Wyze Cam v3 is equipped with a starlight sensor that allows the camera to see color in extremely low light conditions, allowing you to see full color at night.

Yes, absolutely. The v3 cam is rated for indoor and outdoor use.

While viewing the Live Stream, simply turn Night Vision off. A small amount of light is needed to create a clear image, but a street light outside or even a nightlight is enough. If your environment is pitch black, consider picking up our spotlight kit to help illuminate the scene.

The Starlight CMOS sensor is a sensor that is very sensitive to light. It allows the v3 to use extremely low light to create an astonishingly clear image.

We’ve improved the volume of the speaker so that it can be used as a siren, which is loud so you can use it to ward off intruders. Control the Siren feature from the Wyze app.

Yes, Wyze Cam v3 is powered by a USB cable but connects to the Internet via 2. 4GHz WiFi.

No, the v3 does not support 5GHz WiFi. It supports 2.4GHz networks.

1920x1080p Full HD

The v3 does not support the Wyze Sense Bridge, but a standalone Wyze Sense Hub will be launched in the near future. You may keep on using Wyze Cam v2 or Wyze Cam PAN to support the current Wyze Sense Bridge.

No, Wyze Cam v3 is powered via a USB cable.

Wyze Cam V3 Review | The PCMag

Wyze Cam V3 represents the third generation of affordable home security cameras and, like previous models, offers a host of features at an incredibly low price of $19.99. In addition to clear 1080p video, free cloud storage, local storage, and compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands, this new version supports IFTTT, color night vision, intelligent motion detection, higher frame rates, and more. This is an exceptional surveillance camera for inside or outside your home, and the fact that it only costs $20 makes it easy to recommend it as an Editors’ Choice Award winner for affordable security cameras.

Editor’s Note: At the time of this writing, Wyze is experiencing availability issues with the Wyze Cam V3 due to a “global shortage of key materials such as silicone.” Because of this, it currently reserves inventory for the next two to three months for users who subscribe to the company’s Cam Plus service, so you won’t be able to find the camera right away.

More than ever

The Wyze Cam V3 is similar to the Wyze Cam V2, but there are slight differences. It has a square black camera face as opposed to the round face of the V2’s camera, and it has rounded edges as opposed to the V2’s sharp corners. In addition, the V3 has an IP65 weatherproof rating, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

The cube-shaped V3 measures 2.2 by 2.0 by 2.0 inches (WHD) and sits on a square base with a hinge that adds an additional 1.2 inches to the overall height when fully extended. The hinge provides 180 degree vertical rotation and the swivel mechanism provides 360 degree horizontal maneuverability.

The front of the camera contains the lens, microphone and LED indicator. The LED lights up blue when everything is connected and working properly, and flashes red and blue during setup. On the back of the camera is a speaker as well as a wired USB power cable, and on the bottom is a micro SD card slot and a reset button, both of which are protected by rubber covers.

Package includes camera, 6-foot USB power extension cable, USB power adapter, wall mount plate, mounting screws, and quick start guide.

The Wyze Cam V3 boasts several performance improvements over the V2. It uses a Starlight sensor that provides color night vision, and delivers 1080p video at 20fps with a 130-degree field of view. By comparison, the V2 offers black and white night vision, shoots video at 15fps, and has a 110-degree field of view. In addition, the V3 has a built-in 80 dB siren and can be used with the Wyze Spotlight Kit (9.99 USD) that attaches to the top of the camera and fires when the camera detects motion.

When the V3 detects motion or sound, it will record a 12-second clip and store it in the cloud for free for 14 days, but there is a 5-minute recovery period between events in which the camera will not record. However, if you install a 32GB microSD card (not included), you can enable 24-hour continuous recording, which allows you to view images in time-lapse mode.

The camera also supports people detection and will soon support vehicle, package and animal detection, but you will need a Wyze Cam Plus subscription to access these features. For $1.25 per month, Cam Plus gives you the smart motion detection features mentioned above in the form of a 14-day full length video history with no cooldown period.

Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant voice commands are supported, but Apple HomeKit integration is not. However, the V3 does work with IFTTT applets that allow it to be integrated with third-party smart home devices. You can also create rules to integrate the camera with other Wyze devices such as smart bulbs, motion sensors, and door locks.

The V3 camera uses the same mobile app (for Android and iOS) as all other Wyze devices. The Home screen contains panels for all of your installed Wyze products. Panel V3 contains a still image of the camera view and an on/off button. Tap the bar to start a live stream, which can be viewed in full screen by turning your phone sideways.

There are five buttons below the video panel. The Sound button mutes and unmutes the sound, while the Record button allows you to manually record video. The Talk button initiates a two-way conversation, and the Photo button takes a snapshot of the current image. Clicking the “More” button below the video screen opens a panel with buttons to enable motion tags, which place a box around anything that triggers the motion sensor; turn on the siren; view video on the timeline; view videos and photos in your album; and turn off the camera.

