In our testing, we found that the SteelSeries Arctis 7X largely met this figure when gaming and enjoying media, though this set is definitely more suited to the former activity than the latter.

With a price tag of $149 / £174.99, the SteelSeries Arctis 7X isn’t exactly the cheapest Xbox Series X headset on the market, but we believe its versatile nature, outstanding build quality, and stellar audio profile more than justify this rate. That’s because you’re getting full support with USB-C devices (as well as an adapter for USB-A) and a propriety cable along with the standard 3.5mm jack. This means that while it’s excellent for Xbox, you can also make use of this set on your other devices as well. 

It’s the faithful directional audio and crisp profiles that impressed us the most in our testing, though. We found that gunfire and explosions punched through the haze in competitive gaming sessions, but dialogue was picked up effortlessly, too. The same can be said of the built-in microphone which is one of the better ones we’ve put through the paces recently.

Most in the scene will know Fnatic as the long-running eSports organization, so we think they know a thing or two about how to develop audio solutions for competition. This is reflected in the audio performance, with tight bass and a smooth sound profile throughout our testing.

What we also like about the Fnatic React Plus is the microphone. It can be challenging at the best of times to be heard amongst intense firefights when calling out to your teammates. That’s not the case with the detachable mic found here, with the cardioid pickup and pop filter doing an excellent job of ensuring we were heard at all times without issue. Given all these offer, we think they are ideal for those more full-on multiplayer titles such as Halo Infinite and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

The Nacon RIG 300 Pro HX is a very easy Xbox Series X headset to recommend. The ultra-low price point of $29.90 / £29.99 (around AU$44.89) is eye-catching, but the headset still packs the good at that low price. Expect solid (if occasionally muddy) audio and more than serviceable mic quality, making it an excellent choice as a backup headset for use with friends, or as a primary one if you’re on a strict budget.

The mic itself is quite stubby, and doesn’t look too appealing. But rest assured it is of a decent quality. There isn’t really any one aspect of the RIG 300 Pro HX we’d consider to be poor. It’s all just a very solid headset with a high level of comfort. Though, we’re not entirely thrilled with the length of the cable, which definitely could be longer given it’s wired only.

In our testing, we found that the SteelSeries Arctis 7X largely met this figure when gaming and enjoying media, though this set is definitely more suited to the former activity than the latter.

With a price tag of $149 / £174.99, the SteelSeries Arctis 7X isn’t exactly the cheapest Xbox Series X headset on the market, but we believe its versatile nature, outstanding build quality, and stellar audio profile more than justify this rate. That’s because you’re getting full support with USB-C devices (as well as an adapter for USB-A) and a propriety cable along with the standard 3.5mm jack. This means that while it’s excellent for Xbox, you can also make use of this set on your other devices as well. 

It’s the faithful directional audio and crisp profiles that impressed us the most in our testing, though. We found that gunfire and explosions punched through the haze in competitive gaming sessions, but dialogue was picked up effortlessly, too. The same can be said of the built-in microphone which is one of the better ones we’ve put through the paces recently.

With a price point of $74.99 / £84.99 / AU$140, the Fnatic React Plus is one of the more affordable gaming headsets available from a big-name brand. Most in the scene will know Fnatic as the long-running eSports organization, so we think they know a thing or two about how to develop audio solutions for competition. This is reflected in the audio performance, with tight bass and a smooth sound profile throughout our testing.

What we also like about the Fnatic React Plus is the microphone. It can be challenging at the best of times to be heard amongst intense firefights when calling out to your teammates. That’s not the case with the detachable mic found here, with the cardioid pickup and pop filter doing an excellent job of ensuring we were heard at all times without issue. Given all these offer, we think they are ideal for those more full-on multiplayer titles such as Halo Infinite and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

The cheapest of the RIG series, Nacon’s RIG 300 Pro HX is certainly no slouch. Design-wise, you’re getting a surprisingly high level of comfort and solid build build quality. It has a chunky, early 2000s aesthetic that won’t be for everyone, but certainly stands out from the pack.

The Nacon RIG 300 Pro HX is a very easy Xbox Series X headset to recommend. The ultra-low price point of $29.90 / £29.99 (around AU$44.89) is eye-catching, but the headset still packs the good at that low price. Expect solid (if occasionally muddy) audio and more than serviceable mic quality, making it an excellent choice as a backup headset for use with friends, or as a primary one if you’re on a strict budget.

The mic itself is quite stubby, and doesn’t look too appealing. But rest assured it is of a decent quality. There isn’t really any one aspect of the RIG 300 Pro HX we’d consider to be poor. It’s all just a very solid headset with a high level of comfort. Though, we’re not entirely thrilled with the length of the cable, which definitely could be longer given it’s wired only.

Astro A50

The Astro A50 headset is the most expensive option on this list, and for good reason. This wireless headset comes with a unique magnetic charging dock that ensures you’re always charged and ready to play, no matter how long you play. This is the headset I use personally, primarily because of its versatility. Astro is also updating it for the Xbox Series X and S with a firmware option for USB compatibility, making it one of the best Xbox Series X, Series S headsets you can buy.

The Astro A50 Dock is SPDIF optical audio compatible, which means you can plug it directly into your TV and use it as an audio source. This means you can use it with just about any console since the sound comes from the TV and not from the box. You’ll also be able to connect it via USB to an Xbox Series X or Series S if you don’t like using optical SPDIF. Alternatively, you can connect USB to PC instead, mixing audio from your TV using voice chat programs like Discord and similar on your computer. It’s this versatility that comes in incredibly handy if you’re creating content or playing on multiple devices.

The A50 is no fool in the audio department either. While I’m not a big fan of their built-in Dolby solution, the Astro’s own sound profile is rich, emphasizing tactical audio cues. The microphone isn’t particularly impressive, but the mute feature is a useful tool for quickly leaving a conversation. The headset is also comfortable and attractive, although much more comfortable leatherette accessories are unfortunately sold separately.

This is the headset for people who don’t mind shelling out for top-notch convenience and a tidy wireless gaming space.

Turtle Beach’s Elite Pro 2 is a great all-around wireless headset with quality metal reinforced construction, attractive design, comfortable floating headband and thick air cups with good cushioning.

The Elite Pro 2 doesn’t have many features, although it does come with a high-quality built-in volume control module and a mute button on the 3.5mm cable. If you want extra features like microphone monitoring, you’ll have to add them using software like the audio settings in the Xbox Dashboard or an optional accessory like the Elite Pro Tactical Audio controller. This is a headset dedicated to the basics, and it does it exceptionally well at that.

Surround soundscape provides a really sharp sense of positioning when combined with Dolby Atmos or Windows Sonic. However, you can improve this by using one of the Turtle Beach amplifiers for more accurate 7.1-style positional awareness, which is also baked into some mic monitoring.

I have personally used this headset for many months and truly adored it, ditching it just because I found wireless more comfortable on my current desktop. Turtle Beach has no competition in this area. However, as a wired headset, this does not disappoint.
