It might look good, but it doesn’t perform well

The new Google Nest Cam is a wired, indoor-only camera with free smart alerts for people, pets, and vehicles.

Indoor cameras are an awkward category. It’s hard to find a way to fit one into your home without feeling like Big Brother is watching you. My family hates having them in the house and only grudgingly lets me set them up to test as long as I take them down as soon as possible. Despite my assurances that the devices are set to not record when we’re home — they just don’t quite believe me. And they’re not alone.

Making a camera prettier so it blends in better with your home — as is the case with Google’s newest $100 Nest Cam (indoor) — may feel like a step in the right direction, but it really isn’t. In the end, it’s still a big black eye staring at you — no matter how attractive its exterior casing.

How we rate and review products

If you’re going to have an indoor camera, you need a really good reason. Security — while a valid reason for some — can be just as easily achieved with a well-placed outdoor camera (and be much less likely to catch you in your knickers by accident). Safety — checking to see if you left the stove on or looking in on the living room when your smart smoke alarm goes off is fine in theory — but, in reality, requires a camera in every nook and cranny where something could conceivably go wrong (which is the theory behind Ring’s new Always Home Cam). Ultimately, the most popular reason to use indoor cameras is to check in on pets and kids.

As a pet / child cam, the Nest Cam — which is part of Google’s new lineup of security cameras that includes a doorbell, an indoor / outdoor camera, and a floodlight cameras — does a nice job. Its best feature is its on-device processing that delivers snappy (and free) smart alerts to tell you whether it’s a cat or your child that just snuck into the kitchen before dinner.

With three hours of free event playback, you can see what went on without having to pay a monthly subscription fee (as long as you catch the alert within that three-hour window), and thanks to some local storage, the camera can record an hour’s worth of events if the internet goes down. If you spring for Google’s Nest Aware plan (starting at $6 a month), you can add the excellent Familiar Faces feature (which will tell you which child snuck into the kitchen — but sadly not which cat) and enable 24/7 recording (a handy feature if you want to see what your dog did all day or “film” a party or event at your home).

Unfortunately, the Nest Cam is not as good at either of these things as Nest’s previous camera — the $299 Nest Cam IQ Indoor. It had the option of sound alerts to detect a dog barking and people talking and could record a timelapse — which was a fun use of 24/7 recording. Granted, it was $200 more expensive and quite large and bulky in comparison to the diminutive newer model, but I’m not usually a fan of making smart home devices dumber or less capable.

Perhaps Google thinks the fancy 4K sensor-powered Nest Cam IQ with a built-in Google Assistant was overkill for the average person, and maybe it was. But that doesn’t explain why the newer Nest Cam with its 1080p, 2-megapixel camera has significantly worse video quality than the older version, beyond just lower resolution. Google said it ditched the 4K sensors to help preserve bandwidth (its wired cameras are notorious data hogs), but based on my testing, competitors’ cameras that cost under $50 have better video quality than this camera. They don’t look as pretty, though.

The Nest Cam struggled with contrast and definition in indoor lighting situations.

The $36 Wyze cam with similar specs as the Nest Cam captured much clearer footage, as you can see in this screenshot taken at the same time in the same location as the Nest Cam.

In my testing, I compared the Nest Cam side-by-side with a $36 Wyze Cam V3, and the Wyze Cam produced much better quality images. The images from the Nest Cam were over-saturated, dark, and regularly had a lot of artefacting. They also looked like I was viewing my home through rose-tinted glasses. I tested two units because Google said it has identified an issue with some cameras where the auto-white balance is out of whack, causing the rosy tint. But both cameras I tested had the same issue. Google says it’s rolling out a fix next month, and I’ll re-test and update this review if I see any changes.

I also did a comparison with the Nest Cam battery, which is Google’s new indoor / outdoor camera that has the option of being wired. It didn’t struggle as much with the contrast as the wired version, but its indoor images were not as crisp and clear as those it captured outdoors.

The Nest Cam cast a very rosy glow over my house (which is not pink in real life).

This image taken at the same time but from a wall-mounted Nest Cam IQ, provides a more accurate representation of my kitchen.

Night vision on the Nest Cam was more successful — and definitely not rose-tinted. The standard black and white video captures up to 15 feet at night, which is more than you’d need in most home environments. The 6x digital zoom (a step down from the Nest Cam IQ’s 12x) gave me enough pixels to zoom in on faces and make them out clearly.

Of course, video quality isn’t everything when it comes to a smart home security camera. It’s no good having top-quality video if you can’t access it quickly on a useable app. Design and build are also factors, as are privacy features, audio quality, and smart home integrations.

The Nest Cam can be mounted to a ceiling or wall using screws.

The Nest Cam has a nice design and the unique option of four color choices — white, grey, blue, and pink. It’s also surprisingly small — the base is almost as big as the camera, and the two together top out at just under four inches. A maple wood base on the pink camera is a nice decor touch, but I didn’t like the limited amount of flexibility the camera had on the mount (which it’s fixed, too). While you can mount it on the wall, as well as sit flat on a table or shelf, it only tilts up and down a few degrees, making it tricky to position perfectly in some situations. You can move it side to side almost a complete 360 degrees, but the fixed cord will stop you from going all the way around.

When the camera is recording, a small LED on the camera glows green, and this can’t be disabled. If someone is viewing the live stream, the LED flashes. This is a good privacy feature — although not enough to assuage the fears of my family. Ultimately, a physical hardware shutter is the only thing that will make most people feel comfortable, and I’m surprised Google didn’t offer this option.

The Nest Cam is only slightly taller than a travel sized bottle of hand sanitizer.

The Nest Cam has full-duplex two-way audio, which worked well in my testing. I could carry on a conversation as if it were a telephone call — even talking over each other and still being able to hear. That experience is much better than a lot of indoor security cameras where the interaction is more like a walkie-talkie, and lag time can be really frustrating.

The Nest Cam is also fast at sending alerts. Notifications for motion, animals, people, and vehicles (there’s not a lot of traffic in my living room, to be fair) arrived on my iPhone 13 just 1 to 3 seconds after the action. This would give me plenty of time to react — however, the Google Home app takes up to 10 seconds to pull up the footage. For just quickly viewing footage, the Nest Hub smart displays are faster than the app, pulling up a feed within a couple seconds, but you can’t interact with the feed or talk to someone through the Hub.

This brings me to my other issue with the Nest Cam: the Google Home app. You have to use it with this camera; it won’t work with the Nest app. I have used and loved the Nest app for years, and its ability to quickly scroll through footage and recorded events all on one page is something I really miss here. With the Home app, you have to tap into two or three different screens to see clips, live footage, or a timeline, and the timeline scroll is very slow (Google has said it’s fixing this).

While the accuracy of alerts in the newer Nest Cams is far superior to the older ones — which would routinely ping me 35 times in the middle of the night because a spider was building its web on the camera — digging in the Settings section of the Google Home app to figure out how to set up an activity zone is almost as tiresome. But Google has clearly indicated that it plans to migrate everything from the Nest app, so we’ll all have to struggle on in the Home app.

The Nest Cam uses an attached 10 foot USB-A power cable, which can plug into the included power brick.

There is simply too much going on in the Home app to make using it as a security camera hub a pleasant experience. And while the camera interface has some nice touches (like seeing a live feed of all your cameras when you open it), it’s too fiddly and requires too many taps and clicks and scrolls to get to the footage you want.

It’s also missing some features from the Nest app, including scheduling your cameras to come on and off at certain times. Instead, there’s a Routine that will control them based on your location, but that’s not helpful if you want them on at night while you are sleeping. There is an option to only get notified when the camera is on and no one is home, which helps a bit, but scheduling doesn’t feel like a big ask.

AGREE TO CONTINUE: Google Nest Cam and Doorbell

Every smart device now requires you to agree to a series of terms and conditions before you can use it — contracts that no one actually reads. It’s impossible for us to read and analyze every single one of these agreements. But we started counting exactly how many times you have to hit “agree” to use devices when we review them since these are agreements most people don’t read and definitely can’t negotiate.

To use the Nest Cam or Nest Doorbell, you must agree to:

  • Google Terms of Service
  • Google Privacy Policy (included in ToS)
  • Google Device Arbitration Agreement: “All disputes regarding your Google device will be resolved through binding arbitration on an individual, non-class basis […] unless you opt out by following the instructions in that agreement.”
  • Agree to follow the Placement Guidelines

The following agreements are optional:

  • Help improve Nest Cam / Doorbell by sharing device stats and crash reports with Google
  • Agree to allow phone location for Home & Away Routines

Final tally: four mandatory agreements and two optional agreements.

You also can’t use Google’s Nest cameras in any ecosystem other than Google Home. The old Nest cameras worked with Amazon Alexa and, more recently, SmartThings, but these are Google only. If you are running a Google smart home, that won’t be an issue — these cameras integrate nicely with any other Google-compatible device. Except for in one odd way — you can’t view your camera feed on a Chromecast-enabled TV. Google says it’s working on adding the feature, as well as a web interface, which was a feature of Nest cameras.

While I do appreciate Google’s efforts to make smart home devices more suited to our home, and the local processing is an excellent step forward, I don’t like seeing devices lose functionality. Google still has a lot of work to do with the Nest Cam, and that’s a shame because Nest’s indoor cameras were the industry gold standard. Now, in far too many respects, they’re playing catch up.

