directs the projected light towards the audience and ensures an even distribution of light. This is what makes choosing the right projection surface an important part of planning an audiovisual installation.
Every situation is unique and the right choice of projection screen is also influenced by factors such as room lighting, the location and brightness of the projector, and the number and placement of spectators.
Three steps to choose the right projector screen
1. Screen type
There are four types of projection screens:
- electric projection screens
- manual projection screens
- portable projection screens
- stationary tension screens
Portable projection screens are best suited for mobile presentations in various locations. If the projection room is permanent, then you can choose between a framed tension screen or an electrically or manually operated roll screen, depending on your personal preference and budget.
Electric projection screens
In motorized screens, the folding and unfolding of the projection screen occurs with the help of an electric drive built into the body of the projection screen. Thanks to the use of an electric drive, a uniform tension of the projection canvas on the screen shaft is ensured, which protects the canvas from damage and preserves its durability. Screens with electric control are fixed permanently. The modern design of such screens allows them to be mounted on the wall and to carry out hidden ceiling and floor installations.
The latest design solutions for electrically controlled screens provide ample opportunities for their use in various interiors. You can control such screens from anywhere in the room using a remote control, as well as integrate them into the overall control system of the audiovisual complex. If you need a large screen for a conference room, large auditoriums or meeting rooms, then an electrically controlled screen is the best choice.
Some motorized screens come with an optional tensioning system that supports the screen both vertically and horizontally, creating an evenly flat surface for the projected image.
If the design of your apartment or office does not allow you to place the screen on the wall or ceiling, then the best solution is to install a recessed screen. The screen housing is installed in the ceiling and when assembled it is almost invisible.
Manual projection screens
In manual screens, as the name suggests, the web is unfolded manually, and the return to the screen body is carried out by a return spring mechanism. The quality of the return mechanism determines the uniformity of the winding of the web, the reliability of its fixation at the required height, as well as the speed and smoothness of folding. Manual screens are easy to maintain and low cost. They are successfully used in education when equipping school classrooms or at home. Just like motorized screens, they are designed to be permanently mounted on a wall or ceiling.
Mobile or portable projection screens
Mobile screens have a light and compact design. Unlike other types of screens, they can be easily and quickly folded and put away in a case, due to which this type of screen is in great demand at road presentations, seminars, exhibitions, etc.
Tension screens on frame
In tension screens, the canvas is evenly stretched using elastic cables or other tension systems around the entire perimeter of the frame. This design allows you to get a perfectly flat surface over the entire area of the projection surface and provides an image of impeccable quality. Tension screens on the frame are used both in home theaters and in large cinema halls.
2. ASPECT
Depending on which projection method is used, the image will have a certain width-to-height ratio. A black border around the screen is used to enhance the contrast of the projected image and frame the image. In order for the projected image to be within the black border, the projection screen size must match the projector’s aspect ratio.
The most common formats:
Format 4:3 – Television and computer format used previously. Currently used for office presentations
16:10 Format – The professional presentation equipment format currently used. The format has grown rapidly over the past few years. If the 4:3 and 16:9 formats were originally considered cinematic, then the 16:10 format appeared due to the need to comply with computer technology standards. The use of such screens allows you to play content from a computer or laptop, and at the same time, the pictures displayed on the monitor or laptop screen will fully correspond to the image on the projection screen.
16:9 format – HDTV format. This is the TV format currently in use. The format quickly gained popularity due to the rapid development of high-definition digital widescreen television. The 16:9 aspect ratio screens are suitable for today’s DVD movies, high-definition television and satellite channels.
The 2.35:1 aspect ratio is a cinematic format that has become the industry standard. Such screens are most often used in professional cinemas, cinemas and premium home theaters.
1:1 Aspect Ratio – A universal format that allows you to view the image in the format of most signal sources. If necessary, the screen format can be easily adjusted to the format of the signal source by changing their vertical size

3. SCREEN SIZE
To determine the size of the projection screen, carefully inspect the room. The size of the projection screen is influenced by the size of the room and the location of the audience. Please note that the screen should be selected based on the position of the audience, not the projector. In order for everyone in the room to see the screen, you need to choose the right screen size. This is necessary so that everyone can see all the details of the projection. The use of high-resolution projectors in most systems provides a high-quality image with excellent detail. This high resolution also means smaller fonts and images, which also means choosing the correct projection screen size. The InfoComm international standard recommends the following rules for determining the correct projection screen size:
Aspect ratio 16:10 and 16:9 (HDTV)
The diagonal of the projection screen for your room can be easily calculated by dividing its length by two.
Aspect ratio 2.35:1 (Cinemascope)
In order to determine the correct screen size for the 2.35:1 standard, a simple rule can be used. The height of the screen should be equal to 1/4 of the distance from the screen to the last row of spectators.
Aspect ratio 4:3
In order to determine the correct screen size for the 4:3 standard, you can use a simple rule. The height of the screen should be equal to 1/6 of the distance from the screen to the last row of spectators.
It is also necessary to take into account:
- Ceiling height. Ceiling height must always be considered as it is often the limiting factor
- Comfortable viewing height. When using the screen for professional or educational purposes, the distance between the floor and the viewing area of the projection screen should be approximately 125 cm. This will ensure comfortable viewing for back row viewers as well. Depending on the height of the ceiling, if a projection screen is attached to it, a black frame may also be needed. In the case of home viewing, the height should be between 60 and 90 cm
- Comfortable distance from the viewer to the screen. When using the screen for professional or educational purposes, the distance from the front row of viewers to the screen should be approximately 1.5 times the height of the screen. In the case of home viewing, the distance from the first row of viewers to the screen should be approximately 2 times its height.