Tap the gear icon in the top right corner to access the settings screen where you can enable/disable motion and audio recording, set up notifications, adjust motion and audio detection sensitivity levels, adjust night vision settings, and enable SD card recording . Here you can also enable settings where the camera will start recording and send a push notification when it detects a smoke sound or a CO alarm. Use the Schedules and Automation settings to create rules for how the camera interacts with other Wyze devices and create notification schedules.

Superb performance

Like other Wyze products, the V3 is easy to install. Just download the mobile app, create an account and tap the plus icon in the top left corner of the home screen. Tap Add Device, then tap Cameras and select Wyze Cam V3 from the list.

Follow the on-screen instructions to connect the camera to a power outlet and check that the LED indicator is blinking red. Click “Next”, click the “Setup” button at the bottom of the camera, and when you hear “ready to connect”, click “Next” again in the app. Select your Wi-Fi network, enter your password, scan the QR code on your phone screen with Wyze Cam and wait until you hear “QR code scanned”. At this point, the camera will be added to your network and Alexa device list. Give the camera a name and you’re ready to go.

V3 performed well in testing. Daytime color quality is excellent, and 1080p video looks sharp and free of distortion. The color night vision feature also works well, but as we’ve seen with other cameras, the colors aren’t as vibrant as they are during the day or when the room is brightly lit.

Sound and motion detection are working properly, but you’ll want to lower the sensitivity levels on both to avoid background noise and motion alerts from small pets. Notifications come immediately after launch, and the recorded video is as clear as real-time. The camera does an excellent job of detecting human movement and responds seamlessly to Alexa voice commands to stream video to the Amazon Echo Show. My automation, which had the camera illuminate the Wyze bulb when motion was detected, also worked flawlessly.

Two-way audio is loud and clear enough, and the built-in siren is loud enough to be heard throughout the house.

Hard to beat

The Wyze Cam V3 is one of the most feature-packed home security cameras you can buy, even if you’re willing to spend more money. It not only provides high-quality 1080p video, but also offers color night vision, local and cloud storage, intelligent motion and sound detection, and voice control. It seamlessly integrates with other Wyze devices such as door locks, smart bulbs and sensors and supports IFTTT applets that allow it to work with numerous third party devices. Sure, it’s not as sharp as the Arlo Pro 3, which offers 2K resolution, but the Arlo costs $200 and requires a separate hub. If you want or need 2K video, Eufy Indoor Cam 2K for $51.99 is our best available choice, but it doesn’t support IFTTT and doesn’t work outdoors. For $20, you simply can’t get a better security camera than the Wyze Cam V3, for which it won an Editors’ Choice award.

Wyze Cam v3: Design and customization

Wyze Cam v3 Features

Wyze Cam v3: Performance

With a new product being released almost every day (as I write, they announced a handheld vacuum cleaner), Wyze’s employees have been incredibly busy since launching their first product in 2017. Luckily, they took the time to upgrade their flagship. the device is a $20 smart security camera: Wyze Cam v3.

Wyze Cam v3 is based on the previous version with a new look, more powerful hardware and many other upgrades.

The biggest of these is the IP65 rating, which turns this tiny camera into a powerful indoor and outdoor powerhouse.

  • Top Home Security Cameras
  • Best Budget Home Security Cameras

Another great upgrade is Full HD 1080p color night mode with an F1.6 aperture that captures twice as much light. The new lens also adds a wider 130-degree field of view to get an even better view of your surroundings.

A mini siren to alert intruders and a magnetic base complete the innovations, all of which complement existing features such as motion and sound detection, 24/7 continuous recording (with microSD card), person detection (for a fee), integration with Google and Alexa, free cloud storage and local storage option.

So how does this $20 camera compare to other budget security cameras like TP-Link’s Kasa Spot and Eufy’s 2K Indoor Cam?

And can it compete with the best smart security cameras like Arlo and Nest? Read our full review.

Wyze Cam v3: Design and Customization

With the same small footprint and incredibly lightweight build as the v2, the Wyze Cam v3 has a sleeker, more modern look, with rounded corners and a larger lens. It’s still all plastic, but is now all white (except for the black lens), while the v2 has a gray stand, giving the v3 a more solid look.

The stand has the same adjustment flexibility, allowing you to rotate the camera 360 degrees and tilt it back and forth to get almost any angle.

New in version 3 is the ability to remove the stand and mount the camera on a tripod.

You can also mount it to the wall with the included screw mount, or place it on a flat surface.

It needs to be plugged into a power source, of course (the $50 Wyze Cam Outdoor is the only battery-powered version offered), and while the camera and cable are weatherproof, the USB power adapter isn’t.

The reset button and SD card slot are hidden under the camera and covered with silicone plugs.

Another design difference is that the power cable is permanently connected to, well, half of it.

Presumably for weather protection, the camera has a short extension cable on the back with a USB port on the other end covered in silicone plastic.

This is where you connect the included Micro USB cable and then plug the other end into an internal socket. This feature makes it easy to replace v2 with v3 without having to rewire.

Unfortunately, the cable is also only 6 feet long, making it difficult to place outside without adding a waterproof extension cable. (Wyze is developing an external adapter to solve this problem, but it’s not yet available and no pricing has been announced.)