Nest Indoor Home Security Camera Review 2023

Note: While Google still sells the Nest Cam Indoor, they have removed Nest Secure from availability for purchase.

The Nest Cam Indoor is Nest’s original indoor camera, currently priced at $199. For users on a budget, it’s certainly not the cheapest camera around, but it is a good price considering the features. Let’s get started with the original Nest indoor camera review now.

Overview

The Nest Cam Indoor may be better for some people more than others.

The Best Nest Cam Indoor Alternatives

Given that the Nest Cam Indoor is now completely out of Google’s rotation, we think it’s best to find alternatives. Of course, there’s the Google Nest Cam (wired, indoor) and the Nest Cam (battery) from the same brand, but if you want to expand your horizon, there are some pretty neat Nest Cam Indoor alternatives from Lorex, Ring, and Wyze.

Features

Like we do all security cameras, we put the Nest Cam Indoor through Security.org’s Necessary Features Test.

Video Quality

The Nest Cam Indoor has 1080p HD video, the industry standard, plus a wide, 130-degree field of view. Users will be able to zoom in optically eight times for the smaller details, which is impressive.

Nest Cam Indoor Video Display

Audio

The Nest Cam Indoor has two-way audio via a speaker and microphone. This means the users can actually speak through the Nest Cam Indoor through the Nest app remotely, useful for stopping intrusions as they’re occurring or simply communicating with a family member.

Night Vision

The Nest Cam Indoor has infrared night vision from eight LED sensors, making for very clear vision at night.

Nest Cam Indoor Night Vision

Storage

One drawback of the Nest Cam Indoor is it’s lack of local storage. While there’s no slot for a micro-SD card, Nest gives users three hours of cloud storage on the house. Beyond that, they’ll have to pay $6 a month or $60 a year for 30 days of cloud storage or $12 a month or $120 a year for 60 days.

Nest Free Nest Aware Nest Aware Plus
Event Video History 3 Hours 30 days 60 days
24/7 Video History 0 0 10 days
Monthly Price $0 $6 $12
Yearly Price $0 $60 $120
Yearly Savings N/A $12 $24

Smart Platform Integrations

Given that Google owns Nest, it’s no surprise that the Nest Cam Indoor works with Google Assistant, the company’s voice assistant. But it also works with Alexa as well as smart light bulbs from Philips Hue, allowing for automated actions like having the living room lights turn off when the Nest Cam Indoor is armed. Let’s see exactly how users can control the Nest Cam Indoor with their voices alone.

Nest Cam Indoor on Fire TV

Alexa

Users will be able to show footage from the Nest Cam Indoor on their Echo Show, Echo Spot and Fire TV. Here are some sample commands:

  • Alexa, show the living room camera.
  • Alexa, hide the bedroom camera.
Google Assistant

Those in the Google smart home ecosystem will be pleased to be able to play their Nest Cam footage on Google’s smart displays like the Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max, as well as cast it to smart TVs through Chromecast. Here are the commands that can be used with the Nest Cam Indoor:

  • Hey Google, play the living room camera on the kitchen TV
  • Hey Google, cast my bedroom camera to the Nest Hub Max

Artificial Intelligence

While the Nest Cam Indoor doesn’t come with any artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, users can buy person detection through Nest Aware. Person detection means that the camera doesn’t just alert users of any motion that their Nest Cam Indoors capture. Rather, they’ll only be notified if the Nest Cam Indoor detects a person, making for notifications that matter more.

Nest Aware takes it a step further with familiar face alerts. Over time, the camera will begin to recognize certain faces, which the user can name in the Nest app. Users can also receive dog-barking alerts and person speaking alerts, making for a smart camera that’s truly intelligent.

Video Review

Our video review of the Nest Cam Indoor shows users exactly what the camera footage looks like during the day and at night, as well as detailing audio, smart platform integrations, installation and more.

Design

Now that we’ve gone over the Nest Cam Indoor’s features, let’s talk a bit more about its design.

Nest Cam Indoor

Power

The Nest Cam Indoor must be plugged into power, which shouldn’t be a problem as it’s an indoor camera. However, some people may prefer wireless cameras, making the Nest Cam Indoor a poor choice.

Nest Cam Indoor White Cord

Connectivity

The Nest Cam Indoor should be connected to home Wi-Fi. If not, users won’t be able to use the Nest app to livestream footage, speak through two-way audio, and generally control and monitor it. However, if the user buys professional monitoring, they’ll still be able to use the Nest app even if the Wi-Fi fails, as it includes cellular backup.

How It Performs

Our experts tested out the Nest Cam Indoor, so let’s see how well it worked and how easy it was to set up.

Nest Cam Indoor Magnetic Base

How to Set Up Instructions

Nest has instructions on how to set up their cameras and connect them to the Nest app on their website. Here are the first few steps:

  • Download the Nest app and create an account, if not already done.
  • Scan the QR code on the bottom of the Nest Cam Indoor and name it in the Nest app by its location.
  • Plug in the Nest Cam Indoor and add it to the home WiFi.

Subscription Plans

Currently, users can purchase Nest Aware by the amount of cloud storage they’ll receive: 30 days of cloud storage for $6 a month or $60 a year, or 60 days of cloud storage for $12 a month or $120 a year. Users can choose from monthly, flexible contracting that can be cancelled anytime, or annual contracting, which can save users $12 or $24 a year.

Professional monitoring costs either $19 a month if the user wants to sign up for a three-year contract, or $29 a month if the customer wants month-to-month contracting. Like we said, this includes cellular backup.

The Nest App

To get the most out of the Nest Cam Indoor, downloading the iOS or Android Nest app is a necessity.

Nest Cam Indoor Activity Zones on the Nest App

Features

Through the Nest app, users will be able to livestream footage, speak through two-way audio, receive notifications, view cloud storage, set up smart platform integrations, and more.

Google Play Store Rating

Currently, the Nest app has a rating of 4.2 on the Google Play store, which is nearly perfect.

Apple Store Rating

We tested out the Nest Cam Indoor using the Nest app for iOS, which has an even better 4.7 star rating. This is much improved from the last time we tested out the camera and its app, so we’re glad to see that Nest has been improving it, and we agree with the high rating, as this app is very easy to use.

Comparisons

In this section, we’re comparing the Nest Cam Indoor to the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor, the Nest Cam Outdoor and the Arlo Pro 2.

Nest Cam Indoor vs. Nest Cam IQ Indoor

The Nest Cam IQ Indoor is basically a more advanced version of the Nest Cam Indoor, costing $299 in comparison to $199. The cameras both have 1080p HD video, 130-degree fields of view, and the same storage options and smart platform integrations. However, the IQ has twice the amount of LED sensors than the Nest Cam Indoor, making the infrared night vision twice as impressive, plus the ability to zoom in 12 times as opposed to eight. And with a speaker seven times more powerful, the IQ also has improved two-way audio.

Nest Cam IQ Indoor Video Display

Finally, the Nest Cam IQ Indoor includes person detection, unlike the Nest Cam Indoor, and it can be wireless or plugged in, while the Nest Cam Indoor is plug-in only. We’d recommend the Nest Cam IQ Indoor to users that want the improved video, night vision, audio, and AI features, but the Nest Cam Indoor to users more concerned with saving the extra $100. To learn more, read our full Nest Cam IQ Indoor review.

Nest Cam Indoor vs. Nest Cam Outdoor

The Nest Cam Outdoor is the original outdoor camera from Nest. Unlike the Nest Cam Indoor, it has an IP rating of 65, meaning it’s weatherproof and can be used in temperatures from negative four to 104 degrees Fahrenheit. But in terms of features, it’s pretty similar to the Nest Cam Indoor, with the exact same video, audio, night vision, storage options, smart platform integrations and AI. Both cameras plug in, which could be an issue for some users that want a wireless outdoor camera. For more information, read our review of the Nest Cam Outdoor.

Nest Cam Outdoor

Nest Cam Indoor vs. Arlo Pro 2

Unlike the Nest Cam Indoor, the Arlo Pro 2 can be used outside in temperatures from negative four to 104 degrees Fahrenheit. It also works with Alexa and Google Assistant in addition to IFTTT, Stringify and Apple HomeKit. The Arlo Pro 2 also has local storage and seven days of free cloud storage, while Nest only gives users three hours for free.

The Arlo Pro 2

Both cameras have 1080p HD video, eight times zoom, 130-degree fields of view, and infrared night vision, although we weren’t super impressed with the Arlo Pro 2’s night vision, two-way audio, and person detection available for an extra cost. The Arlo Pro 2 is wireless with a battery life of three to six months, while the Nest Cam Indoor only plugs in.

Finally, the Arlo Pro 2 has a built-in siren that’s over 100 decibels, all for a cost of $219.99. Overall, we’d recommend the Arlo Pro 2 for outdoor use, but the Nest Cam Indoor for indoor use. Want to know more? Read our full comparison of the Nest Cam Indoor vs. Arlo Pro 2.

Customer Support

Here’s the information on how to get in touch with Nest’s customer support team.

Phone Number

Call Nest at 1-855-469-6378 to get support over the phone.

Email

While Nest support lacks a direct email, users can reach out via Twitter and Facebook Messenger.

