The press service of the reserve noted that in fact there is no connection between the phases of the Earth’s satellite and the wolf’s howl. Wolves have a “roll call” at night because they are nocturnal. The main goal of their howling is to be heard.

“When wolves raise their muzzles up, it’s not because they’re looking at the moon, it’s because they’re trying to get better acoustics. Raising the muzzle helps the movement of the sound. When their calls are directed upwards, the sound covers a larger area, ”said the reserve staff.

The variety of sounds and frequency range of wolves exceed the capabilities of most animals. They can howl, howl, whimper, grumble, growl, yelp, squeal and bark. And each of these sounds has a huge number of variations.