To set up your camera, open the Wyze app, click Add Device, and follow the instructions.

This is quick and easy and you should do this before placing the camera as you can use the app to check signal strength, key if you want to place the camera outdoors.

It has an impressive range for a camera without a hub and Wi-Fi. We were able to set it up by our chicken coop – a good 120 feet from our house – and could view the live stream without any problems.

Wyze Cam v3: Features

The Wyze Cam v3 is packed with features that even a $20+ camera would envy: 1080p HD video, color night vision, 80dB siren, simultaneous two-way talk, and customizable motion detection zone.

AI detection means that the camera can distinguish between people as well as movement (although this needs some work – more on that later) and in addition to motion-activated recording, it will record when it hears sound – which is not the case with other budget cameras. offer.

However, it will only record 12 seconds for each event with a 5 minute recovery period between events, which is a ridiculously long pause for a wired camera. Battery powered Blink cameras only require a 10 second re-trigger time.

To get rid of these limitations, you need to pay for Cam Plus, this gives you the ability to record at full height without recharging and detecting a person.

It starts at just $1.25 a month, and considering Wyze is one of the few cameras to offer free 14 days of cloud storage, that’s kind of a wash. But you really need Cam Plus to be able to use this camera as a security camera.

A few other noteworthy features are the ability to store locally with a microSD card (not included). It gives you continuous video recording and a cool timelapse feature.

The camera can also listen for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms when it is indoors and automatically record a clip when it hears them and send you an alert.

The app has many settings that you can adjust to get the most out of your camera, including adjusting motion and sound sensitivity, changing night vision mode, and adjusting IR light.

You can enable all important two-factor authentication (text or app based) to keep your camera hidden from prying eyes.

You can set up schedules, shortcuts, and triggers to turn the camera on and off based on time or events (for example, opening the front door if you have Wyze door and window sensors).

There’s no geofencing to automatically turn the camera off when you’re at home and turn it on when you’re away, but you can do it with robust IFTTT integration.

In addition to IFTTT, Wyze works with Alexa and Google Assistant, but this is limited to watching live on a smart display speaker or connected TV. With Alexa, you can add person detection to the camera as a trigger for treatments.

Wyze Cam v3: Performance

The Wyze Cam’s 1080p HD video is significantly better than its v2 predecessor and performs well indoors, with vibrant colors and good clarity.

There is no HDR, so areas with direct light can be a bit blown out, but the zoom works well and the picture is good.

However, when you go out into the street, everything is not so abrupt. While colors are good and contrast is decent, clarity is lacking, and if you zoom in even with a touch, everything falls apart into illegible pixels.

Color night vision is impressive, with good color reproduction and better clarity. It is ideal for covering a small area such as a front walkway or indoor entrance. But be aware that you lose some of the range with it.

We have found that regular night vision is more reliable when you want to see farther in a dark garden. You can switch between them in the app.

The Wyze app is a bit cluttered, especially if you have more than one device. As Wyze grew, so did its app, causing it to become bloated and obfuscated in places, a problem that the Ring app also has. This means it can be slow to load and difficult to navigate.

However, you get extended notifications where you can click on it and view the clip, so most of the time you might not open the app.

Also, when you click on a notification shortly after it happens, it will take you to the live feed with a scroll bar so you can scroll back in time to see what triggered it. This is a great feature that we would like more companies to adopt.

HSV budget competitor: Aqara G2H 9 internal camera review0206

The action will change if you click on the notification some time after receiving it, in which case you will go to the recorded video. Very clever.

Notifications are also very fast – it takes about 15 seconds from the moment of movement to the appearance of an alert. But there is So. A lot of. Alerts.

Definitely not human, Wise…

The combination of point AI and only one activity zone meant that during testing we received constant alerts when the camera was outside.

Leaves blowing, swings swinging, chickens clucking, they all identified as humans, bombarding us with warnings, even when we set it to only notify of “AI events” to reduce the number of notifications.

Indoors this was much less of a problem as the camera identified people more accurately. Given that Wyze hasn’t worked with outdoor cameras for a very long time, we expect things to improve as they get more data.

Also, Wyze says vehicle, pet, and package detection is coming soon, and we hope people detection will be improved with this update.

Another feature we really liked is the simultaneous two-way conversation. Latency and unstable connectivity can make talking through a push-to-talk security camera more than frustrating.

With Wyze Cam, when you press the microphone button, a phone call-like audio channel opens up, so you can communicate more naturally. In our testing, it performed very well, with no lag and clear audio.

Another option coming soon is the Spotlight Kit, which allows you to add a small motion-activated light source to your camera – a great feature if you plan to use this camera outdoors.

This is an excellent camera at an incredible price. It doesn’t have the sharpness and clarity of a 4K capable camera, but it doesn’t have a price tag either. As an easy, cheap and smart way to check out your home or garden, you just can’t beat the Wyze Cam v3. The main downside is limited smart home integration, Wyze is really guiding you towards being part of their ever growing smart home ecosystem and not anyone else’s.