Online Help Center

The best way to reach out to Nest is to look at their online support center, which has really detailed guidelines on each product as well as a community forum. Most questions can be answered through the online help center, in our experience.

Live Chat

For the quickest answers, ask support questions over the live chat option on their website.

Our Experience Contacting Support

When we couldn’t find our answers on Nest’s online support center, we were forced to use either live chat or the phone line. Unfortunately, the phone support was pretty poor. Our representative didn’t seem to be very knowledgeable about the Nest products in general and knew about as much as was on the website, defeating the purpose of the phone line itself.

Amazon Ratings

The Nest Cam Indoor currently has a 4.1 out of five star rating on Amazon, which is really good. However, when we searched “customer support,” we found that the majority of the reviews were one star. One user complained of the phone line specifically,

“Over the course of the last 5 days, I’ve called Nest support 3 times by phone and have been on hold for a total of 3 hours and never got through. I contacted them on Twitter but they told me I had to call by phone. Their support department does not have an email address – or if they do, they don’t advertise it…”

Unfortunately, this matched our experience with Nest’s phone line, which should only be used as a last resort after the online options.

Nest Cam Indoor FAQs

  • Is there a monthly fee for Nest Cam?

There is no required monthly fee for the Nest Cam. However, if you buy Nest Aware, you’ll get additional cloud storage plus person detection, dog barking alerts, person speaking alerts, facial recognition, and activity zones. 30 days of cloud storage costs $6 a month or $60 a year, while 60 days costs $12 a month or $120 a year, adding on 24/7 video history to boot.

  • Is the Nest indoor camera wireless?

The Nest Cam Indoor is not wireless. Rather, it needs to be plugged into power to work. However, the Nest Cam IQ Indoor can be either wireless or plug-in.

  • How much is a Nest indoor camera?

The Nest Cam Indoor, Nest’s original indoor camera, costs $199. The Nest Cam IQ Indoor, the latest version of their indoor camera, costs $299. There are also separate, optional costs for storage, advanced artificial intelligence features and professional monitoring.

  • Where should I put my Nest camera indoors?

Nest cameras should be placed in a central area on the ground level or homes, like a main hallway or living room. Make sure they’re placed near a power outlet, as the Nest Cam Indoor must be plugged in. They should also be in an area with a strong Internet connection.

  • Can I use the Nest camera without a subscription?

The Nest cameras can be used without a subscription. The user will still be able to livestream footage, check the statuses of, receive notifications of and control their Nest cameras remotely through the Nest app. However, users will only get three hours of cloud storage without a subscription.

  • Is a Nest worth the money?

Nest cameras are worth the money. They are at the top of their game in terms of video, audio, night vision, smart platform integrations and artificial intelligence. But for a user on a budget, the original Nest cameras, the Nest Cam Indoor and the Nest Cam Outdoor, are a better option than the Nest Cam IQ Indoor and Nest Cam IQ Outdoor.

If you’re wondering if your equipment is correctly installed and adjusted, or curious if you should invest in a new, more versatile mount, there are a few major factors when determining whether or not to tilt a TV. Mounts with at least some versatility and adjustment are becoming a standard product on the market, but is it a requirement?

Should a wall-mounted TV be tilted? If the TV is above the viewer’s eye line, a downward tilt can prevent neck and eye strain. Tilting a screen can also prevent glare from inconveniently placed lights. Based on the aesthetic design of the space, a tilted screen may also fit in better.

Maybe one of these situations applies to you, but you’re uncertain about which mount is going to fit your home theater setup. Below, we’ll discuss the types of mounts and their benefits, focusing on tilted wall mounts.

What is a Tilted TV Wall Mount?

A tilted TV wall mount is any mount that is bolted directly into the wall and has a mechanism to adjust and face your TV downward. Units like the Mounting Dream Tilt TV Wall Mount (on Amazon) are reasonably priced and relatively simple to install. These mounts come in handy for TVs that have to be mounted higher up, or when other features of the room call for an angled screen.

While often confused or equated to the full-motion mounts, tilt mounts do not offer any left to right movement or move out (away) from the wall. They’re typically suggested when mounting in a corner, flex space, or any other scenario where the TV may not be the main focus, or if it needs to be minimized quickly.

Tilted vs Flat TV Wall Mounts

If you have your TV mounted on your wall at eye level, across from your couch or another favorite seat for viewing, chances are you are going to be perfectly content with a flat wall mount. Flat TV wall mounts like the SAMSUNG No Gap Wall Mount (on Amazon) can’t move, but they can be mounted flush with the wall which can be an aesthetic advantage.

However, if you’re unable to rewire or relocate your outlets, you may find the extra cord from your wire run may be harder to hide behind the TV when it’s flush. Also, flat TV mounts do not allow for any adjustment after installation.

With a tilted mount, there’s room for the TV to be adjusted downward, but that means it is mounted a few inches off the wall (at least), leaving a gap behind the TV. While this can quickly kill the “picture-frame” type illusion some find preferable, some enjoy the space to hide cabling and sometimes even some smaller cable boxes or other streaming equipment.

While there are benefits to each mount aesthetically, the option of the tilt can come in handy for a lot of viewers. Sometimes people do not have any good spot for watching TV because of the room’s features, and a tilted mount can work around limitations of a space.

Pros and Cons of Tilted TV Wall Mounts

Now that you understand how the two types of mounts compare, let’s focus in on some of the unique features of tilted wall mounts.

Pros

Reduced Neck and Eye Strain

If you’re getting stiff or feeling fatigued after only a short time of watching, it could be that your TV is mounted too high. Try adjusting to a downward tilt, if the option is available, to see if some discomfort is eased. If you have a flat wall mount, you may consider adjusting its height, but a tilted mount makes this adjustment much easier. You should also review our article on how far away from your screen you should be, based on its size.

Glare Resistance/Reduction

A tilted TV mount allows you to angle the screen not just once, but as necessary, which means if you have issues with sun glare to lights in your house, you can tilt the TV as these lights shift throughout the day quickly and easily.

Flexibility of TV Mounting Location

If you have a high fireplace that pushes the TV up, or if the shape of your room forces you to mount the TV in a corner or other awkwerd wall, a tilted mount can help make the situation work, offering you at least a little more flexibility.

Space to Hide Cables & Devices

With plenty of space for cables and to hide wall plates, you can manage and camouflage your cable runs with ease behind these mounts. As the size and weight of cable boxes, Apple TV’s, Rokus, Firesticks, and the like continue to decrease you can bet more straight to TV mounts will be coming as well, perfect for the space between your TV and the wall.

Cons

Not Flush with the Wall

Some prefer the “picture frame” look of a flush-mounted Television, which allows it to blend into the space better. You lose some of this magic with a tilted mount, because of the gap with the wall.

Not as Dynamic as Full Motion Mounts

While more versatile than the flat wall mount, the range of the full-motion mounts can’t be beat. You may not need this full range of motion, though, which is usually reserved for when you need to mount a TV in a corner. As with any home theater hardware option, the tilted mount is a specific tool that solves specific problems. It won’t be as dynamic as a full-motion mount, but you also may not need that.

More Complicated Install

There’s no question that a tilted mount will be harder to install than a flush-mount, but just remember that hardware manufacturers are designing these systems so that they can be installed by homeowners for the most part. It can be a little intimidating, but just follow the instructions and you’ll be fine.

A Word to the Wise

If you are hiring an installer to perform the work for you and they bring up the various mounts, they are not attempting to upsell you on an unnecessary product, they simply want to ensure they do the best job for the space and you get maximum enjoyment from your new equipment. Remember to consider the options against your needs, and make sure you pick solutions that will solve your unique problems.

annular combustion chamber of a gas turbine engine The annular combustion chamber contains a baffle dividing its volume into central and peripheral parts, which is made of a double cylindrical shape, and a rotating nozzle located diametrically opposite the cylindrical baffle.

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to increase the completeness of fuel combustion and expand the range of stable operation of the compressor in off-design modes, and reduce the emission of harmful substances. 1 ill.

Figure 1, Figure 2

Claim

An annular combustion chamber of a gas turbine engine, comprising a housing, a flame tube having outer and inner casings with air holes and a partition separating the volume of the chamber into a central and peripheral parts, a rotating nozzle located in the central part, characterized in that the baffle is made of a double cylindrical shape, and the rotating nozzle is located diametrically opposite the cylindrical baffle.

Description of the invention to the patent

The invention relates to the field of aircraft gas turbine engines (GTE), in particular to the annular combustion chambers of GTE.

An annular combustion chamber of a gas turbine engine of a countercurrent semi-loop type is known, containing a flame tube in the form of an outer and inner casing, between which an annular combustion space is formed, into which compressed air enters from the gas turbine compressor [1]. The outer casing has a cylindrical shell, passing in the front part into a rounded wall near the compressor, and a plurality of fuel injectors are placed in the rear part of the combustion chamber.

The disadvantage of such a combustion chamber is the increased circumferential non-uniformity of the temperature field, which reduces the resource of the combustion chamber and turbine.

An annular combustion chamber of a gas turbine engine, selected as the closest analogue, is known, containing a nozzle rotating on the rotor of the gas turbine engine, supplying fuel to the space of the flame tube between the inner and outer casings. The gas flow in the cavity of the combustion chamber moves first radially, then in the axial direction, while the air from the compressor is supplied to the cavity of the inner casing through the hollow blades of the turbine nozzle apparatus [2].

The disadvantage of the known combustion chamber is the insufficient completeness of fuel combustion and a small range of stable operation of the compressor in off-design modes of operation, increased emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere.

The objective of the invention is to increase the completeness of fuel combustion and to expand the range of stable operation of the compressor in off-design modes, to reduce the emission of harmful substances.

The problem is solved by the fact that in the annular combustion chamber of the gas turbine engine, containing a body, a flame tube having outer and inner casings with air holes and a partition dividing the volume of the chamber into a central and peripheral part, the partition is made of a double, cylindrical shape, and a rotating nozzle located diametrically opposite the cylindrical partition.

Placement of the injector opposite the annular baffle and the double baffle makes it possible to reduce the emission of harmful substances by improving the mixing of the fuel-air mixture and increasing the combustion efficiency, as well as to increase the reliability and service life of the combustion chamber and turbine by reducing the circumferential unevenness of the temperature field in the chamber.

The drawing shows a longitudinal section of the proposed gas turbine engine combustion chamber.

The combustion chamber is located in the engine between the compressor 1 and the turbine 2, contains a housing 3, a flame tube 4 in the form of an outer casing 5 and an inner casing 6. The outer casing 5 is connected to the inner casing 6 through the outer ring 7 and the inner ring 8 by means of hollow blades 9nozzle apparatus (SA) of the turbine 2. The inner part of the outer casing 5 is connected to the wall 10, which is attached to the straightener 11 of the last stage of the compressor 1. The combustion chamber has a rotating nozzle 12, mounted on the shaft 13 of the engine, and a fixed fuel into the internal cavity of the rotating nozzle 12 and is a sleeve that surrounds the shaft 13 and is attached at one end through the wall 15 to the inner casing 6 of the combustion chamber. Fuel to the fixed nozzle 14 is supplied through the pipeline 16 passing through the hollow blade 9CA of the turbine and through housing 3. Between casing 5 and casing 3 there is an annular cavity 17, and between casing 5 and wall 10 – cavity 18. Inner casing 6 is made with a double cylindrical annular partition 19, inside which cavity 20 is formed. Between wall 15 and a cavity 21 is formed by the casing 6. In the outer casing 5 there are holes 22 for the passage of air, in the inner casing 6 there are holes 23. The shape of the casings 5,6 of the flame tube forms combustion zones 1 and II and a mixing zone III in the cavity of the combustion chamber.

During engine operation, compressed air from compressor 1 enters cavity 18 and 17 through straightener 11. Then air enters cavity 20, 21 through hollow blades 9. Cooling blades 9 and walls of inner casing 6, air enters combustion zone I heated due to this by about 100 o C. The number, shape and location of holes 22 and 23 in the walls of the flame tube 5 and 6 provide film cooling of its walls and intensive mixing of air with fuel entering through pipeline 16, fixed nozzle 14 and rotating nozzle 12. Thus, in zone I, the fuel-air mixture is prepared. Due to air heating (due to cooling of the walls of the flame tube and blades 9) entering the combustion zone, the chemical reactions of combustion are accelerated, as a result, carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbons (HC) have time to burn in the chamber, i.e. the completeness of combustion improves and the emission of harmful substances into the atmosphere decreases.

When the engine is started, the fuel is ignited and the initial combustion occurs in zone I, which has a small volume, which, with a low initial fuel consumption, makes it possible to obtain an enriched mixture favorable for ignition. The low consumption of starting fuel allows avoiding overheating (increase) of gas temperature at start-up and, thus, increasing the reliability of the resource engine.

At nominal engine operation, the optimum ratio of fuel and air is obtained in zone II, where complete combustion of the fuel occurs.

When switching to low power mode by reducing fuel consumption and keeping the air flow almost constant, the optimum fuel-air ratio moves to zone I, therefore, stable operation of the combustion chamber is maintained at low power mode in zone 1. Since zones I and II are located closer to the axis of the engine, they have a favorable ratio of area and volume of the flame tube for efficient cooling of the walls.

In zone III, the products of combustion are mixed with the air entering through the openings 22. Zone III is located on the periphery of the combustion chamber and has a much larger volume than zones I and II, and a relatively large length, this factor ensures efficient mixing of combustion products with the air supplied for dilution, i.e. a more uniform temperature field in front of the turbine, which increases the reliability and service life of the turbine and engine combustion chamber.

Why is my ring camera not charging from the solar panel

Why is my ring camera not charging from the solar panel?

Have you recently purchased a solar panel ring camera and noticed that it is not charging properly? Solar panels are a fantastic and environmentally friendly solution for powering outdoor security cameras. However, if your ring camera is not charging properly, it can be quite frustrating. In this article, we’ll look at some common reasons why your ring camera might not charge from the solar panel and provide you with possible solutions to fix this problem.

1. Insufficient exposure to sunlight

One of the main reasons why your ring camera may not charge from the solar panel is insufficient exposure to sunlight. Solar panels use sunlight to generate electricity, so if the panel is shaded or improperly positioned, it won’t get enough power to efficiently charge your camera. Take a moment to evaluate the placement of your camera and solar panel. Make sure they are installed in a location that gets as much direct sunlight as possible during the day. Moving the camera or adjusting the angle of the solar panel may solve the problem.

2. Dirty solar panel

Another common problem that can prevent the Ring Camera from charging with the solar panel is a dirty solar panel. Over time, dust, debris, and bird droppings can accumulate on the surface of the panel, reducing its ability to effectively capture sunlight. It is important to clean the solar panel regularly to maintain its efficiency. This can be done by gently wiping the surface with a clean, non-abrasive cloth or using a soft brush dampened with soapy water. Be sure to turn off the camera before cleaning the solar panel.

3. Faulty connection or cable

Faulty connection or cable can also cause issues with charging your Ring camera. Check all connections between the camera, solar panel and any extension cables for signs of damage or looseness. Sometimes impact or accidental tugging can damage cables or connectors, preventing electricity from flowing. If you notice any problems, consider replacing cables or connectors with high quality ones that are compatible with your Ring camera and solar panel.

4. Battery low or malfunctioning

If your Ring camera keeps showing low battery even though it is connected to a solar panel, there may be a problem with the camera battery. Batteries can wear out over time, resulting in reduced charging capacity. To resolve this issue, try restarting your camera or contact Ring Customer Service for assistance. They can help diagnose if the problem is with the battery or the camera itself that needs further attention.

5. Firmware update requirements

Sometimes your ring camera may not charge from the solar panel due to outdated firmware. Ring periodically releases firmware updates that fix bugs and improve the overall performance of the device. These upgrades often include improvements to solar charging capabilities. Make sure your camera’s firmware is up to date by logging into the Ring app and checking for available updates. Installing the latest firmware may resolve any charging issues you may be experiencing.

In conclusion, several factors can cause your Ring camera to not charge from the solar panel. It is critical to evaluate sunlight exposure, solar panel cleanliness, connection integrity, battery health, and firmware updates to identify and resolve the issue.

Nest indoor cameras: Nest Indoor & Outdoor Smart Security Cameras

Nest Cam (indoor) review: Google’s smart security camera has fast alerts and a nice design, but the video quality isn’t as good as cheaper competitors

  • Works with Alexa, Google Assistant and Philips Hue lightbulbs
  • Person detection available with Nest Aware subscription

Wireless mouse with ipad: Connect a mouse to iPad

Yes, You Can Use a Mouse With an iPad — Here’s How

  • You can use a wireless mouse with an iPad that’s running iPadOS 13.4 or later.
  • To use a mouse on your iPad, you’ll need to pair them using the Bluetooth menu.
  • Once paired, you can use a mouse with your iPad to navigate, make selections, start apps and more.

Over the past few years, Apple has put more and more effort into marketing the iPad as a replacement for your laptop. One major example of this is how new iPads can connect to a wireless computer mouse, and use it in lieu of the touchscreen.

If you have iPadOS 13.4 or later, you can connect a wireless Bluetooth mouse to your iPad. Connecting a mouse lets you navigate through apps, select items, and click buttons without touching the screen.

Note that some wired computer mice can also connect to an iPad, but you might need a special USB-C adapter for them. Check out the manual for the specific mouse you want to use, or contact the manufacturer for more information.

Here’s which iPad models can use a mouse, and how to connect it.

Which iPads can connect with a mouse?

You can use any wireless Bluetooth mouse with any iPad running iPadOS 13.4 or later. And since the iPad has a Bluetooth receiver built into it, you won’t need a Bluetooth dongle.

These iPad models are compatible with iPadOS 13.4 or later, and can use a mouse:

  • iPad Pro (all models)
  • iPad 5th generation or later
  • iPad Air 2 or later
  • iPad Mini 4 or later

To make sure you’re running iPadOS 13.4 or later, start the Settings app and tap “General,” then tap “About.” If your iPadOS version is too old, head to the “Software Update” screen and see if a new version is available.

How to connect a wireless mouse to your iPad

1. Turn on your mouse and put it into pairing mode. Generally, there should be a pairing button on the underside of the mouse or in the battery compartment. Press it until you see a blinking light that indicates pairing mode is on.

2. Start the Settings app on your iPad.

3. Tap “Bluetooth.”

4. Look for the mouse in the list of devices. When you see it, tap the name of the mouse.

Find the mouse in the list of Bluetooth devices.

Dave Johnson/Business Insider

5. In the pop-up window, tap “Pair. ” Follow any additional instructions, if necessary, to pair it with the iPad. This may include entering a passcode.

Tap “Pair” to complete the setup process.

Dave Johnson/Business Insider

How to use a mouse with an iPad

Once paired, the mouse should work automatically whenever it’s turned on and in range of the iPad. As you move the mouse, you should see a small dot, which is the mouse pointer.

As it hovers over buttons and icons, you should see them expand or highlight to indicate they’re selected. If you move the pointer into a text field, you should see the I-beam indicating you can type.

The cursor is a gray dot that can be hard to see, but you’ll see items highlight or get larger when the pointer is over them.

Dave Johnson/Business Insider

If you stop moving the mouse, the dot will disappear so it’s not in the way. To get it back, just move the mouse again.

This article will guide you through the steps to connect and use a mouse or trackpad with your iPad, which should provide a more confortable user experience.

Using a mouse or trackpad to control your iPad pointer more precisely can be particularly helpful when using creative and productivity apps such as the Microsoft Office, performing image & video editing, creating vector art in illustration apps, and so forth.

The steps here work for all iPad models, including iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad mini.

Connect a mouse to your iPad

Wireless mouse

  1. Go to iPad Settings and tap Bluetooth.
  2. Flip the power or pairing switch of your wireless mouse to the ON position.
  3. Within seconds, you should see your mouse name appear below the Under Devices heading. Tap the mouse name to connect it to your iPad.
  4. Finally, move your mouse a bit, and you should see the circular mouse pointer on your iPad screen.

Wired mouse

  1. Connect your wired mouse to your iPad directly if it has a USB-C connector at one end, or use an USB-C dongle.
  2. Once the mouse is connected, you can start using it to control your iPad.

I have connected my wired mouse using a USB-C hub.

Connect a trackpad to your iPad

Connecting a trackpad to your iPad is the same as a mouse. Here’s how:

  1. Switch on your wireless trackpad. If it has a pairing mode switch, push it to the ON position.
  2. Open the Settings app on your iPad and tap Bluetooth.
  3. You should see your trackpad appear under the Other Devices heading. Tap its name to connect it to your iPad.
  4. Once the trackpad is connected, you can start using it instantly.

Use a mouse or trackpad on iPad

iPadOS doesn’t discriminate depending on which mouse or trackpad you’re using. But if you use a Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad, you obviously benefit from the awesome gestures they support.

Irrespective of whether it’s a wired or wireless mouse or trackpad, you can perform the following actions:

  • Go home: Click the Home bar at the bottom of the screen.
  • Open Control Center: Take the pointer over the battery icon in the top right and click.
  • Open Notification Center: Take the pointer to the time indicator in the top left and click.
  • Scroll: Use the standard gesture supported by your mouse or trackpad.
  • App Switcher: Bring the mouse pointer to the bottom of the screen and continue to drag it down until you see the App Switcher with all open app tiles.

Customize your mouse and trackpad experience

  1. Open iPad Settings and tap Accessibility.
  2. Tap Pointer Control.
  3. From here, you can tweak the following settings:

Increase Contrast: This will make the circular pointer a bit darker.

Automatically Hide Pointer: After a while of inactivity, the circular pointer disappears from the screen. Turning it off will always show the pointer.

Color: Use this to add a white, blue, red, green, yellow, or orange border to the gray pointer. You can also adjust the border width.

Pointer Size: Lets you increase the size of the circular gray mouse and trackpad pointer.

Pointer Animations: If you turn it off, you may notice fewer pointer animations. For example, with this enabled, when you take the mouse pointer to an app icon on the Home Screen, the pointer hides from view. But with pointer animations off, it will show the pointer over the app icon.

Scrolling Speed: Using this slider, you can increase or decrease the scrolling speed of the mouse or trackpad.

Double-Tap to Drag and Trackpad Inertia: You will see these options only when you connect a trackpad to your iPad. The former lets you customize your dragging experience. Trackpad Inertia ensures the pointer continues to move a bit and slows down smoothly after you have flicked your finger. If it’s off, the pointer comes to a quick halt.

Mouse settings with AssistiveTouch: Tap AssistiveTouch settings from the bottom > select your connected mouse. From here, you can customize your mouse buttons to work with AssistiveTouch. You can configure your mouse buttons to perform specific actions.

Check the battery of your mouse or trackpad

Most mice and trackpads show the battery status in the iPad Batteries widget. You can see the remaining charge here. For more, check out how to see the battery percentage of Bluetooth devices connected to your iPhone or iPad.

Disconnect the mouse and trackpad

Wired

If it’s a wired mouse or trackpad, simply unplug it from iPad’s USB-C port or USB-C hub, and it will disconnect it.

Wireless

  1. Go to Settings > Bluetooth.
  2. Tap the info button ⓘ next to the connected mouse or trackpad.
  3. From here, tap Disconnect.

Note: Many modern mice support simultaneous connection with two or more devices. However, if you have a Magic Mouse or Magic Trackpad or a similar wireless mouse, you will have to tap Forget This Device and then switch off and switch on the mouse/trackpad to make it available to connect with other devices like your Mac.

iPads are extremely versatile devices, and with a few optional accessories, they can be transformed from a touch-screen mobile device into something that looks like a laptop. If you already have a stand and a Bluetooth keyboard or keyboard case, then a mouse is the last thing you need for an iPad workstation. It’s important to note that the iPad doesn’t have ports to support wired mice, so you’ll need to find a wireless model.

Some wireless mice connect to the device using a tiny adapter that plugs into a USB port. The iPad cannot support this connection, so you need to find a model that is compatible with Bluetooth. You’ll also want to take into account factors such as battery life and ability to track on multiple surfaces. If you enjoy setting up your iPad in different workspaces, you don’t need to bring your mouse pad to your favorite coffee shop. And, of course, you’ll want to think about comfort. If you’re uncomfortable using a standard mouse, there are some great ergonomic options that support different hand positions. You can set up application-specific “profiles” to make controls work differently in programs like Adobe Photoshop, Google Chrome, and Final Cut Pro.

This mouse supports both Bluetooth and USB wireless connection. One of the most interesting features is the simultaneous connection to Logitech Flow, a technology that allows you to pair your mouse with three devices at the same time and “move” the cursor over all three devices. In fact, you can put your iPad next to your laptop and use the cursor between them as if they were two screens. This is a very interesting feature that might even make you reconsider your workstation setup. MX Master 3 can also track almost any surface, including glass.

3. Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Mouse 3600 is the best budget iPad mouse of 2020

This is a super basic mouse that is reliable and Bluetooth compatible, making it a good budget choice for your iPad if you don’t need the extra bells and whistles. It has a standard left and right click and a four-way scroll center wheel (up/down and left/right). The design is not particularly ergonomic, but symmetrical. This means that the iPad mouse can be used independently with either the left or right hand. Its BlueTrack tracking technology uses a combination of optical and laser technology to reliably move the cursor over all types of surfaces except clear glass and mirrors.

This iPad mouse is not rechargeable and uses an AA battery instead. Plus: each battery lasts about a year. If you’re looking for an affordable iPad mouse, get the Microsoft Bluetooth Mobile Mouse 3600 in black, blue, or red.

Pros

  • Inexpensive.
  • Symmetrical design.

Cons

  • Not rechargeable.

4. Logitech MX ERGO Trackball Mouse is the best iPad mouse of 2020

Unlike conventional optical mice that slide across the work surface, trackball mice are immobile and you control cursor movement by rolling the trackball with your thumb. This design is very precise and requires minimal desk space. These iPad mice are also very ergonomic, and the Logitech MX Ergo is no exception. The surface of the mouse supports the entire hand, and there is a hinge at the bottom that allows you to adjust it to the most comfortable angle. The mouse for iPad supports Bluetooth and can support pairing with two different devices at the same time. This means you can buy this mouse for your desktop at home and use it between your laptop and iPad, switching from one to the other with simple mouse button controls.

Pros

  • Trackball design.
  • Adjustable hinge for individual angle.

Cons

  • Bulky iPad mouse.
  • Dear.

5. Logitech M720 Triathalon – the best mouse for iPad and multiple devices

Compatibility is key to the Logitech M720 Triathlon. It can work with many different devices and operating systems besides the iPad, making it a one-stop solution for your home office. The iPad Mouse supports Bluetooth and a universal USB receiver, and the adapter is conveniently stored inside the mouse when not in use.

For its mid-range price point, the M720 Triathlon has some great features that make it a real bargain. One of these features is Logitech Flow technology, which allows you to merge and then smoothly move the cursor across three different device screens. This can be very handy if you have an iPad set up as a secondary screen for your laptop or desktop. The iPad mouse is powered by an AA battery. And while the ability to recharge is preferable, the M720 Triathlon lives up to its name and lasts two full years before the battery needs to be replaced.

Pros

  • Supports simultaneous connections.
  • Integrated USB stick.

Cons

  • Not rechargeable.

6. Apple Magic Mouse 2 is the best minimalist iPad mouse of 2020

If you have multiple Apple devices, you know how everything works seamlessly within the Apple ecosystem. The same goes for the iPad and Apple Magic Mouse 2. It connects to the tablet via Bluetooth and has the same clean look and feel as the Apple brand. The multi-touch surface lets you effortlessly swipe and scroll anywhere on the front of the device. And despite the sleek look, it still has right-click and left-click functionality. That being said, pretty much everything that the Magic Mouse 2 does is covered here. The iPad mouse looks nice, but costs a little more due to the simple functionality. It can be charged via a USB-C port and lasts up to 70 days on a single charge. One minute charge provides up to 3 hours of use.

Pros

  • Full iPad integration.
  • Multi-touch design.

Cons

  • Not very ergonomic.
  • Dear.

7. Logitech MX Vertical is the Best Ergonomic iPad Mouse of 2020

If you suffer from pain in your hand and wrist, or notice that your muscles get tired after a long time at the computer, then it is worth exploring some ergonomic mouse designs that may be more comfortable. The Logitech MX Vertical has the same controls as a regular mouse, but it reorients the hand to a position that takes pressure off the wrist, reduces muscle tension, and drastically reduces the amount of hand movement when using the mouse. The iPad mouse looks weird – and the somewhat bulky design means it’s not very portable – but people love the feel of it. This Bluetooth mouse is also equipped with Logitech Flow technology, which allows you to connect up to three devices at the same time and use the cursor seamlessly on all three screens.

The Logitech MX Vertical iPad Mouse measures 5″ x 4″ x 4″. Like many ergonomic mice, it is designed for the “average” hand. If standard mice don’t fit your hands, you should check out the reviews before you buy – the MX Vertical shape means your fingers need to align with the controls to be comfortable.

Pros

  • Reduces pressure on the wrist.
  • Fast recharge.

Cons

  • Bulky.
  • Not suitable for very small or very large hands.

8. Microsoft Arc ELG-00001 – Best Designed iPad Mouse

Microsoft has brought some creativity to the wireless mouse market with the Arc. This hyper-minimalist design starts out flat when it’s off and then curves when it’s on. The iPad Mouse weighs less than 85 grams and is only 1.4 cm thick, making it the perfect travel mouse. It’s so thin you’ll probably fit it in the same pocket as your iPad. The entire front of the mouse is a scroll plane, so you can swipe up and down the surface like you would on a laptop trackpad.

The iPad Mouse is compatible with Bluetooth 4.0 only. It uses three AAA batteries and lasts about six months at a time. If you like to coordinate your device’s accessories, you’re in luck: Arc is available in eight colors, including fancy colors like burgundy, lilac, and sage.

Pros

  • Very portable.
  • Looks great.

Cons

  • Very basic functionality.
  • Not rechargeable.

How to choose the best mouse for iPad in 2020?

Wireless connection . Most Bluetooth mice connect to modern iPads with relative ease, but since most iPads don’t have a USB port, connecting a mouse via a USB receiver can be a little tricky. If you want to connect a wired USB mouse or a wireless mouse with a USB dongle, you will need a Lightning-to-USB adapter.

Comfort and grip style . Are you right handed or left handed? Do you prefer a mouse with a claw grip, palm grip, or top grip? Make sure the mouse you choose will be comfortable, especially if you plan to use it for a long time or on multiple devices. Because you’re likely to take your iPad mouse on the road, you may want a smaller, lighter mouse that fits easily in your bag.

Settings . Do you want a mouse with programmable buttons? Maybe you want to be able to switch between continuous? Check out the customization options that the mouse offers, the accompanying mouse software, and make sure it’s compatible with your device.

Output

The Logitech MX Master 3 is a Bluetooth iPad mouse that offers an ergonomic design as well as customizable gesture profiles for different applications. The Logitech MX Anywhere 2S iPad Mouse is a cheaper alternative that offers many of the same features, including simultaneous synchronization and tracking of all kinds of surfaces.

The use of accessories such as keyboards and mice on the iPad are features that make working with these devices more and more similar to what we have with a computer. Although the use is ultimately different and we also get other features thanks to the touch screen or other accessories like the iOS Pencil, the truth is that they are still almost indispensable for many users. And if you didn’t know about this feature, you can discover it now as we will tell you how to connect any mouse to iPad and the requirements for it.

What is adultery

Unfortunately, not all versions of iOS/iPadOS support this feature, and not all devices. This feature was added in iPadOS 13.4 so it is present in those versions later. However, in versions 13 to 13.3.1, the feature is also enabled in the accessibility settings, although it doesn’t actually provide the same experience as the later one.

So if you have a device that is compatible with 13.3.1, you will also have it with 13.4 and even beyond, such as iPadOS 14. And which devices can at least have this software version? We show them to you in this list:

  • iPad (5th generation)
  • iPad (6th generation)
  • iPad (7th generation)
  • iPad mini 4
  • iPad mini (5th generation)
  • iPad Air 2
  • 90 005 iPad Air (3rd generation)

  • iPad Pro (all existing models)

Use a Wired or Dedicated Mouse

This is probably the easiest way to connect a mouse to your iPad. It’s true that it’s strange to continue using wired mice at this point, but they’re still on the market, and even if you have one at home, it can be very useful for tablet work. Even though there are already very low latency wireless devices, in the end, wired devices are still one of the best times, so this can be an important advantage. In any case, the connection method is very simple as you only need plug it into Lightning or USB-C of your iPad for which you may need USB adapter for these connections. Here below we leave you with the two most recommended for these cases.

There are also some wireless mice that don’t go via Bluetooth but work via a nano receiver that needs to be connected to the iPad. For this, the process is identical to wired, since this receiver will also require an adapter. Once the mouse is connected and turned on, it can be used normally.

Connect a Bluetooth mouse to iPad

When connecting a mouse via bluetooth, we did not find any difficulties, because it is connected in the same way as any other accessory that works with this type of technology. First of all, you must make sure that the mouse has batteries or batteries, that it is turned on, and that if it has a Bluetooth connection button, it will activate. After confirming this, follow these steps:

  • Go to iPad Settings .
  • Go to Bluetooth.
  • Activate Bluetooth if not already activated.
  • Find the name of the mouse and click on it to link it to .

Ready. Once you’ve done this, you’ll be connected and able to use the iPad pointer comfortably. You just need to make sure Bluetooth is enabled at all times. It’s entirely possible that if you turn off your iPad while it’s on, it won’t be connected and you’ll have to follow these steps again, although in most cases the connection remains persistent.

Install the Magic Mouse

Although the way to connect the Magic Mouse to the iPad is the same, since it’s via Bluetooth, the way it’s set up really changes a lot.

It’s easy to see why microwave drawers are so popular! They are the ultimate in form and function, taking the kitchen design world by storm as soon as they hit the market.

When we were designing our new kitchen, I knew right away that I wanted an under counter microwave in our island. It was the most visually unobtrusive option, and you all know that I love a clean, minimalist kitchen.

Types of Microwaves

There are three main types of microwaves: countertop, over-oven (aka built-in), and under-counter (aka microwave drawer). Here’s a bit more about each one.

  • Countertop Microwaves – The first models to hit the market, countertop microwaves get the job done and they’re usually the most inexpensive. However, they take up valuable real estate in the kitchen. Countertop space is at a premium, whether it’s a workspace or just to keep it visually open. Find my favorite tips for how to eliminate kitchen counter clutter here.
  • Over the Oven Microwaves – Over the range microwaves are typically mounted to the wall and installed between two cabinets. Generally speaking, you purchase a size that is as close as possible to the space you have to fill, and it comes with filler pieces to make up the difference. This type of microwave requires some type of ventilation system.
  • Microwave Drawers – If you want the microwave in island look, you’ll need to purchase a microwave drawer. A drawer microwave fits under the counter in a lower cabinet. They allow countertops to stay uncluttered, while also creating a more seamless aesthetic overall.

Where to Install Under Counter Microwave

Microwave drawers are especially popular in kitchen islands, because it’s such a central, convenient location for use. However, they can be installed under any countertop or in any wall cabinet. They can go against a corner or next to a wall – basically anywhere a wall oven can be installed.

Some homeowners like to stack their microwave drawer just under a wall oven, so all of their cooking appliances are together in one place. There isn’t a right or wrong way to do it.

One other thing to consider is that microwave drawers can be installed flush with the cabinet face for a more seamless look or installed proud, which means protruding slightly in front of the cabinets. How you choose to do it depends on your personal preference.

How Does an Under Counter Microwave Work?

Microwave drawers are extremely user friendly. When you’re ready to use it, simply open it with the touch of a button. The drawer will slide out, rather than swing on a hinge like traditional microwaves.

Lower your food inside the tray, then select your desired settings on the control panel. Close the drawer with another touch of a button. That’s it! Keep reading for some of the pros and cons.

Microwave in Island Sizes

Regardless of the brand, there are currently two sizes available for the exterior of the drawer, but the interior size is the same.

Outside width: 24″ or 30″ (24″ is the most popular size)

Interior measurements (same for 24″ and 30″ models): 17 5/16” W x 7 1/8” H x 16 9/16” D (1.2 cu. ft)

Microwave in Island Pros and Cons

Personally, I don’t think there is much to not love about having a drawer-style microwave. But I’ll let you decide for yourselves. Here’s a list of some of the pros and cons of under counter microwaves:

Pros of Microwave Drawers

  • Additional countertop space – Like an over the oven microwave, a microwave drawer leaves your countertops clear for workspace, decor items, or just to be visually open.
  • Space for an oven hood – Custom oven hoods are trending right now, and you can’t exactly have one with a microwave over your oven. A microwave drawer allows you to install an oven hood that can be a statement piece in your kitchen.
  • Improved accessibility – These open out instead of swinging on a hinge. This is good news for anyone who is left-handed or who may have trouble lifting heavy dishes above chest height. With a lower microwave, they can easily lower dishes in and lift them out.
  • Easy to clean – Not only are these microwaves easier to reach, but without a turntable they don’t have any nooks and crannies. They have only easy-to-clean flat surfaces.
  • Design is modern – Most models have a sleek design that fits well into a modern aesthetic. However, it looks right at home in a more classic style like mine, because it makes the space look updated and fresh. For another example, look at this Modern Kitchen in an Old House that I toured – it’s amazing!
  • Safety features – Some parents are concerned about having a microwave that is low enough for their children to reach. There’s no need to worry! Under counter microwaves have a feature that allows adults to lock the control panel. It can be set as the default, so you can rest assured your children can’t use it without you present.
  • Large capacity – You don’t have to compromise on space. The interior can fit a 4-qt casserole dish, which I find is plenty of space.
  • Cook as you go – You can easily add seasoning or stir without removing your food from the microwave. Just open the drawer, stir your food, and close again. It’s that simple!

Cons of Microwave Drawers

  • No convection – Convection cooking occurs through circulating hot air throughout the appliance. Currently, this can’t be done in any microwave drawer due to lack of ventilation. This means no broiling or baking like you can in a regular oven.
  • No turntable – Microwave drawers have newer technology that doesn’t use turntables to heat food. That’s only a con if you’re really set on the old way of doing things.
  • Same heating capabilities as other microwaves – They do a good job, but they aren’t going to work miracles on frozen food.
  • Limited sizes – Only 24″ and 30″ widths are currently available, and the interior sizes are all the same across brands.
  • Installation – Installing a microwave in your island is a bit more complicated than plugging one into your wall. If you’re not really familiar with what you’re doing, I recommend hiring a professional electrician to do the job.
  • Cost – Traditional microwaves cost between $100 – $500. You will pay more to get the premium design and features of a microwave drawer in your island. An under counter microwave drawer typically costs about $1,000 but can cost up to $1,800, not including installation.

Our under counter drawer microwave.

Why Are Microwave Drawers Expensive?

There’s no way around it. If you want the microwave drawer look and function, you’re going to pay more for it.

The main reason is because the technology belongs to SHARP, which means they make all of the microwave drawers and can charge as much as they want for them. Also, these are the only microwaves that don’t rely on turntables to heat food, so the parts are unique. Unique equals more expensive. And finally, the parts are high-quality and up-to-date, which means they will cost more.

Other companies, like Bosch, GE, and KitchenAid, buy the base microwave from SHARP at a high price, then add extra parts to it to make it their own. Technically, they could add cheap parts to try to save a few dollars, but what’s the point? If they’re already spending $900 on a base microwave, it makes sense to add high-quality parts.

This is why microwave drawers are at their current pricepoint, and it’s why they aren’t likely to drop any time soon.

Is a Under Counter Microwave Worth It?

The answer to this question is entirely up to you. I obviously decided that for me, the answer was yes!

You can read all about how we designed our kitchen, specifically how we decided where to compromise and where to splurge in this post – Classic Kitchen: Give and Take. I hope it will give you some inspiration for your own spaces.

If cost is your only consideration, there are definitely more affordable options in microwaves. However, if you’re considering the form, function, and premium features of a microwave drawer, the higher cost may be worth it to you. Only you can decide that.

For some people, other factors are more important than the cost. Maybe they love the sleek, uncluttered look of having a microwave in their island. Or perhaps they have a condition, such as arthritis, that makes it difficult to lift dishes into an over-oven microwave. Improved accessibility is a big reason many people choose to go with under counter microwaves.

One thing to consider is that sometimes brands will run deals that offer free microwave drawers when you purchase their appliance package. That could be a big savings if you’re in the market for new appliances.

Think of what is important to you, then decide if the extra cost is worth it to you. If your answer is yes, maybe it would mean a few extra months of saving. That’s worth it for years of enjoying what you want, right?

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you put a microwave in an island?

The answer is, it depends. You can’t put a regular counter microwave in an island, because it doesn’t have the right ventilation. The best way to have a microwave in island is to purchase a microwave drawer and have it professionally installed.

It is designed to be built in to a cabinet. Technically, you can put an over-oven microwave in an island IF the ventilation comes out the top front. You’d need to build a base for it to sit on, add brackets for it to rest on, and make sure it is ventilating properly. Do NOT put it behind a closed door.

Why do people put microwave in island?

Many people love the modern, sleek design of having a microwave in their island. It leaves the view of their kitchen more unobstructed. For others, they love the improved accessibility it offers.

Simply put, a microwave in the island is a lot easier to reach and clean. It’s easier and saver for people who may struggle to lift heavy dishes up an over-oven microwave. For many people, the higher price tag is worth it.

What kind of microwave goes in an island?

It’s called a microwave drawer or an under counter microwave. Almost all major brands make their own model, but most of the controls and features are similar across brands.

The major differences from regular microwaves are that it slides open like a drawer, rather than swinging on a hinge, and that it doesn’t use a turntable to heat food.

How do drawer microwaves vent?

Microwave drawers are self-contained united, meaning that they have ventilation systems built in and no additional ventilation systems are necessary.

Benefits of a Microwave Drawer

It might be a while before the faithful countertop microwave gets replaced, but microwave drawers come with several advantages that make the transition worth it. These are some we like:

Gives back countertop space

Provides easy access for everyone

Child lock safety features are included

No turntable means fewer parts to clean

Removing the turntable also makes it easier to fit dishes of various sizes

There is no handle, so installation is easier

How We Chose Our Top Microwave Drawers

What goes into a reliable microwave drawer? For us, these matter the most:

Microwave Power

How much watt power does a microwave need? If you want to cook meals quickly, anywhere between 900–1000 watts will do the job. Any less and food will need to cook longer, which wastes time and affects the texture of the food. Each model in our lineup passes the test with 950 watts of power.

Design

A big part of upgrading to a microwave drawer is to achieve a streamlined kitchen. The best microwave drawers used vivid digital controls and wide windows for an easy look inside. Additionally, we preferred the experience of a handless design over models with a handle.

FAQs

Do you need a special cabinet for a drawer microwave?

Luckily, no special cabinetry is needed to install a drawer-style microwave. Just make sure the cabinet where your new unit will go measures 24, 27, or 30 inches, depending on the size of the model.

How do you install a microwave drawer?

Like most built-in appliances, it’s best to contact professional installation near you to install your new microwave drawer. Before calling, make sure to consider the microwave drawer dimensions of the model you select, keeping in mind if you want a flush or “proud” presentation. While a flush install sits completely even with cabinetry, the proud fit protrudes slightly.

How do you use a microwave drawer?

Using a pull-out microwave drawer is just as simple as a regular microwave. Most models have a one-touch open and close feature. Once opened, pop food in, select the cook setting, and enjoy!

What sizes are built-in microwave ovens

Premium built-in appliances combine high functionality with the ability to optimally fit the device into the interior of the kitchen and save space. Built-in microwave ovens have long allowed not only to heat up food, but also to cook chicken or meat with a golden crust, bake a pie or a cupcake.

A microwave oven is not a very large unit; it is successfully built into a cabinet of a kitchen set, into a hanging cabinet, into a niche. The modern production of microwave ovens focuses specifically on built-in models – their choice is very large.

In addition to the usual solo ovens that cook using microwaves, the Hausdorf online store presents devices with a grill, convection, a pizza baking function and quick defrosting of products. We offer customers models with electronic and mechanical control systems, in modern and classic style, in a variety of colors, with bronze, steel, brass finishes. The design of built-in models does not have legs for height adjustment, and the facade can be decorative or open.

What are the sizes of built-in microwave ovens

What are the sizes of built-in microwave ovens

What are the sizes of built-in microwave ovens

Manufacturers choose the standard dimensions of the built-in microwave based on the dimensions of the kitchen furniture.

Width of built-in microwave ovens

  • The minimum width is 48 cm. Narrow models are very rare.
  • Standard width is 58-60cm according to kitchen cabinet or column width. For example, the built-in model Bosch BFL 520 MS0 with a volume of 20 liters and a width of 60 cm is in demand.
  • Wide built-in devices for the home (over 60 cm) are also available in a limited range. For example, the 76 cm wide Wolf ICCBMDD30PM/S/PH with a hinged door can be considered a semi-professional model.

Height of built-in microwave ovens

  • The standard height is between 30 and 40 cm, but ovens less than 35 cm high are rare. One of the lowest Neff C17WR00N0 is 38 cm.
  • Tall models – 40 cm or more. Furnaces above 50 cm are also very rare. For example, Kaiser EH 6319 at 49 cm is one of the tallest in our store.

Depth built-in microwave ovens

  • Minimum depth – 30-31 cm. Shallow microwaves have a small volume up to 20 liters. Miele M6030SC EDST/CLST with a depth of 31 cm has a volume of 17 liters.
  • Standard models up to 55 cm deep are the most common. Most often you can see a microwave oven with a depth of 38-40 cm.
  • Deep models – large volume devices, up to 60-65 cm. Smeg SF4800MPO with a depth of 56 cm has a volume of 40 liters.

Embedding parameters: niche and cabinet dimensions

You can place the microwave at any height, but the optimal position is not lower than the level of the countertop (82-85 cm) and not higher than eye level – this parameter is selected individually, taking into account the height of the user.

If the oven, especially the multifunctional one, is located at the level of the face, it should be opened carefully to avoid burns from hot steam. It is recommended to avoid the proximity of the microwave oven to the sink and hob, as well as to the heating radiator.

Each product presented in the store is accompanied by instructions and an embedding diagram with dimensions, and for most models, dimensions are given for embedding both in a cabinet and in a niche.

For example, for a Smeg SF4102MB microwave oven, the width of the niche should exceed the width of the device by 4-10 cm, the height by 3-5 cm, and the depth by 12 cm. The same ratios are observed when installing the product in a cabinet or column. As a rule, a place for a microwave oven is selected at the stage of designing a kitchen.

Standard dimensions for built-in microwave ovens

Contents:

1. Standard dimensions for built-in microwave ovens
2. Cabinet parameters
3. Built-in niche dimensions

Built-in microwave ovens with grill function will help diversify your menu, cook tasty and healthy food. They can be built into a column with other kitchen appliances – dish warmers, ovens, coffee machines, thereby saving space in small kitchens. The only unacceptable combination is with a dishwasher, the latter may fail.

Kitchen cabinets are produced in standard sizes, so it is important to know the parameters below. After all, in case of an error, you will have to redo it or order it according to the parameters of the purchased equipment.

The standard parameters of built-in microwave ovens are as follows:

small Medium Large
Width (cm) 45-55 55-60 60
Depth (cm) thirty 45-55 55-60
Height (cm) thirty 40-45 45

Compact models can have a volume of up to 20-25 liters. They have a small set of functions, low power, which, on the one hand, will not create a load on the old wiring, and on the other hand, will limit the possibilities.

Averages are already designed for more decent batches of food.

‎Ooma Home Phone on the App Store

Description

As a companion to Ooma’s award winning home phone service, this app lets you make calls from your Ooma phone number, receive calls when you’re away from home, check your Ooma voicemail, and more. Purchase the beautiful Ooma Telo at your favorite retailer or at Ooma.com.

Getting started with the app:

1. Login with your Ooma phone number and password. Please note that the app works with the primary number on your Ooma account, not additional numbers. If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it by visiting My Ooma.

2. Make unlimited domestic calls without using your cellular plan minutes. The Ooma application makes calls using the Internet, also known as Voice Over IP (VoIP). Make sure that you have a strong Internet connection, either Wi-Fi or 3G/4G, to ensure the highest voice quality.

3. Make international calls for low rates. Visit My Ooma to purchase international calling credits or to sign up for the Ooma World calling plan which includes unlimited calls to more than 60 countries.

4. Dial numbers in your iPhone’s contact list or set up a list of Favorites for quick access from the Ooma app.

5. Get alerts for new voicemail and listen to them conveniently on your phone. You can delete messages or file them into folders, all from the app.

The Ooma app requires iOS 7.0 and higher.

Be aware that some mobile network operators prohibit or restrict the use of VoIP over their network or impose additional fees and/or charges when using VoIP over their network. By using Ooma Mobile over 3G/4G/LTE, you agree to familiarize yourself with and abide by any restrictions your cellular carrier imposes and agree that Ooma will not be held liable for any charges, fees or liability imposed by your carrier for using Ooma Mobile over their 3G/4G/LTE network.

Recent Update Falls Short

I’ve been waiting for Ooma to add the ability to blacklist numbers from the app since I started using it and am very happy that the function is finally here. But what makes me rate this ones start short of great, is the fact that once you add number to the blacklist, there’s no way to remember — say days or a week later — if you blacklisted that number. Where as on the website when you blacklist a number there is a visual cue (a red circle with a line through it) that let’s you know that you have successfully added that number to the blacklist.

Currently, when you go back to look at at number you may have blacklisted the day before, it still says “Add to Blacklist” as if you never took any action on that number. And if you tap that link, it takes you through the process as if you didn’t blacklist it. That made me have go to the website just to double check that it the blacklist was actually applied — which renders the efficiency and convenience of the new feature moot. It can be something like turning the “Add to Blacklist” red or replacing that with the red circle with the line through it (like on the website) to let you know that you were sucessful in blacklisting a number.

Hello iPhonoclast, thank you for letting us know. We will work on improving the process for what you mentioned.

Love this!

after years of having Ooma as my main phone line, I love that now I can finally get calls on my cell phone. I live in Australia but have a US phone number and it makes it so easy for me to contact friends and family overseas for very little cost. I appreciate not having to be home to call the states. It has really added a new element to the convenience to it. The app probably isn’t very helpful if you don’t have a paid in my account however, in my case I do.

I am having 2 issues though, I live in Australia but I have a US phone number through Ooma and even though I put my phone on do not disturb when I go to sleep at night the Ooma calls still come through loud and clear waking me up at night, need to figure out a way to change those settings.

The other thing that is problematic, when I’m on my cell phone app and I arrive home, call disconnects. So that’s a bit of a bummer sometimes, but overall I love that I can call with Emma from my cell phone now! especially for our situation. For most people though I don’t know how useful it would be.

Over 10 years

I have been a customer for over 10 years and now I am having thoughts of dropping my service. The app has fallen short of being useful anymore. It errors constantly, doesn’t forward many calls and if you decide to reinstall it forces you to sign up for their premier service without any ability to bypass and just log into your account.
Customer service has been useless and they send me to their technical service, but you cannot understand them and all they want you to do is reinstall again.
I believe that the forcing you to sign up for the premier service each time you install is a violation of some type of law and I plan on writing letters to several organizations so that future customers are not dinged with their horrible tactics.
The app has not even been updated decently for a long time. They just fixed it enough to work on the current iOS, but no fixing the large bugs that are in the app. Being a VOIP they could offer texting, but they refuse to add it in.
So even though it has saved me lots of money over a standard phone line, I am going to use other portable numbers more often and maybe just quit using this service.

Phone – Chukovsky. Full text of the poem – Phone

My phone rang.
– Who’s talking?
– Elephant.
— From where?
– From a camel.
– What do you need?
– Chocolate.
– For whom?
– For my son.
– Is there a lot to send?
– Yes, five pounds that way
Or six:
He won’t eat anymore,
He’s still small with me!

And then he called
Crocodile
And asked with tears:
– My dear, good,
Send me galoshes,
And me, and my wife, and Totosha.

– Wait, don’t you
Last week
I sent two pairs of
Great galoshes?
– Oh, those that you sent
Last week,
We have already eaten
for a long time And we are waiting, we can’t wait,
When will you send
again To our dinner
A dozen
New and sweet galoshes!

And then the hares called:
– Can you send gloves?

And then the monkeys called:
– Send me some books, please!

And then the bear called
Yes, as soon as it started, as it began to roar.

– Wait, bear, don’t roar,
Explain what you want?

But he only “mu” and “mu”,
Why, why –
I don’t understand!
– Please hang up the phone!

And then the herons called:
– Please send some drops:
We’ve overate on frogs today,
And our stomachs are hurting!

And then the pig called:
— Could you send a nightingale?
We are together today
With the nightingale
A wonderful song
Let’s sing.
– No, no! Nightingale
Doesn’t sing for pigs!
You’d better call a crow!

And the bear again:
– Oh, save the walrus!
Yesterday he swallowed a sea urchin!

And such rubbish!
Either a seal calls, or a deer.

And recently, two gazelles
Called and sang:
– Really
Really
All burned down
Roundabouts?

— Oh, are you crazy, gazelles?
The carousel did not burn down,
And the swing survived!
You, gazelles, didn’t rumble,
And next week
You would jump up and sit down
On a swing-carousel!

But they didn’t listen to the gazelles
And they were still noisy:
– Is it really
Really
All the swings
Burned out?
What stupid gazelles!

And yesterday morning
Kangaroo:
– Isn’t this the apartment of
Moidodyr? –
I was angry, and how I would scream:
– No! This is a different apartment!
– Where is Moidodyr?
– I can’t tell you. ..
Call
One hundred and twenty-five.

I haven’t slept for three nights,
I’m tired.
I would like to fall asleep,
Rest…
But as soon as I lay down –
Call!
– Who’s talking?
– Rhino.
– What is it?
– Trouble! Trouble!
Hurry up here!
– What’s the matter?
– Save!
– Whom?
– Behemoth!
Our hippo fell into the swamp…
– Fell into the swamp?
– Yes!
Neither here nor there!
Oh, if you don’t come –
He will drown, drown in the swamp,
Will die, disappear
Behemoth!!!

– OK! I’m running! I’m running!
If I can, I will help!

Oh, this is not an easy job –
To drag a hippopotamus out of the swamp!
